HBO Casting Continues

Casting on the HBO pilot of A GAME OF THRONES continues, but there's not much I can say about it, except in generalities. Another of the supporting roles has been filled, I am told, and offers have been made on several more. Now we're waiting to see if those deals will close, which of course depends on things like schedule, terms, money, and such. If all the pieces fall into place, we'll have some exciting and talented additions to the cast.

No, I have no idea when HBO will make their next cast announcement.

Two major roles and some small ones remain unfilled as I write.

Looks like I will be flying over to Ireland to watch some of the filming. Still trying to figure out the dates. Since I will be over there anyway, it seems like a good opportunity to meet some of my Irish fans, so I will likely be doing a couple of signings while I'm there. One in Belfast, almost certainly, and maybe a second in Dublin. We'll see what arrangements can be made. Details will here and on my Appearances page, once I know 'em.

I don't know if there are rules/protocol for posting replies in this journal, so I'm just going to go for it. I picture the wrestler HHH in the role of the Mountain that Rides. I'm very pleased with everyone I've heard reported so far- you must be excited to be so close to the production bringing this to the screen. Thanks for your work- my wife and I enjoy your books together- keep writing please!

His Hulking Hugeness is actually only 6'4"; if Gregor is to be played by a wrestler, it ought to be Paul "Big Show" Wight, or one of the enormous Australians Nathan Jones and Conan Stevens -- both of them have at least some acting experience apart from pro wrestling, and the latter, at least, is definitely interested in the show and that role.

I am SO taking a ferry over to Dublin from Glasgow for that signing! I missed you when you were in Denver and I couldn't make it a few years back, but now it doesn't matter because EEE!

The casting seems to be going so well...I'm so happy that HBO seems to be trying so hard to do your work justice!

Everything seems to be going pretty well, that's cool... can't wait till the next announcement.

Oh, and I hope I'll be in Ireland for the signings, if there are some... since I've recently offered the first books to my Irish boyfriend and he seems to like them, shouldn't be too difficult to convince him to come with me...

A signing in Dublin would be amazing! I already have your appearance at Octocon in 2010 marked on my virtual calendar but I'd love to see you before then! Hope you can make it!

And how 'bout a complimentary tour of Trinity College and viewing of the Book of Kells from some devout aSoIaf fans to entice ya down from Belfast??? Heh heh ;-)

(Hell, what am i saying? I'll make the trip up to belfast anyway!)

Hmm, two major roles unfilled for the pilot... Bran and Drogo? (This is assuming that Pycelle is the part that was written out of the pilot.) Or, in the context of the whole series, Luwin or Illyrio?

Hodor's not in the pilot. This is no doubt because they recognized the impossibility of finding someone good enough before filming needs to start for it.

By deduction, it seems pretty clear the last two major roles still not cast are Drogo and Bran.

Assuming that's the case, I wonder if the Drogo search has gone to Bollywood yet. The movie industry in India dwarfs that of Hollywood in terms of sheer numbers of films put out per year. No, not all of them are of high quality, but whatever the case ,there's bound to be at least a few really big guys there with more-or-less the right look (who probably play heavies in their actioners) who could be right for the role.

I know politics isn't your main concern, and I hate to ask, but it'd be great if you could do a signing in Dublin in addition to one in Belfast. My family is split 50-50 when it comes to Irish politics, but you're the whole family's favorite author. It might be a lot to ask, but I'd be personally very grateful if you showed a little love to both sides of the border.

I would certainly LIKE to do a Dublin signing, and my publishers are trying to arrange same. It's a question of whether they can find a bookstore that (a) wants to have me, and (b) has a suitable open date. We're only about five weeks out, and many bookshops schedule their events months in advance, so the scheduling is tricky. Most bookshops try to avoid having two writers in on the same day, and my window is quite tight, so the number of possible dates is very limited. But we'll do the best we can.

Martin, If you're over watching the filiming at the end of next month (possible I believe with the dates) then there is the larget games convetion in Ireland (and the larget independent games con in Europe) on the weekend of the 24th - 26th. - http://www.gaelcon.com/gaelcon/

It's an awesome convesntion and probably a great place to do both a signing and publicise other stuff.

I know a guy who organises these things for one of the biggest bookstores in Dublin. Do you, or your assistant, or publicist, want his contact details? He put together an amazing event in his bookshop with Neil Gaiman a while back...

Can you let us know when it is your gonna be in Ireland? Im a huge fan of the books but im based in Holland for a internship but I'd be more than willing to hop 'over the water' :P to get a chance of meeting you! Dublin would probably be easier as I have never been up North (a situation alot of southerners have!) so a Dublin signing would be super! But I am willing to travel. This is my first post so I'd also like to say how much I love your books George and thank you so much for the hours of entertainment!

once again I've lent the first two books out and will probably NEVER get them back.... (another addict) so for the fouth time i'll have to buy them... would be nice to have the following book to re-read the series and have something new to follow it... as it is I've lost most of my library (girls/siblings/etc) over the years and now i'm replacing the wheel of time series in anticipation of nov 2 (robert jordans DEAD and he can produce a book)

Great news! I hope you have a ball when you come over to Belfast for your set visit. Don't let the dirty Dubs pester you about going to their beautiful city:)! They are spoiled when it comes to the big acts and celebs visiting, so for once I don't think it would hurt them to pop up on the train. Sorry, my southern cousins!

What month will you be going over to see the filming? My boyfriend lives over there and I will be there for my winter break. I got him into your books. It would be fun for us to go to one of your book signings. :) And if not, at least he'll be able to go if I can't... :(
