I have reached a final settlement with Guardians of Order, the Canadian games company that published the role-playing game based on A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE before going under last year.
We're now all square, and that license has officially expired. It is not the ending that I would have hoped for, but I'm glad to have concluded things amicably.
As part of our settlement, I have acquired the remaining stock of the deluxe, limited edition of the RPG worldbook, a huge and lavishly illustrated hardcover. I will be listing the book for sale on the "Signed Books" page of my website in the very near future, but I thought I'd give my Not-a-Bloggers a little advance notice.
If any of you want to snag a copy, the price is $100, which includes book rate shipping within the United States (overseas is more). This is a big and beautiful book with lots of great artwork, and tons of background material on the world of Westeros that may be of interest even to those who do not play role-playing games. And needless to say, I would be glad to sign and inscribe the book on request. You can get a look at the cover and some of the graphics by scrolling back through the Archives sections of the news page.
(Please email if you are interested, don't comment about it here).
There will be another RPG in the future. I am considering offers from several other companies right now, and expect to have a new license to announce within the next couple of months,

It's a shame that more supplements will not be made in the furture though.
I love the game so much ^_^
I too love the game
I got my two copies (one deluxe, one normal) at GenCon for my husband and I when it released. It is an absolutely gorgeous book. Even if we didn't play RPGs, it would be an awesome source book for the artwork and world information.
I can hardly wait to see who picks up the license, and hope they keep up the quality!
I would hope for a less-traditional, more story-oriented design this time around, rather than another D20 version.
I have no idea if they'd be interested, but I reccoment Alderac Entertainement (AEG). They're roll and keep system would fit beautifully.
There was a pdf adventure produced (just a 4-5 page thingy) that was available for download on GoO's website, but as far as I know the screen never materialised.
Do you think that your books will be translated into an MMO like Everquest, World of Warcraft, etc?
then i will forget about the outside world altogether!
i need to go outside ONCE in a while.
OK,if the books are translated,DON'T TELL ME.
i like my world of dragons,~'the sword of truth'~,rings,elves,faerie,etc...
if i ever get wealthy enough to quit my job,i hope someone is there to get me outside and do important stuff, like going to cons.
wait...'futureworld' is on tv...
gotta go watch the other monitor in my life,
the_lady_snow ;P
but I can't. D=
Bankruptcy is always frustrating for unsecured creditors like us, and I've had to deal with more than my share of it this past year. Not only in regards to Guardians of Order, but also with iBooks, who had the rights to ten of my WILD CARDS books... and now Publishers Group West, which acquired all of the warehoused stock from iBooks and Byron Preiss Visual Publications, has itself gone under in the AMS bankruptcy (those last two WILD CARDS books in particular could turn out to be quite rare).
Here's hoping the rest of my licensees and publishers all stay afloat for many decades to come!
Sympathies that your legal mess was...a mess. You were certainly due for some good news.
I wonder how one would convert something like the social status/house mechanics from GoO's game to RQ... Hrm.
I know I can order unsigned copies from amazon.co.uk. However, the only time I could get them signed would be the weekend you're in Indy, and I have to be at a work function that Saturday. I want to give them as gifts to a couple people in our wedding this August.
If you don't want to comment here, you can email me at ckauzlarich at gmail dot com. Thanks George :)
There's one other poster map, which you can be found in Dragon #307. I'm pretty sure it's the same size as the one in the GoO RPG, however.
(Figured I'd slide that in before someone else did.)
I enjoyed this book, though I've never actually played it. (Much like the board game, alas.) The Northeast BWB is way too interested in alcohol to find time for unabashed geekery.
But I for one want more merchandise. Action figures. A massively multiplayer online game. A Strong Belwas sex doll.
You know, the good stuff.
Also, forgive me for directly contradicting the original post, but where do we email you to express interest in purchasing the deluxe edition?
See this post by Eefster, it points to GRRM's e-mail address. :)
Any thoughts about approaching Citadel Minatures or Hogshead games in England about producing both the RPG and/or a minatures game for the books? Alot of us gamers have always thought that wars between the various houses would make an excellent wargame. After all you have several factions, each with a unique flavor and style...food for thought.
Now to eagerly await the next novel.
No word on it since then, but I'd guess that if Testors ultimately doesn't do a miniatures game, it'll be awhile before the license is free and clear.
