Coming to Ireland

Arrangements are still being worked out, but I have some tentative dates and times for my appearances in Ireland in November.

On Tuesday, November 3, I will be speaking and signing at Eason's Bookstore in Belfast. The event begins at 1:00 pm. Or 1300 for you European types.

On Thursday, November 5, I will be at Eason's on O'Connell Street in Dublin. This event begins at 5:00 pm, or 1700.

More details when I have 'em.

There's a chance that David and/or Dan will drop by for the Belfast signing, and possibly some of the cast as well, but that's not certain. May depend on how the shoot is going, what's scheduled for that day, what's happening down at the Paint Hall, etc. If I get any news on that front, I'll be sure to pass it on.

These will be the first booksignings I've ever done in Ireland, so I don't know what sort of crowd to expect... but I'm looking forward to meeting some of my Irish readers. Pass the word.

Just sent the email to my boyfriend. I'm pretty sure he'll be there. :)

I hope you have a great time. I got back from a trip to Ireland a few months ago, it really is a lovely place.

Wow what a nice treat for the people of Ireland. Not only do you get the signing, but the chance of some the actors showing up too. I see you having a very nice crowd for this.

Book signing and a chance to meet the cast and producers/writers of the show?

That might be worth a trip across the ocean...

Which Eason's in Belfast? There's four.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:45 am (UTC)

The country of my birth!
Happy birthday brother. Stay cheerful and well travelled! I just refinished Feast of Crows this morning, and gasped at the date of that final personal note. I really look forward to the hazy exotic sheen of future Daenerys chapters

Sep. 23rd, 2009 01:23 am (UTC)
It'll be a load of drunks.... LOL... j/k...
Sep. 23rd, 2009 09:25 am (UTC)
I'll do George the singular honour of waiting until after the signing to get drunk! Seein' as it's just the one day loike... :)
Sep. 23rd, 2009 01:29 am (UTC)
wow, so jealous of Dublin and Belfast residents! how about coming to rural Oregon?
hmmm. not as exciting.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 01:56 am (UTC)
I've just been watching Peter Dinklage in his 30 Rock appearances, this guy is perfect for Tyrion. Hopefully make-up can ugly him up a little, but seriously that's the only thing I can see being inadequate.

How exciting for you, can't wait to see the pilot :)
Sep. 23rd, 2009 02:14 am (UTC)
Will be coming up from Cork, am massively excited, thank you so much!
Sep. 23rd, 2009 02:22 am (UTC)
Oh fine.
You can go to Ireland, but you can't make it to Georgia. Geez.

Though, if I had to pick, I'd chose Ireland too.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 02:22 am (UTC)
I wish I was headed to Ireland in November, but alas I will only be headed to . . . work. lol Oh well.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 02:39 am (UTC)
You're making me miss Ireland. I spent 3 months in Dublin and I shopped at Eason a time or two, if I'm thinking of the right O'Connell Street book store (and I probably am since it was the only bookstore I saw in Dublin that was big enough to hold much of a signing event). I hope you have some time to enjoy Ireland while you're there, it's a beautiful country.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 03:35 am (UTC)
oh that is fantastic I will definitely be there at the Belfast signing
Sep. 23rd, 2009 04:01 am (UTC)
Ahh lucky! Wish I was still there! Make sure you stop by the Badass Cafe in Temple Bar, Dublin, for the best pizza in the world.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:54 am (UTC)
I've no doubt Ireland is a wonderful country but...

...it's VERY hard to believe that the best pizza in the world could be found outside Italy!

Sep. 23rd, 2009 07:02 pm (UTC)
Dude, don't knock what you don't know. I was shocked myself, but this is pizza I have dreams about. And I know Italian pizza.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:52 pm (UTC)
well, our favorite international pizza joint
is in Gijon. In Spain. But George didn't get to try much pizza on his short trip to Italy a few years ago.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 05:37 am (UTC)
Come on now, George. You know perfectly well that in Ireland you are known as that guy who is always hanging around Parris...
Sep. 23rd, 2009 06:41 am (UTC)
I will try and be there but will be coming from Limerick. Although I did attend a signing in Glasgow back at the Feast of Crows publication.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 07:22 am (UTC)
Coming to ireland
Yay! I contacted eason book club to let them know you were looking for a place in dublin hoped it helped you out. Now just to get there...
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:08 am (UTC)
Is there a possibility for a short trip to London (Forbidden Planet?)? That would be easier to reach from Germany.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:39 am (UTC)
Awwwww I can't be there :-( I'm still in France at that time... and my Irish boyfriend who's also a fan is coming over to Paris to visit me ! Well I guess it will be for a next time...

Enjoy your trip anyway !

please go over to the Westeros boards
and read the topics in the Brotherhood section on our trip. I put up some info about these signings and general info on book signings that may help you get a signed book even if you're not in the country at the time.

Re: please go over to the Westeros boards
Thanks a lot for this ! It will probably get very useful. Thanks again.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:44 am (UTC)
Hurray! I hope Easons will have a few copies of the Dying Earth anthology on hand. It would be a perfect occasion to get it.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 09:29 am (UTC)
Just realised all my Martin books are in storage! Crikey - gonna have to go rummaging through boxes of books buried under piles of dusty furniture and dig 'em out for a signature! Ah, the joys of a collapsing houseing market, moving, etc. etc. etc. ...

Besides that though - can't wait! Eason's is a grand spot for a signing. Sometimes it's bedlam, sometimes quiet (depends on the author)... would be surprised if George doesn't pack the place to the rafters!
Sep. 23rd, 2009 09:52 am (UTC)
I'm kinda tempted to fly over to Belfast and see if you recognise me after knighting my head at Worldcon.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 11:09 am (UTC)
you actually write it 13:00 or 17:00 etc.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 12:53 pm (UTC)
Bah looks like ill have to travel all the way to dublin then, it's the day after my birthday so maybe ill convince a couple of friends to go..
Sep. 23rd, 2009 12:54 pm (UTC)
Well I am having my usual mixed feelings about great books being turned into film, but I admit I am excited to see how it turns out.

Zephyr -- a superhero webcomic in prose
Sep. 23rd, 2009 01:21 pm (UTC)
Looking forward to it. ive been hoping you would do a signing for years. :)
Sep. 23rd, 2009 01:30 pm (UTC)
Darn, we're going to be in Belfast until the 18th of October, so will miss you. Am curious to know what you think of the place, though -- and to know where in NI the filming will be taking place, although I guess that may not be public.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 03:16 pm (UTC)
No stop in Cork? Boo! :P
Sep. 23rd, 2009 04:07 pm (UTC)
I've already bought tons of your stuff directly from yourself (signed) but it'll be great to see you in the flesh!!

Sep. 23rd, 2009 06:20 pm (UTC)
Remember, remember... Oh, wrong country.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 06:38 pm (UTC)
Bad luck!
Life is not fair. I live in Belfast and I've been waiting for this announcement for weeks now! Of course I'm away from the city on November 3rd :( But I hope other Belfast fans will swarm Eason and drag George for a pint of Guinness afterwards! It looks liek I'll have to get this Boromir poster signed by Sean Bean some other day...
Sep. 23rd, 2009 09:01 pm (UTC)
Re: Bad luck!
please read my notes on the Westeros boards about how you might get a signed book even if you're not in town, a link provided in a response above. And please get the word out locally about the signings, so folks who may not read message boards or blogs specific to ASoI&F will have a better chance of hearing about the events.
Sep. 23rd, 2009 08:06 pm (UTC)
Damn, weekdays? Ugh, I don't think I'll be able to make it to O'Connell Street on the Thursday...

...I'll try and pull some strings. D:

Count me in. I hope it is the first of many visits to Belfast. After all the actors will all benefit from your presence on set! And I'm sure Dan and David appreciate you coming over too.
And a you will be speaking too!! Can't wait!
I will definately pass this news on.
Sep. 24th, 2009 09:55 am (UTC)
You're coming to Belfast!
I'm so there! This is madness, and possibly for me the best thing to ever happen in good old Norn Iron, I hope you have a great time :)
Sep. 24th, 2009 03:04 pm (UTC)
My dyslexia kicked in for a minute. I thought you wrote speaking and singing. Wow, I thought, and he sings too :)

Oct. 4th, 2009 12:49 pm (UTC)
I've written up a short piece about both signings, and posted in on my own LJ, on smoifa, and on uk_sf_events. You can see it here. I shall now proceed to mention it on Twitter, and possibly elsewhere!

(Our paths crossed many years ago when you were in Dublin at Octocon in, what, 1992?)
