As Theon Greyjoy...

... we have Alfie Allen.

I knew absolutely nothing about Alfie when this process began, except that he had done some kickass readings for us. His audtion for Theon was particularly strong, especially the scene where Theon returns to Pyke to confront his father Balon (no, that won't be in the pilot, but it was a great scene to use in the sides).

After he was cast, of course, I went to learn more about him on the internet, and discovered all sorts of interesting things. Like the fact that he replaced Daniel Radcliffe as the lead in the West End production of EQUUS, which became one clue -- he has something in common with Harry Potter. Also, he's the young brother of the British pop star Lily Allen. One of her first hits starred Alfie -- being played by a puppet:

(Sorry, embedding is disabled on that one, but check it out. I confess, I am not exactly an authority on today's music, and I had never heard of Lily Allen before Alfie was cast. But in the past couple of weeks I have become a huge fan of her music, especially "Alfie" and "Not Fair." Be warned, though, her songs have plenty of explicit lyrics).

Lily Allen is really notorious over here for her explicit lyrics', but many like her songs. She is a singer from a new era.

When I first read the rumors that Alfie could've been cast as Theon I didn't really know what to think of it and he wasn't my favorite by looks.

I have full confidence in the casting directors and those who make the final picks, and seeing as Alfie has been in EQUUS he surely has good acting skills.

Damn. No one would ever believe that guy as my little brother! :(

Not how I pictured Theon, but I think this can get really interesting! I'm sure he'll be great.

And congratulations on becoming a Lily Allen fan..! :)

I know him more as son of Keith Allen, when he was a comedian rather than a sheriff. This instills more confidence than as a brother of Lily Allen.

Hah, I knew it was him!

That's exactly how I pictured...Reek. He kinda has 'the Innsmouth Look' like his sister.

I love Lilly Allen.

I think he'll make a great Theon! I loved Flashbacks of a Fool, but don't specifically remember his character in it. Something just about this photo makes me very able to 'see' him as Theon (despite others' comments).

So reassuring that you are involved in the casting process and that they are doing such a wonderful job of mixing up the cast with actors that are well-known, little known, and completely unknown. I'm really looking forward to watching all the various group dynamics with the characters.

From my point of view, the perfect Theon would have been Richard Madden. That's exactly how I pictured him. Imagining Allen to be Theon is quite hard. Can't see any Theon-like crooked smile either. Sorry, but for me, this actor is a huge letdown.

Possible Tywin
Seems like I haven't seen mention of Lily and Alfie's actor father - Keith Allen.

Keith played the Sheriff of Nottingham on the recent BBC's Robin Hood series and I think he'd be a good choice to play Tywin Lannister. He's a great actor, and can pull off the ambitious 'villain' quite well.

And he's already bald.

Just a thought.

I'm somewhat scarred now that I searched the internet and found all those naked picture of this guy. I hope I don't always 'picture him naked' every time he appears on screen! Ha! The only other thing I saw him in was Atonement...which is forgettable also.

I didn't have anything particular in mind for how I though Theon would look-- pretty much open to whatever. Seeing Alfie, though, I'm convinced this is a great direction to take the character visually. He's definitely attractive enough, but there's also this kinda underhanded, weasely look to him that makes him appear implicitly untrustworthy.

Perfect! Theon is sort of a trickster, joker and this guy seems to have that look.

Interesting choice.

I'm also suggesting it now:

Keith Allen as Balon Greyjoy

Would make a lot of sense :-)

He has a sister who has worked to an elite status and she is telling us that she pulls his weight. This is a crucial similarity to Theon Greyjoy.

I detect significance here. HBO may be casting peronalities that best fit. He should have no trouble acting the part as it will be very familiar.

I am just going by the pic, but this actor looks like he has the kind of cocky personality of Theon.

I think this is a wonderful choice for Theon! Always how I pictured him. :)
