Grey Days

Strange days here in Santa Fe. One night we get a blizzard that dumps six inches of snow on us, the next day is so bright and warm that the snow is gone by noon. Many grey days, damp, overcast, chilly without being freezing. Winter is holding on.

I cannot seem to shake this crud. Taking vitamin D and C, taking various cold remedies and allergy meds, and all of them help, but I'm still congested and coughing. It's more annoying than anything else. The worst part is how tired it makes me feel. Just when I most need to be shifting into high gear, I have no bloody energy. Not much good work getting done.

Ty is on vacation too, visiting Minnesota with his lovely wife. So stuff is piling up here, and I seem further behind with every passing day.

Plus bad news on various fronts that I cannot talk about.

Ah, don't mind me. I'm just in a fool mood.

I'm going back to the DANCE. I need to kill someone.

Careful, George. You're running out of Starks.

Gargantuan God-like power
Oh fine. You have a cold, so someone else's favorite character bites it. Nice. :) jk.

Feel better! I hope so, or else Dance might end with: Then, Westeros flew into the sun, and everyone died. The End.

The creeping crud is tenacious this year. What is usually a week of misery seems to be extending to two for most of the people I know who've had it. May you start feeling better soon. :(

For what it's worth, the Cthulhu battle-plan scene in your previous post was a real treat. Always great to watch Tyrion strategizing.

double agreed!

We hope the bad tidings will take a turn for the good, and that you'll feel better soon.

Winter's retreating over here inch by stubborn inch.

Rocks fall! Everybody dies!

(Hope you feel better soon.)

Just a mention, I'm not a medical expert however I had similar symptoms, so did my girlfriend, and a number of other people I have known have had them. This isn't actually from a cold, it's something else, I was prescribed antibiotics for it, and my gf was given another type of med. Either way, I would strongly suggest you see a doctor.

I'd like to second sensorglitch's suggestion. The last two times I've failed to shake a cold after some days of self-medicating, I've required a good course of antibiotics to kick it. One visit ended up leading to a bout with a nasty infection that took 6 weeks of drugs to buck, and months before I felt better. See the man/lady in the white coat!

Kill 'em good and dead George!

I mean the germs. Vile, wicked things those germs are!
Mar. 18th, 2010 06:38 pm (UTC)
Sorry, man.
Mar. 18th, 2010 06:39 pm (UTC)
I hope you'll get well soon :3 My cough never died either and it's been for more than a month, so I feel for you D:

I'm going back to the DANCE. I need to kill someone.

You tease. XD Have fun XD

I don't remember who said that first but... "a cold is that disease that lasts a week if you cure it, and seven days if you don't". It'll pass... somehow. Take care, spring is just round the corner!

Please, please, pretty please - Not Arya!

Hope you feel better soon! :)

There goes another Stark.

You need to ask your doctor for a Z Pack and be done with it.

Hope you feel better, George.

Zinc, B-12, Magnesium. For fighting cold, energy and natural healing boost. Get well soon, George.

The best writing advice I was ever given was, "When in doubt, kill something." Make it a good one!
Mar. 18th, 2010 06:50 pm (UTC)
Sorry you feel bad, hope it gets better soon. If you must kill, though, remember--kill Greyjoys!!!! (but not Asha). Or Boltons. Or Bloody Mummers. Or somesuch.
Mar. 18th, 2010 06:54 pm (UTC)
I have the crud, as well. I had to take two days off work, so I can only imagine the hot mess that awaits my return tomorrow.

Be a pal and kill someone for me, too.

Feel Your Pain
I can feel your pain having had many visits to SF as the asset manager for La Posada de Santa Fe Resort.
Mar. 18th, 2010 06:56 pm (UTC)
Great. The only vaguely sympathetic characters left alive are going to be servants for House Florent.

Feel better!!

Glad to hear you're taking Vit D!...just make sure it's enough. Most people need roughly 1000 iu per 25 lbs of body weight from all sources in the winter to reach 50ng/ml 25(OH)D (close to ideal). Lower amounts may be prioritized for calcium metabolism instead of immune reactions.

Also has to be D3 (cholecalciferol, not D2 ergocalciferol) and oil based (softgels, not tablets). And of course you always have to take it, not just when you have colds... takes a couple months for serum levels to peak. Sorry if you already knew that :)

It also has several co-factors Dr. Cannel lists on vitdcouncil:

* magnesium
* zinc
* vitamin K2
* boron
* genestein
* a tiny amount of vitamin A

Here's a bit on vit K2 by Dr. Guyenet:
http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com/2008/06/vitamin-k2-menatetrenone-mk-4.html .
He's written a lot more on it, particularly in relation to CVD.

Magnesium: http://nephropal.blogspot.com/2009/07/magnesium.html

I think some bloody sectarians are really angry. Do you have some bad feelings in your dreams? Watch out, cthulhu attacks :P

Getting serious: I hope you get better. The sooner, the better ;)
