Thursday Night Lights

Life is magical and full of... uh... a tiny teeny bit of hope?

The Jets beat the Bills of Buffalo last night in Toronto, which was good. Defense looked awesome, especially Darrell Revis, who completely shut down that loudmouth TO. Offense, not so much. And things got even worse on the offensive side of the ball when Mark Sanchez dove for a first down and hurt his OTHER knee, the one not already in a brace. Really, he's taking this "following in the footsteps of Joe Namath" thing too far. Kellen Clemens looked awful in relief. If Sanchez is seriously hurt, Gang Green is done.

And if not... well, there's still a slim chance we could make the playoffs. All we'd need to do is sweep our last four games, including the undefeated Colts and red-hot Bengals. That's going to happen, sure. Uh-huh.

But Rex does have the defense playing lights out, so that's something.

Buffalo is just over the border from Toronto. However, plenty of NFL fans here in Canada, and the Bills have started playing a game or two in the CFL (Canadian Football League) stadium in Toronto, because they can sell out more quickly and charge more for tickets. Means more butts in the seats. My brother was actually at that game!

"red-hot Bengals." There's a phrase that hasn't been heard much over the years...

Not since the days of Boomer Esiason and Ickey Woods, anyway.

Give it up, George.
First, they are the Jets... second, not only do they have to win out, they need 4 out of 5 good teams ahead of them to stumble badly (Pitt, Baltimore, Pats, Denver and Jacksonville).

Realistically, that's what I thought the Jets would be - a good, but not great team, 8-8 or so. Then Rex Ryan came in and blew the expectations out of any proportion. So now, this year feels like a dissapointment instead of what it should have been - a building block year.

football
Good on the Jets shutting down TO.

As for my Rams, we have the NFC West right where we want them...thinking we suck.

Re: football
The Seahawks have been on a similiar course the past two years. The Rams have done a better job, however. ;)

Bengals
I have to agree. I cannot support the Jets vs. Bengals. We bengals fans have lived through some rough years and it is finally nice to have a team that is focused on the things they SHOULD be focused on.

And they weren't prevented from going on the field by desperate CFL fans. Its a win all around. :)

CFL season ended last weekend. Desperate CFL fans are the bulk of tickets sales when the Bills are in TO; because it means they get to watch some form of football!

Yo. On a different note, does this news:

have any relevance to your life anymore, or did you sever ties with Dabel Brothers completely?

Revis is pretty much a monster. That kid is simply flat out good. I have been enjoying him all season.

I can't believe we let you guys just steal Rex out from under us. (Yes I know we handed him over freely) BUT STILL!!!

I just hope Thomas Jones continues to be productive. I've got him on one of my fantasy teams that's going to be in the playoffs next week.

Did you catch any of the Monday Night Football game? I've never in my life been so proud of my Saints-it's like we're living in the twilight zone...

I just hope we either don't have any losing in our system or get it out of the way before playoffs...because having a losing team for years and years and getting used to them losing is one thing: having them build up your hope and confidence then shattering it all at the peak is more than some of us can take.

I have faith, though. Faith in "Special" and "Finish."

Forgot the game was on. Clemens should look better with a week and a half of practice. Sanchez needs some humble pine. If he doesn't learn that, this town will eat him alive.

Who Dey!
Sorry, George... but Cincy is probably going to need that win for a tie break with the Pats... assuming that we can also beat San Diego... at San Diego. Sadly, the Bengals have this nasty habit losing important games down the stretch. Nearly 30 years of devotion to this team has prepared me to expect the worst.

As a life long Chicagoan who remembers the teams of the 1980's, I'm so excited the progeny of Buddy Ryan have learned their Dad's 46 defense (named after Doug Plank who coaches for the Jets) and even improved on it. The Colt's game is a huge test - bring on Peyton!

I do not think it's unquestionable that we could beat the Bengals. Our team is of that caliber, but we made simple, stupid mistakes that turned us into a 6-6 team. Most of the games we lost were easily winnable. And, another point, the Bengals lost to the raiders, which means they can lose to the Jets.

As for the Colts, we can only hope that by that point in the season they're fielding their second string.

The Jets (and especially coah Ryan) got a little cocky at the early part of the season. They lost the swagger they had after beating the Patriots, but that is to be expected with a rookie QB. The playoffs this season are out of the question though with the Colts and Bengals on the schedule. Then again, the Colts have to lose sometime, right??

I really hope the Jets don't make it in. That would probably mean my Dolphins didn't make it. And my Dolphins have suffered through some awful seasons lately. I really would love for them to make it to the playoffs again. Besides I hate the Jets. :)
