Dancing

Spain
Taking another whack at the Meereenese knot today. I'm going to try breaking two largish chapters into four smallish ones, changing the order of events somewhat, and weaving them all together. Maybe that will work a little better.

Can it really be September?? Ack. I can feel the heat of those flames...

Thank You
Thank you for the update. Persoanlly, I'll take any bit of information you wish to pass along. It doesn't always have to be about a release date.

What a beautiful pic.
...if you can call that sort of thing beautiful. That guy is really amazing. (a sword like that could cut through a Meereenese knot fairly quickly...)

At Comic-Con George's editor indicated she thought the book was going to come in at about 1,200 manuscript pages, or a little bit shorter than A CLASH OF KINGS, but longer than A GAME OF THRONES.

Of course, what the final page count is I imagine depends on how much firepower it takes to break through the knot ;-)

knot
I think its a favorable sign that you are tackling the Meereenese Knot in the same way that Alexander attacked his Gordian Knot...chopping it into smaller pieces instead of trying to unravel it.

If it worked for Alexander it will work for you! Go George!

wrong hand?
i love the artwork. But isn't the Hound right-handed? now i will have to scour 5000-ish pages, or this will gnaw at me like a dog at a bone. guffaw!

When you kill a major character...
I started reading the Song of Fire and Ice after seeing a co-worker throw book three across the room and declare: "That's bullshit, that's completely bullshit." After which, he stormed out of the lunch room.

I figured any book that can elicit that kind of reaction from someone is worth a read, and I am pretty sure I know the exact moment in the third book that set him off. I set book three down myself for about a week after the alluded to incident.

I was wondering, since you are the author and conceivably have an even greater attachment to your characters than your readers do, are you ever depressed when you off one of them?

Re: When you kill a major character...
"That's bullshit, that's completely bullshit." Wahahahhahhahhha I can just see him now.

My wife nearly cried when she read that part (I think she would have if she'd been at home and not on the underground). When I read it if felt like I had just been told that a family member had died and wasn't sure if I wanted to carry on reading - but obviously I did.

Thanks for the News!
This strategy sounds hopeful, but even if it doesn't work out, then I'm glad to hear that you're still fighting the good fight. The devilish knot may be tough, but in the end you shall overcome! :)

Wow your fanbase never stops amazing me. All these people reading the blog on a daily basis, reading the forums, really sucking in every tiny detail about their favourite book series or its author.
I keep seeing the same names again and again. And even though the human lifespan is limited, but the books to read endless, we (cause I myself am at my third re-read at the moment) read the books again and again.
I'm really curious how this all will end. Everyone is, anyway. I just hope it won't be some dragon going bezerk and wiping Seven Kingdoms off the face of the planet. That would be sad.

I'm rereading A Song of Ice and Fire, I think this is Trip 3. Thank you for an absolutely killer series, thanks for these little updates, and thanks for taking the time you need to get it just right. What you do is truly art. Here's wishing you as much energy and inspiration as you need, and just remember: (to paraphrase Neil Gaiman on the subject) you are _nobody's_ Author-Bitch. :)

Glad your working on it George
Hey George I'm glad your still plugging away at your book. I'll be honest, I was a little nervous that your were holding out on publishing A Dance With Dragons until the series was released on TV for publicity. Anyway, I can't wait to read it. I can't find any books over the last 3 years that are good enough to hold my attention as well as yours do.

Nice post. Keep it up!

Great news, Master! Such an exciting impression reading about a genius'creative yeast! I do love you making us know all this: it's some way alike a hint of my favourite movie's director's notes. Have a nice Dance, George!

Baby & the Sword
I'm busy re-reading A Feast for Crows (the bit where Arya enters the House of Black and White) and have just noticed the reference to the statue of the Pale infant with a Sword. (I read Dream Songs not too long ago :)
