Another snowy day in Santa Fe. Winter has bloody well come, and refuses to leave.
Yesterday's SUICIDE KINGS signing at Barnes & Noble in Albuquerque went well, I think. We had a nice, enthusiastic crowd and signed a lot of books. Poor Vic Milan came down with some sort of creeping crud and had to cancel, but Carrie Vaughn, Caroline Spector, John Jos. Miller, Ian Tregillis, Melinda M. Snodgrass, Daniel Abraham, and yours truly were all on hand, defacing books. We signed a considerable amount of stock as well, so if you're looking for an autographed title by any of the above, contact B&N at Coronado Center.

Speaking of Wild Cards, we have some good news for my Italian fans. I've just signed contracts for Italian language translations of the first three volumes of the series (WILD CARDS, ACES HIGH, and JOKERS WILD). The publisher will be RCS Libri. Needless to say, if these books do well, the rest of the series will follow in good tine.
On other fronts, I'm going to be coming to Minnesota in November. Fantasy Flight Games is bringing me in as a special guest for 'Days of Ice and Fire,' a weekend-long celebration of Westeros at FFG's new Events Center in Roseville, MN. FFG will be running tournaments for their Ice & Fire card game and board games, and I'll be doing a Q&A, several signing sessions, and maybe a reading from A DANCE WITH DRAGONS. More details can be found on FF's own site at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_ news.asp?eidn=1120 We'll know more about the schedule when we get closer to the event.
Another visit to a big midwestern city is in the works as well, and much sooner than the FFG event, but I can't talk about that one yet. Watch this space. Announcement soon.

I saw the news about FFG's new board game, "Battles of Westeros". Sounds very cool (for those who want more info, see here, and check the Hopeless Gamer front page, he has a couple more pictures up since I posted detailing the Stark and Lannister "hero" characters). Very tempting.
The other board game is more strategic, and never quite caught my fancy, but this one... Maybe a better route to just use an existing battle system such as BattleLore; it was a shame Testors never got anywhere with their own tactical game. That all said, I can't imagine the people who spend their time actually painting all these little army figures, though. Too bad they can't produce those pre-colored somehow, I think it'd greatly broaden the appeal (but probably, also, the cost).
From advice that GRRM and Parris have given in the past, when there's a new signing tour in the offing, lobby your local booksellers to get in touch with the relevant publisher and request that GRRM make an appearance. Point out that he hasn't appeared at a booksigning in Texas since 1996, and this could be a major bookselling event for them. Hopefully Bantam'll reconsider. :)
And yes, put me down as another vote for an Austin visit if at all possible!
I think part of it is the moral ambiguity in the books. Straight good vs. evil doesn't really work for interesting factional competition and conflict. Ice and Fire avoids a lot of those issues, and works just as well for games as universes specially built for games.
Here is a link to the event's page.
Dragoncon needs to move back to its original dates. Labor Day weekend, by long tradition, belongs to worldcon.
This should be the new House Stark slogan.
Anyway, I'm glad that RCS Libri will soon publish Wild Cards but I'm a bit surprised because your Songs of Ice and Fire saga is actually published by Mondadori, another italian publisher. I hope their translation will be as good as the Mondadori one, whose work was really amazing even if they decided to split every book in two volumes... a weird solution to make readers buy more books (I'm now finishing the 9th volume...). Anyway... Keep on the good work, your storytelling is just amazing! Hope to be able to read the end of the song in 10 years from now!!! ;) Sorry for my bad english... and "Saluti" from Lugano (Switzerland)
(Doesn't anyone ever check my appearances page? All my scheduled cons and signings are listed there).
That's not the new appearance I was referring to, however. That one hasn't been announced yet.
Card games, board games, RPGs, miniatures and replica swords. That's a pretty good product line there for SoIaF licensees :)
And given the nature of the attendees (and number of same) I think George would see 30,000 eager fans in Indy, too.
An attendance by GRRM at Gencon would be ... impressive, to say the least. Gencon is not Worldcon in terms of its alcohol consumption, but it's a helluva fun convention, just the same.
Can I have a new book for Christmas please ;-)
Have you some news for hedge knight 2 comic book?
RCS is the editorial of Corto Maltese (my favourite comic hero-antihero)written and drawn by Hugo Pratt, a master of international comics.
do you know him?
I am very sad to lose this show :(
I like this place and in couple with the music it should be great
after all, it was fevre dream that inspired me to take the family onto a steamer out of dubuque.
Woot!
Count me in as another Fargo attendee that will be there (as long as it's after the election, I have a Governorship to help win).
I can't wait to see you in November! :)
Although right now I wish Minnesota was nearer: my husband is a free-lance illustrator, working for FFG on their AGOT Living Card Game, a chance of meeting you at a FFG event would be just...WOW!
Though I don't know if the nice weather would be conducive to the writing process.
:)
And I just began Suicide Kings- really like it so far!
I am really eager to experience the Wild Cards universe. Hope the translation won't last too long.
Greets from Italy!
