Moving On

The Scottish filming is done, and cast and crew are packing up today for the big move to Belfast and its Paint Hall, where the shoot will resume. So far, so good.

Parris and I are moving on as well. She'll be headed over to Ireland tomorrow to spend Samhaim with friends, while I linger here in Scotland a few more days to visit with Lisa Tuttle. We converge again in Belfast in November. Today we swung by the HarperCollins warehouse outside Glasgow, where I signed five hundred hardcovers of SONGS OF THE DYING EARTH. Ask for one at your favorite UK bookstore, they will be going all over the country.

Things are shaping up for the signing at Eason's in Belfast. Last night after the filming wrapped we stayed up late drinking with the cast, and I think we convinced a number of them to join us at Eason's. Should be a hoot and a half, assuming they don't come to their senses in the cold grey light of morning. I told them my readers were essentially harmless. Hah.

The cast is sensational, by the way.

Funny you mention Lisa Tuttle as I just finished reading my copy of Windhaven finally. A very enjoyable read.

Damn, I just left Scotland yesterday to return to Canada. Wish I'd known you were shooting in the area, I would have tried to hunt you down to buy you a dram :D

I'm absolutely gutted that I can't make the Belfast meet - any other the day of the year and I'd be there, but the fact is its my son Bran's 9th nameday on the 3rd November - the irony is killing me George!!

So, is there an exact release date for when this pilot is going to air? or is that a TBA thing? Me and my boyfriend want to set aside time specifically for when it airs as soon as possible so nothing can suddenly come up and ruin plans.

Glad to hear you guys are doing well and having so much fun! Please, when this launches into a real live TV series(cause let's face it, there's no way HBO can turn this down with how wonderful it's shaping up to be), perhaps come to do signings in San Fransisco? :D

I may be wrong but I don't think pilots air to the public, I think they are for the execs who will decide if it becomes a series, if they like it they give it the go-ahead , then we get to see the series when it comes out (of course I may be wrong)

I am SO stoked! Wow! Everything must be flowing well: cast, crew, etc must work well together- good sign.

A little bit closer to being able to finally see it on HBO, hopefully- they'll pick it up if they know what's good for 'em ;)

Hope someone has told Easons that George is coming. I was in the shop today and the only mention of any book signings is for Michael (Monty Python) Palin on the 6th. Unfortunately I am on course on Tuesday and will unable to come myself.

A question about a question
One of the things that drew me into A Song of Ice and Fire was that the seasons occur over many years. I figured that it not only would be explained, but be even more integral to the plot than it already is. I am just wondering if it will ever be explained or if it will just be left at "Since the Doom came to Valyria."

I haven't posted on your blog before, but I've been a great fan of yours for years. I won't be able to make the signing, but hopefully I'll be able to come to the moot. Even if I can't, I'm very excited about seeing ASoIaF on screen =D The cast sound great so far!

Anyway, I was just wondering if minors (meaning a few days shy of 16) are welcome at the moot? McHugh's seems to be okay for it, which gives me hope, but if not, well... I guess I'll get over it eventually!

If so, I look forwards to maybe seeing you & the cast there.
