Here's Brienne

Spain
And on the miniature front, here's a beautiful new painted version of the Maid of Tarth. The figure was sculpted by the incomparable Tom Meier, and painted by the fabulous Marike Reimer.

Brienne is also available in a version w/ helm. She... and the rest of the Ice and Fire miniatures... is available from the OnLine store at http://darkswordminiatures.com/

If some of the rumours are true then some of the women body builders actually were men at one time. But, the fact...which Tom points out in his blog "[a man's] ribcage is about as wide as his pelvic bone. A typical woman by contrast has a hipbone wider than her ribcage".

The sculpture looks like the hips are as wide as the ribcage. Also, the thighs are not thick enough for the upper torso...I would expect Brienne to have slightly thicker thighs than hips even. I think Tom tried to make Brienne look like a man instead of a monster...which is what I felt that George was going for...not that Brienne looked like a man, but that her shape was distorted from what a woman or man should be.

Well...I'm not going to like all the miniatures, so this must be one of them.

Fair enough. I think it'd be incredibly difficult to actually say much of anything about the mini's proportional rendition of Brienne, what with the armor, the baggy surcoat, the twisting of the body, etc. :)
