Arya and Sansa, Revisited

Here, as promised, are some larger pictures of Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, who will be portraying Arya and Sansa Stark, respectively, in the HBO pilot.

Maisie, I am informed, has some previous acting credits. Stage work, I gather, nothing in television or film. Until now. Sorry, I have no further details.

Sophie is brand new, David and Dan tell me. Well, maybe some school plays. She read for us at her school. Don't confuse her with the DR. WHO Sophie Turner, please, or any of the other Sophie Turners that Google will turn up. (She should probably tweak her name to make it more distinctive. Maybe Sophie R.R. Turner. Worked for me)

Wow, just as I envisioned them!

This post has gotten so much attention! First, I must agree that Arya(my favorite character) looks PERFECT for the role. I have two favorites though- my other favorite is Jaime, who also looks perfect! I can't believe how well this is going for me!
Sophie looks similar to how I pictured Sansa- to all who disagree, remember, hair coloring and makeup can make unbelievable changes to a face. I also like that they are young and not famous; they will have as much flexibility as they will need to become these characters, and they will need a lot! And I also think, as someone said, that they could pass as sisters!
They will be great. And the rest of the cast looks pretty amazing too. I don't honestly think, if they see this through, that HBO can ever top this production.

So awesome that you guys are bringing up new talent and giving them a chance!
Aug. 25th, 2009 08:43 am (UTC)
the castings so far have been great.
my favo's are theon and arya. just exactly how I pictured them!

maybe a weird or noobish question, but as a euro -belgium- will I be able to watch this serie eventually too? :p

even on the internet you can get refused cause of where you live.(like the heroes episodes or the series of the sword of truth books). I'd be quite buggered if I couldn't watch it or if had to start doing stuff I shouldn't be doing :p

As a European fellow (from Italy), I think the only way for us to watch GoT could be if the seiries will be bought by any pay-tv or we have to wait for dvd sales.

Oh, Maisie looks very Arja-ish! Sophie is adorable and auburn hair should really work with those eyes.
Aug. 25th, 2009 09:32 am (UTC)
they look like excellent choices! delighted to see the cast growing, still excited abotu Jennifer Ehle as well.
Aug. 25th, 2009 10:03 am (UTC)
Oh, such pretty ones! great choice :)
Aug. 25th, 2009 10:24 am (UTC)
Such beautiful girls!

Sophie looks gorgeous already, I can't wait to see her with auburnred hair. She'll make a stunning Sansa.
Maisie looks mischievous already, her looks give away her tomboy attitude.

Very good
Love the girls. How wonderful, wonderful wonderful!

I hope there will be some more sexy hunks in the show (Khal Drogo for example), not for my own pleasure (that too), but to get some of the non-(yet)-fans into the boat.
As shallow as it may seems the "OMG he's SOOOO hot" factor should not be neglected...
You'll get the guys with the story and the violence but you'll get the women with sixpacks and longing stares and stuff.
NCW is not enough!
(I'm thinking along the lines of McSteamy and McDreamy...)

Yours truly,
the unconsulted marketing expert. :D

Re: Very good
Although you're probably right ... do you think the series really needs new fans with all of us obsessing over it a year or so before it hits the screen? :D
Aug. 25th, 2009 11:55 am (UTC)
Wow - I think they're prefect! Just how I had imagined them. Well done.

Arya and Sansa, Revisited
Arya looks just like I pictured her! Now if they'll only show a picture of her biting her lip... :) I can't wait to see her do some needlework.
Aug. 25th, 2009 01:07 pm (UTC)
Arya is positively awesome!
Aug. 25th, 2009 02:11 pm (UTC)
They certainly look like sisters don't they?
Aug. 25th, 2009 02:22 pm (UTC)
I've just got back from the country and found out all those great news about new actors all at once. So I haven't had to painfully wait near my PC while all the secrets become revealed. Mwa-ha-ha.

Also they finally published "A feast of crows" in my favourite "Golden series of Fantasy" edition here in Russia so I'm currently revisiting "The song of ice and fire" first three books before I move on to Feast. So I'm kind of in the world of "the song".

And I have to say - so far ALL the choices of actors look super! I'm specially excited about Tamzin Merchant as Dany - she's a terrific actress and Sean Bean as Ned - I got *really* impressed by him after his role as Odysseus in "Troy".

So I wish all HBO team good luck and I'll have to keep my fingers crossed all the way!
Aug. 25th, 2009 03:00 pm (UTC)
Ohh Maisie Williams as Arya is perfect!

Good choices. Maise does have that tomboy quality of Arya and Sophie has the girly girl quality of Sansa. But both girls have the intelligence in the eyes that I imagine in the books they would have inherited from Catelyn.
And I just realized something: J.R.R. Tolkien-George R R Martin. Coincidence?
Aug. 25th, 2009 04:15 pm (UTC)
How 'Bout
Sophie Tucker? That wouldn't be confusing.
Aug. 25th, 2009 04:53 pm (UTC)
Wow, the actress for Arya looks perfect. That's awesome, I'm really glad they got a good Arya by the look of her. I pictured Sansa a little more round-faced, but if she has no prior credits, she probably blew away the casting directors and that speaks for itself.

Right ON. Cannot wait for this :)

I am curious to get your take on this, though I'm sure you've been asked some number of times:

If the series gets picked up, and is successful, and operates on a "one book per season" schedule, as has been bandied about, do you think you would be able to finish the last 3 books within the next six years, in order to stay ahead of the series?

I ask partly because of the amount of effort and length of time you've spent working on Dance, but mainly because despite all of that effort, you did not, to my knowledge, have to busy yourself with the workings of an ongoing television show as well.

Unless I'm overestimating the amount of work you will have to personally spend on the show once it got picked up, that seems like a lot of demand for your time. :( How do you think you would handle that?
Aug. 25th, 2009 05:28 pm (UTC)
I find these two the closest to what I picture from the books out of all those cast so far for aGoT. Excellent choices.
Any word on who will play Bronn? He's my favourite non-POV character, and I haven't seen one mention of him in all these little updates. I feel his fight with Ser Vardis Egen was a huge part of aGoT, and I can't wait to see it on HBO.
Aug. 25th, 2009 07:24 pm (UTC)
Bronn is not in the first 8 chapters of the book, then he won't be in the pilot.
He will be cast only if season 1 will have green-lit, I think.
Aug. 25th, 2009 06:53 pm (UTC)
They both really have the look of the characters.
I think Maisie has the best role. I wish I was a child actor cause I'd want to be Arya too.
Sophie is going to do great too. I just have this feeling that I'm going to be more sympathetic towards Sansa with Sophie in the role than I did while reading her chapters. kudos to the casting peeps.

Aug. 25th, 2009 09:31 pm (UTC)
Im starting to think that not only do the HBO casting directors actually ready your books but they have the same imaginaiton as me! Or...youre such a good writer that everyone can see these charecters the same. They really are perfect in appearance and if they can act then that is just incredible.
Aug. 26th, 2009 02:40 am (UTC)
I'm still excited and pleased by the casting choices-even though I've never heard of any of them!

As an American, I swear we maybe have a few character actors who are kicking around our shores to fill out some older roles-but the brilliance (of the casting) is the oh you think you know what was happening-take a look at this!

Surprise! You have no clue :D

Ok-to be a jerk-please call Lance Henriksen's agent as the King of modern day dragonstone-gahhh-I will zip it now
