Anti-Clues

hiya hiya hiya
I wish I could tell you who will be playing Maester Luwin, Grand Maester Pycelle, the Hound, Ser Rodrik, Khal Drogo, Magister Illyrio, Gared, Will, Ser Waymar Royce, and Cersei Lannister... but those parts have not been cast yet, to the best of my knowledge.

A number of other parts have not been cast yet either. That list is by no means exhaustive.

We do have some great contenders, though, and of course I have my own favorites. A few of these might be filled by the end of the day tomorrow. Or not.

At this writing, the secret seven is still the secret seven.

I love you so much right now, even though the suspense is killing me. I hope your day is as bright and shiny as mine is, now that I have something new to riddle out . . .

you are enjoying this waaaaaaayyyy too much. Still, when you can write well, you can get away with these things. I wonder if Fitzgerald or Hemingway ever sat around over beers and said "Oh yea, well guess whose going to be in the movie version of MY book...."

Even though he doesn't appear until what I guess would be theoretical season 3, I kinda want to see Hugh Laurie as Qyburn.

Illyrio
I bet Magister Illyrio gets cast as the guy from Rome who proclaims the news in the streets each day.

COLIN FARRELL
Unlike BONEY M singer Bobby Farrell, our Jaime is COLIN FARRELL who played on stage in a wartime play with IAIN GLEN who is Ser Jorah.
Basta.

I don't think Colin Farrell makes a very convincing blond.

Ooh so Cersei hasn't been cast yet? Good to know that.

Oh man, time goes by so slowly trying to figure out your clues, surfing the web, theorizing with others and listening to Take that - patience.

I would imagine The Hound would be a hard part to cast...

Actually, we've seen a number of actors who would be great as the Hound. Speaking purely for myself, I think the hardest role to fill is Bran.

Hodor is going to be hard as well. We need to find a really big, strong actor who can convey a huge range of reactions and emotions entirely with his face, his eyes, and spoken variations of a single word. Like asking a guitarist to play a tune with only one string.

...and here I thought getting an actress to agree to play a character that requires her to expose one breast in nearly every scene was going to be the hardest...go figure.

So, basically, you need the new Zeppo Marx for Hodor?

That's funny...
Didn't you also say he was one of the hardest to write? Or was it that he was one of your least favorite to write? Either way, I'm glad you did, because behind Tyrion, Bran's is probably my favorite storyline. Keep up the amazing work, and thanks for the sneaky hints/anti-hints!

The Hound
When reading the books, whenever the Hound was mentioned, I pictured Michael Byrne(I). I think that began after I'd seen Braveheart for the 1000th time and after reading A Game of Thrones. He may be too old for it now, but I always thought he'd be great for that role. I hope whoever they do pick can take over the role, so that I no longer picture Mr. Byrne when I read about him. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0126250/

Ah, thank you. This helps us narrow down the choices. Most of us were for the Banks-as-Cersei before realizing the clues wouldn't fit perfectly with the rest of the cast. In the end, we ended up dumping the Boney M/Banks connection. So the adult female is someone else then... Since some of the older children aged up, including Dany, I guess we can assume it's her? Well, It's either her or Septa Mordane, who doesn't seem big enough to warrant a clue like Dany would.

I always pictured Michael Ironsides for the Hound. Not sure why, other than he's an awesome actor and it's a great character.

Bon(e)y Moronie
"Hodor is going to be hard as well. We need to find a really big, strong actor who can convey a huge range of reactions and emotions entirely with his face, his eyes, and spoken variations of a single word. Like asking a guitarist to play a tune with only one string."

Hey, I've seen Jack White play a single string guitar very impressively - does that qualify him to play Hodor? (I think I'm just confused.)

Okay, I haven't put it all together yet, but I think the "not a boney pop singer" thing has something to do with the classic rock'n'roll song "Bony Moronie," originally by Larry Williams, but covered countless times by other artists (using variations on the spelling that often include "boney" - everyone from Ricky Martin to John Lennon and Richie Valens.

How this relates to an actor? I don't know. Maybe it's an actor with the same name as one of the people who recorded a version of the song? Just a guess.

Duane "The Rock" Johnson? I'm kind of at a loss to think of actors who are sufficiently young, dark, and physically imposing.

Lol. When I read about Drogo for the first time I actually pictured him as "The Rock". A girls fantasy?

I'm entirely incapable of seeing anyone other than the Tom Berenger character in PLATOON (with prosthetic scarface makeup etc) in the role of The Hound, but obviously as that was over 20 years ago, that particular ship may have sailed, as it were...

series and books
I will enjoy the HBO series as well as the books. I imagine that some places and some characters are very difficult to write, but each has their own logic. Some of the places outside Westeros take a very different approach, which is why, in stories cast in the Middle Ages, the more "civilized" places overseas can be daunting. For example, just now Elizabeth Moon is writing sequels to her Paksenarrion series, about the old civilization over the seas; she wrote the first books starting in 1988, and did not develop the overseas plot then. Older civilizations need entire sets of laws and customs, and these can run counter to everything else, but somehow must be incorporated. So, I am content to wait for your series to go into production to learn names of actors, etc. I'm just glad it's happening, and best wishes for your writing as well.
