Snowing Again in Santa Fe...

writing
... which probably means I should be working on another Jon Snow chapter, but I'm not.

Instead I'm floating off the Isle of Cedars, or racing across the sands of Dorne. Warm places, both of them, with nary a flake to be seen. But I'd better not change horses. If I keep on keeping on, I should finish one of those chapters this week. Maybe both.

So glad you are in the groove again :) Enjoy it - don't rush it. Remember why you love to write in the first place, and don't let your fans bully you into rushing.

This right here. If you ever feel like delving into your writing process on LJ (even with comments blocked) I'd love to read it.

OH MY GOD YOU'RE DONE?!?!?!
Haha- Just kidding.

Actually, I do have a question if you have a moment-are any of these chapters getting bumped to Winds? just curious. I know Sansa got the bump, but I am curious to know how much of the other POVs got progression into Winds.
A big fan,
JV
PS- thanks for these tidbits of updates. I'm anxious, but these do help the wait.

don't even joke about that
"Are any of these chapters getting bumped to Winds?"

Well, it's possible, sure. If I knew they were going to get bumped into the next book, I wouldn't be writing them now, of course, so it's my intent that they be part of DANCE. But at some point, when the finished manuscript goes to my editors, it may be they will say, "this chapter would work better in the next book." Which is indeed what has already happened with the Sansa chapter, and with one Arya chapter I have completed as well.

One major factor will be how big the final book is. If I end up producing something longer than A STORM OF SWORDS, you can bet your firstborn that some chapters will get shifted. That's NOT the only factor, mind you... and don't worry, I am not there yet.

Though I am within spitting distance of 1200 pages.

Dorne? DORNE? Uhm .... yay? Our favorite place. ;)

Isle of Cedars is that isle in Slaver's Bay. So ... someone's approaching Dany by sea, I'm guessing.

But Dorne's a (very pleasant) surprise. Even if might just be an extended flashback, I suppose.

Off topic but...
I was wondering if you know anything about the HBO pilot or series or whatever it may be. Is it going to be picked up by HBO? Has it been dumped? This may seem a little weird, me asking you instead of George, but it's obvious the guy's busy as can be, and can't answer random questions we may have.

I don't know where to get any info on the subject, and you seem like a cool person(s) who knows a lot of things regarding ASOIF that I do not. If this has already been posted about, I apologize. Thanks Hippo!=)

Isle of Cedars? So someone is leaving Slaver's Bay, or just arriving.

Very interesting :-)

I too am enjoying these little tidbits about your writing life. I'm finally seriously settling down into writing--making an effort every day rather than 'when the mood strikes,' which, if you get out of the habit, doesn't happen all that often.

1200 pages is a bit mind-boggling. Very annoying that publishers are intent on "breaking" the book into smaller parts. Proust's published work that's 1.5 million words long. Bring on the epic fantasy, I say!

As I'm currently suffering through a New England winter, a mental vacation to Dorne sounds delightful.

Thanks for the book updates, I'll miss your football commentaries but it's all WIN in the end.

Thank you for your updates
I know you hate doing updates but we, the fans, REALLY appreciate them. Hearing about the Isle of Cedars and Dorne made me tingle all over with joy. Since you covered some characters from Dorne in AFFC, I can only assume this time you're working on a new character. Could this be... Quentyn? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, thanks for making my day :)

Cold and slushy in ABQ right now. The Westside is frozen but the city is dry. I work for APS so I NEVER get a snow day. Wish I could stay in but school calls! Thank you, for the updates it’s really fun to hear about your progress.
