And Then There Was One

I could tell you the latest casting news, but really, the big guy should do that.

The grey man once had groupies. Yes, girls. Who?

The horse is saddled and bridled, but the rider has not yet appeared.

My first thought is that Maester Luwin's going to be played by Mick Jagger, once again returning to film and television...

... but then I noticed the past tense "had", and I'm pretty sure Mick still has groupies.

My first thought was Paul McCartney. Surely anyone who *had* groupies probably still *has* a few?

So Hodor has been cast, but not Bran...
Oct. 14th, 2009 01:50 am (UTC)
Re: Hodor!
Bran's been cast. And confirmed by Maureen Ryan after people at Winter-is-Coming figured it out a few days ago.

Henry Rollins?

Ian mackaye, probably.

I have to say, when you get this cryptic, it reminds me of some of the things my friends and I used to say in college when joking about secret spy code phrases.

"The parrot squwaks at midnight!"

Ummmm....I don't know. Sounds like Gregor to me, but I've lost track of who's been cast and who hasn't. Big guy, horse, etc. If it is...I'm really curious.
Oct. 14th, 2009 03:45 pm (UTC)
Gregor's not in the pilot. I strongly suspect George is talking about Khal Drogo.
Oct. 14th, 2009 03:51 am (UTC)
Could it be Meatloaf as Hodor? I'm sure he had groupies and was on a BBC music show called the Old Grey Whistle Test.
Oct. 14th, 2009 06:14 am (UTC)
Billy Nighy played a decaying rock star in Love Actually. With groupies and all? Plus hes all old and gray? Though he is neither big nor can I imagine who hed play anymore? Bah, I don't know!
Oct. 14th, 2009 01:16 pm (UTC)
The Meat is too old to play Hodor
Oct. 14th, 2009 02:08 pm (UTC)
Conan Stevens as the Mountain that Rides? :)
Oct. 14th, 2009 02:22 pm (UTC)
My first thought was Christopher Eccleston - pretty much because of the 'Who?' comment (he was Doctor Who) and the 'rider' stuff (he was the Rider in the appalling adaptation of Susan Cooper's Darl is Rising ... he was the saving grace of the film!).
Oct. 14th, 2009 02:32 pm (UTC)
I've always pictured the Dothraki to be somewhat Mongolian. After I saw Mongol, my dream actor for Drogo has been Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano.
Oct. 18th, 2009 06:05 am (UTC)
Are you reading my thoughts? Because that was my exact thought for Drogo, too.

WiC Does It Again...
The minds over at WiC Blog have done it again.

Ian McNeice is Illyrio Mopatis.
(He's a big man, and he delivered the news on ROME.)

Donald Sumpter is Maester Luwin.
(He was in episodes of Dr. Who, and in a film called Groupie Girl.)

Khal Drogo is not yet cast.
(Since Morocco shoot will be a couple weeks later, they are still not required to have him cast by the time principle photography begins in Belfast.)

That's all I got.

Oct. 14th, 2009 02:37 pm (UTC)
Pretty sure GRRM said Hodor's not in the pilot. I don't see many guesses on this one. Have to check back after work to see.
Oct. 14th, 2009 03:16 pm (UTC)
Please don't let it be Hodor.
If it is, take mercy on me and the others. That way I can stop going out every other evening and running with 60lbs on my back. My knees and back will be forever in your debt.

Hi. :) This is my first actual post in years of checking up on your site/blog. I've been eagerly watching the announcements on what roles have been cast, and while I didn't have too many I've wanted to share (aside from wishing Miranda Richardson was about 20 years younger, she is Cersei in my mind's eye), I finally have to say something about Gregor Clegane. So, I get you're in to football, but how about MMA? It's picking up quite a little following and there are a lot of big monsters that step into the ring/cage and the one who stands out to me as Gregor is Brock Lesnar. Yes, formerly of WWE fame (blegh), but if you've ever seen him fight (for real, not those staged shenanigans), he's a beast of a person. He probably can't act for shit, but here's a youtube clip of him training for an upcoming fight (go Carwin!) complete with drama music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7wIM9bww0w&feature=player_embedded

Alas, he's only 6'3", but he *cuts weight* in order to get to 265 for fight time, and his hands are so big they special make his gloves. Anyway, good luck on your knots and don't sweat making your novels smaller! I *love* *love* *love* reading your books and never really want them to end, so coming in at 1200+ pages is totally fine by me and probably the rest of your fans. :D

Having a Mountain who is three inches shorter than our Hound might be a problem.

I'm guessing Christopher Eccleston of Dr. Who fame, who played The Rider in the movie The Dark is Rising: The Seeker (a movie which everyone would do well to avoid if they'd rather not have their memories of a favorite fantasy novel desecrated).

Morgan Van Dericho is Khal Drogo?? WOOO HOOO!!!!
Oct. 14th, 2009 09:33 pm (UTC)
On westeros there was a poll and among the choices there was this

Dalip "The Great Khali" Singh

who would fit very well the description of Drogo.

quick casting thought
the last couple nights i managed to get the bbc series robin hood downloaded and started watching it. Keith Allen would be a perfect tywin I think, just thought i would make sure this guy has been seen =).

Oct. 14th, 2009 11:01 pm (UTC)
Re: quick casting thought
He's Alfie Allen's father, so at least one person on AGoT definitely knows about him :)
Oct. 14th, 2009 09:19 pm (UTC)
*THE* perfect Tywin would undoubtedly be Clint Eastwood, but his honorary would certainly exceed any TV series budget.

I have found a guy who would be a good Sir Ilyn Payne.
He's italian and doesn't seem very... not very... smart :D

But Ilyn doesn't have to say much, does he? HAHA...

Take a look at his ugly mug but don't be scared (that's nearly exactly how I imagine him while reading the books):

BTW: at some point he states that he tried to work for the italian TV, but they didn't appreciate his outlook.
Oct. 15th, 2009 04:47 pm (UTC)
Brother, that's almost exactly how I pictured Ilyn Paine in my head. Where did you dig up this guy, for crying out loud?
Clint as Tywin? Never thought of that - damnyanqui - Oct. 19th, 2009 11:49 am (UTC) - Expand

I think its Roger Daltrey as Littlefinger.
Oct. 15th, 2009 10:39 am (UTC)
I've always pictured Khal Drogo as the Rock (Dwayne Johnson). He's HUGE, buff, and perfectly complected for the part.
Oct. 16th, 2009 03:43 pm (UTC)

I like the clue thing, it is fun to specualte!!

not unlike Football, Why is it 4 downs? When Canadians only need 3!

has it got to do with Farehite and Celcious?
