Three for the Prologue

Spain
A GAME OF THRONES opens in the haunted forest north of the Wall, with three brothers of the Night's Watch on a ranging.

The viewpoint character is Will, sent to the Wall for poaching. In the pilot, he will portrayed by Bronson Webb.

He has been in projects with Tamzin Merchant, Nicholaj Coster-Waldau, and Iain Glen. One of his first roles was "boy on a bicycle." Peter Parker is Spider-Man and Bronson is a Webb, so they have spiders in common. And he has a home page, a Facebook page, and a My Space page.

Will's commander on the ranging is the young knight Ser Waymar Royce, a son of Bronze Yohn Royce, new to the Wall, clad in sable cloak. Playing Ser Waymar will be Jamie Campbell Bower.

JCB has an important role in the forthcoming HARRY POTTER movie, as a wizard from Dumbledore's past, and can also be seen the new TWILIGHT film. And of course it is the twilight zone that lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. He'll also be in the PRISONER remake, but as a number, not a free man. He was in SWEENEY TODD too, though I didn't include that in the clues. Didn't want to make it too easy.

The grizzled veteran Gared is the third member of the prologue's intrepid trio. His part will be played by Richard Ridings.

Ridings' previous credits include roles in RED DWARF, FAT FRIENDS, HIGHLANDER, and WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? and turns as characters named Roach and Daddy Pig.

Fantastic, I can clearly see all these actors in the roles and I'm sure they will be brilliant.

It may have been mentioned elsewhere, but I was wondering if anyone has any idea if all the cast and crew - or how many of them - have read the books and are fans of them? I know it's not required for actors to have read the original source material to put in a good performance in a film or TV adaption, and I know busy people may not have the time to read through thousands of pages, but it would be good to know. Even in a serial drama it will be impossible to put everything that is in the books on the screen, but the little details mentioned in passing on the page can create a richer performance when noticed by the performer in a careful reading.

reading the books
I absolutely agree, yet I do not. My wife and I both being avid readers, I will admit I've read the Twilight books. While I'm not a "twi-hard" it was plainly stated by Robert and Kristin that they had not read the books. In the movie, it was completely obvious (and perhaps from lack of good directing) that they had no idea how they were supposed to portray the emotions of the events occurring in the scenes.

Reading the books, and feeling that experience first hand will be a valuable asset to any actor. I cannot count the times that my hands were nervously shaking as I turned the pages of these books. To feel that, and bring that to the screen would not only benefit the actors, but please the audience as well.

Hot damn!! I can really hardly wait to see this, it's going to be simply amazing. A little disturbing, though, how Jamie is so hot that he looks like a girl... but I'll get by!

"Hot looking?"
Well, yes, Jamie Campbell Bower is quite the pretty boy.
But that actually seems perfect, about what I'd have expected for Ser Waymar Royce.
Put him in a perfectly groomed goatee and impeccably tailored black and he'd be just the sort that the Others would like to... well... y'know...

The prologue will be the prologue?
Outstanding!
So right out of the gate we must get some kind of answer to the burning (well... freezing) question:
WHAT DO THE OTHERS LOOK LIKE???!!!
Are any clues to that forthcoming?

I wondered whether they are going to film the prologue or would they start off from Winterfell. I guess they will have to cut some scenes anyway, but I'm glad they keep this one. The cast looks great.

For those who were surprised or wondering about the shooting of the prologue & which other scenes from the novel may or may not appear in the pilot, you could always check out the script, which was leaked ages ago. It took me about 10 seconds to google up my copy.

Of course, the script has changed a bit since it was leaked - we already know the Nameless Eunuch has been cut, for instance.

Oh wow, that came out all wrong. What I meant was that the nameless eunuch was cut *from his scene*, the validity of other obvious interpretations notwithstanding.

PS. Someone mentioned Drogo having been cast - anyone know if this has been confirmed?

Will?
Is Will the one who gets his head kicked my Theon after Eddard cuts it off?

Will is killed by the corpse. Gared goes South and it is his head that Theon kicks.

Wow, shows how much I've been paying attention. My second thought was "JCB is also playing WHO in WHAT now?!" (My first thought naturally being "Yay, JCB is showing up in ASOIAF!") Harry Potter and Ice and Fire news in the same posting? GRRM, you've made me a very happy young lady today. Cheers!

Don't feel bad, Elinye. For the past year, after reading all of the books in the series, I still thought Gared was alive and didn't think nothing of the man that got beheaded. I clearly wasn't paying attention. I was so dismayed when I learned of Gared's demise last week!

I also did not realize that the man decapitated by Eddard in the first chapter was Gared from the prologue until after reading it in the HBO script. Going back into the book to investigate, they never do confirm or make clear that the deserter was indeed Gared, but the implications are there.

LEAKED SCRIPT (minor story deviances that quirked me)
I really like how the script follows the book almost to the letter, seeing the Others in the prologue scene will be awesome.
HOWEVER: there were two items that irked me a little bit, the first one especially:

1) NED (To Jaime) "Was it justice you were thinking of when you stabbed your spear in the Mad King's back?"
Ummm, EXCUSE ME, but Jaime Lannister slit Aerys' throat with his golden gilded sword, not stabbed him in the back with a spear... come on, we're not talking about Janos Slynt here... I think that should be corrected for a certainty.

2) When Robert proposes Ned become Hand of the king, the script says
"You know the Saying..." "The King Shits, and the hand wipes."
In the books the saying is "The King Eats, The hand takes the shit."
although this is a minor detail, I still feel the way it is in the books is the better of the two.

anyone agree?
