A Pair of Starks

One of the hardest parts to cast was Bran. When the story opens he's a cute kid, off to see a man beheaded for the first time. But after that... think of all the challenges that await the boy in this role. We think we've found a young actor capable of handling them, however. His name is Isaac Hempstead-Wright.

My clues for this one are pretty self-explanatory. Hempstead is a town in Nassau, and Isaac was the Biblical sacrifice (not really, of course, Yahweh was just joking around). All the same, I was astonished when some of you managed to puzzle them out. Isaac is a bright young talent and he gave a great reading, but I figured he was google-proof. Not so. I'm looking forward to seeing him bring Bran to life.

Also cast, as his uncle and Lord Eddard's younger brother Benjen, a ranger of the Night's Watch, is Joseph Mawle.

Another fast-rising British actor, Mawle has portrayed both Jesus and Judas, starred in a film called FREEFALL, and began his acting career at the Tobacco Factory Theater. Check out his showreel at http://www.josephmawle.com/main.html for a sample of his talents.

Mental images
Yeah. That's a bit of the downside to putting any great book on to film--it changes a lot of the original visual images we have stored up from reading the story

Re: Mental images
Well, that's what normally happens. But in this case, each cast actor looks exactly as I imagined when reading the book. Hence, my accusation of grand theft imagery.

Re: Mental images
While the casting is excellent, not many of the actors have matched
my imagery very close if much at all. But then... I'm just being
a pain in the *rse. ^-^ hehe...

I don't suppose you watch ProfMTH on youtube?

"not really, of course, Yahweh was just joking around" reminded me of one of his videos :)

Bran would be a tough nut to crack. Best of wishes to young Isaac.

Yes, that is a really good Bran. The role will be a long and challenging one, it will probably be the one that shows the greatest amount of his range for the rest of his life! He's adorable, and he'll be very sympathetic.

Do you worry that seeing the actors will alter your own mental images/plans for your characters? (One of those, "questions for the author" things.) :))

ONE MAN'S OPINION:
I have to totally agree that the casting is going extremely well,
Pretty Bang-On for most of my mental images of the characters, although looks are not all that's needed to bring the depth and range of George's character's to life.

The actors chosen for Ned, Tyrion (especially Tyrion), Catelyn, Cersei, Jaime, Arya & Sansa are almost right on par with how I pictured them.
The 3 from the prologue and Bran as well look perfect for their roles!

The only characters I pictured a lttle differently from the actors cast to play them are Ser Jorah Mormont and Joffrey, but i'm sure they were chosen for their ability to give a realistic portrayal of the characters.
Mark Addy as Robert looks like a good fit physically but he almost appears too 'jolly' to bring out Robert's intense, stubborn, Bullish and hot tempered nature, although im sure during his readings he proved he could.
To be honest, Tamzin Merchant looks absolutely nothing like how i pictured Dany, but after watching a few of her clips on youtube I'm sure she'll do a great job, too.

*Consider*
I wonder if, after seeing the HBO Pilot/Series, your mental images of the characters will be replaced with the likenesses of the actors in the future books??? hmmmm, food for thought.
