It would be awesome if you'd managed to talk Sean Connery out of retirement for the role :D

I can't believe it!
You got Derek Jacobi! He will be brilliat as Ser Baristan. He was the Master on Doctor Who. The Friar is Brother Cadfael. He's performed with Honor Blackman, Sean Bean, Lena Hedley, etc. etc. This cast keeps getting better and better.

Well, we got a clue that's a little tougher to Google.

And, frankly, I don't really want to see the matches I get when I google for "pussy galore".

Pussy Galore was the chick in a Roger Moore Bond flick....Octopussy. Perhaps the only time Moore made a good Bond film.

Sigh.....Don't worry, George....I'll guess your Barristan......(or am I the one who is way off now?)

Re: You guys are way off
Pussy Galore is a female stunt pilot in Goldfinger, with Sean Connery. The character in Octopussy is called exactly that, hence the title.

It's probably Alun Armstrong, the actor connections seem to exist (checked only 3 of them I think), and browsing through his imdb I see a role as a Superintendent and as a pastor (also as sergeant and corporal)
[info]hippoiathanatoi wrote:

I think its Armstrong as well. The only person I can't directly connect him to is Iain Glen. However, they have both been in the Royal Shakespeare Company, and maybe that's close enough to satisfy GRRM's clues.

He worked with Headey on Onegin, Bean on Patriot Games, and has appeared in "New Tricks" with Honor Blackman (aka Pussy Galore).

As far as Jacobi go, if George had added "emperor" to the list of occupations... But I've got I, Claudius on the brain. Anyways, I don't believe it's him, though he'd certainly be more than up to the part.

Only the pilot is being cast, folks. Barristan doesn't show up. It's Ser Rodrik Cassel, certainly. I doubt it's Connery, very much -- he's retired from acting, and if he weren't, well, Ser Rodrik isn't exactly a huge role for him.

Furthermore, googling "Micheal Hogan and Sean Bean" revealed this little tidbit

"Brian Cox as Major Michael Hogan and Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe in "Sharpe's Eagle." Which could satisfy the knowledge department, in a way.

Again, the folks over at WiC figured it out with Ron Donachie as Ser Rodrick Cassel, if not Ser Barristan Selmy:

-"Ron Donachie! I haven't filled him to many of the roles. I don't even know what he looks like. But he is 54, he has been in films with all of them, and his IMDB starts off with colonel & doctor, just like GRRM lists them. He was a sergeant, a master at arms(Titanic), a Supt. (which I presume stands for superintendant), a corporal & a Minister("Sea of Souls"). So that leaves a Nazi and a friar."

-"He was Martin Bormann in Uncle Adolf (Bormann was Hitler's secretary and a leading Nazi). And was Friar Tuck in an episode of Ivanhoe back in 1997."

It amazes me how fast they can figure these things out.

What about Gen. Orlov from Octapussy? Steven Berkoff has been many things- a doctor, a Nazi (Hitler), a colonel (Russian in Rambo), a Sgt, a cpl (in 1959).

A final summation of Mozart's accurate solution to GRRM's riddles. I filled in a couple of blanks, so that there was no question about the accuracy. Speculation is that he will be playing Ser Rodrik Cassel.

Amazing Ryan. Ser Rodrik would seem likely...good show.

Also, keep in mind that according to Ian Flemming, Pussy Galore is always Mr. M's secretary. Knowing that may put a new light on the Swokowski brothers use of the name Pussy Funny as The Frenchman's girl in The Matrix.
