Thoughtcrime

The latest outrage by the TSA.

http://articles.latimes.com/2010/feb/11/local/la-me-arabic12-2010feb12

America is a free country. Except at its airports.

Anyone who thinks this is cool should go back and read their Orwell.

Kudos to this kid, for challenging the TSA in court.

Re: Lawd
A war can be anything from armed hostility to a struggle. Regardless of what your definition is, we are at conflict with extremists residing (primarily) in Iraq & Afghanistan. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no way to magically identify them (whether it's in an airport, a bus, a train, or simply walking down the street). I'm not saying these laws and interpretations of the laws are not fallible, but there is no magic cure.

Actually, contrary to what you may think, there are actual legal definitions of what is and what is not a war that have ramifications for what the government can or cannot do. Furthermore, in Iraq and Afghanistan -- those countries where we're not actually at war with anyone -- the majority of the population are our allies, meaning that we actually depend on them to accomplish our goals. Finally, last I checked, speaking Arabic isn't a prerequisite for blowing yourself up, so targeting Arabic speakers isn't really going to do anything to keep us safe. Everybody here understands that these security practices (not laws, mind you) are designed to target people who look like terrorists, but there's a big difference between smart, targeted security measures and security theater (look it up), which is what this is.
