Arya and Sansa, Revisited

Here, as promised, are some larger pictures of Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, who will be portraying Arya and Sansa Stark, respectively, in the HBO pilot.

Maisie, I am informed, has some previous acting credits. Stage work, I gather, nothing in television or film. Until now. Sorry, I have no further details.

Sophie is brand new, David and Dan tell me. Well, maybe some school plays. She read for us at her school. Don't confuse her with the DR. WHO Sophie Turner, please, or any of the other Sophie Turners that Google will turn up. (She should probably tweak her name to make it more distinctive. Maybe Sophie R.R. Turner. Worked for me)

How to help the pilot?
So, aside from actually watching the pilot episode(s) is there any other way to have our voice heard and support the series? Some way to make sure HBO sees that there is an audience and a following? I'd love to see this project take off! HBO does such a fine job with their television series that its the perfect format to put your books onto film. Movies wouldn't give you enough time for the character development and different story lines to evolve enough... I may have missed any ideas previously posted - if you find out any ways to help push the pilot let us know!

Re: How to help the pilot?
Excellent question. Tell us what to do, oh Great Leader. :)

Re: How to help the pilot?
Thirding this question. There have been far too many series I've liked that have been dropped after the first season or two; it always feels like I'm being dumped with the line "I've had a lot of fun these past few months, but I'm just not ready for a relationship."

The girt playing Arya is smiling. Arya doesn't smile. lol Good choices.

Speaking of Arya's Needlework,
Valyrian Steel has designed Needle and LongClaw with GRRM's approval. Will those designs be found in the HBO series, or are the swords being redesigned from scratch along with all other props?

I'm sure they will both do great work in their new roles, especially considering the room they have to grow as characters in "Game of Thrones".

Just out of curiosity-did you add the RR as a nod to Tolkien?

I'm really delighted with all the positive reactions here ^^

So far, the casting choices are perfect. Maisie and Sophie look pretty much how I pictured Arya and Sansa, and the same goes for the rest of the cast. I'm especially excited for Mark Addy and Peter Dinklage (who was spectacular in Death at a Funeral). I think this HBO series will be good to hold me over until Dance comes out (I haven't given up hope!) as well as refresh me on any plot points/characters I may have forgotten. Here's an excited fanboy.

Hmmm. Sophie looks mighty familiar, so much so that I was a bit shocked to read that she doesn't have any roles under her belt. I will wait to see her with red hair, she's pretty enough without a Doubt, but I see her and think Daenerys.

Maisie is near perfect (at least in this picture) to my imaginary Arya. She seems to have the face that can look plain or stunning, and I think that's important to Arya.. mostly because Ned says she looks like Lyanna and Lyanna was beautifil.

I am so excited!

Woof, woof!
So it seems The Hound has been cast...

Time for some clues again, George?

Both perfect choices. The wait to watch this show is getting longer by the day!

thx for the info :)

Your 'statement of policy' post did not leave the option for comment, so I thought perhaps I would add one here :)

It's kind of off topic, but I've been wondering how you/the casting directer/the production as a whole were going to handle Brienne? Brienne is ugly, or supposed to be. Do you think HBO will pretty her up for sex interest? Or stay true to what I'm reading? (I'm only on Storm of Swords)

These are the kinds of small details that make or break a television series for me... The Tutors for instance, I liked the show well enough, but lost respect when the king was young and hot... he should have been much older, and fatter... maybe it's the typical audience member in our society can only see beauty as sex appeal. The honest truth is that as far as most attractive characters in your book go, my first choice is Tyrion Lanaster and my second is Brienne. I think their cores are so much more attractive then Jaimie's looks.

I'm so addicted to this amazing world you have created. Thank you! :)

Brienne doesn't enter the story until the second season. Her casting is not something we're thinking about just now.

I understand your concern, though. One only has to recall the film FRANKIE AND JOHNNY, where the part of the ugly coffee shop waitress was cast with Michelle Pfeiffer.

Pretty much perfect choices... Maisie looks just like I always pictured Arya. :)

Thanks for the photos! Girls are so cute :) And Maisie has something very Arya-like in her eyes (pardon my broken English).

Would it also be possible to get better picture of Jack Gleeson who is cast to play Joffrey?

What beautiful girls! They both look just perfect. Can't wait to see them perform! Congratulations, Sophie and Maisie!

Amazing Opportunity for these young women.
What an incredible way to enter into the Film/Television industry. As a professional actor, and absolute fantasy fanatic, I can think of no more exciting way to start off an acting career.

I'm sure these two will be awesome in their roles.

Now, I'm just going to sit back and be extremely jealous.

Why, Mr. Martin, why couldn't you have waited a few years for me to get well known enough to be involved in this project? *sigh*

I think the casting so far has been great
Especially Sansa, she looks perfect to me for the part (as do all the others, I can't wait for the show)!

I would like to volunteer my services to play Hodor, I can't act but I think my talents are equal to the task!

I think they look TOO MUCH alike, for sisters supposed to look completely different, LOL. Usually the opposite would be the problem, but these two look too much alike, for meXD
Anyway, I like Arya, though her face is rounder than I imagined, but Sansa is too plain, not the drop-dead-gorgeous girl I imagined (seeing as her beauty is the only thing constantly mentioned about her in the books). She may change with auburn hair, though

Astonishing cast
Even though hair color might not match we all know that's none of a problem, so Sophie makes a wonderful choice for Sansa.

But Maisie is just... wow! I cannot think of any known young actress that could fit the role as Maisie probably will. Her face's just perfect for Arya's role, so impish and audacious.... I'm simply astonished by this choice and I hope they keep that decision for the whole series

Arya looks the part..Sophie not so much. Sad =(

Casting two cents
First off I love the casting thus far. somewhere in here someone said Kevin Spacey as Little Finger, while Spacey is an excellent actor and would have no problem with the material I think he may be a bit too old and not thin enough; might I suggest Edward Norton or Ryan Gosling? For Varys= Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Tywin Lannister= Liam Neeson?

Arya has been my favorite character throughout, and it looks like you've cast her perfectly in Maisie Williams.
Oct. 13th, 2009 01:30 pm (UTC)
Arya seems a little smaller than i imagined her, but anyway im sure she'll do great playing arya
