Hear Him Roar

Spain
Jaime Lannister has defeated Cthulhu! He's 2-0.

How's that for an upset!

Next round he has to face a dragon, though. Naomi Novik's Temeraire. Oh, well. Should be good training for when Dany invades Westeros.

I haven't studied the actual brackets, but I hope Jaime gets to face down with Elric at some point.

Your bit of fiction based on the fight I believe was quite convincing. It's only fitting that Jaime won.

Glad to hear it's a WHEN Dany invades Westeros, not an IF.

question is, does he face Temeraire alone, or Temeraire + crew and captain? I imagine just Temeraire is defeatable, but Temeraire with bell- and top-men, as well as riflemen.. I dunno. would be an interesting fight, that's for sure!

So true. A fully rigged war-dragon is quite something to handle. (Love those books ;-)

Yay!!! Go Jaime!!!

Having a bit of a crisis of conscience now as I really, really like Temeraire (whose roar is probably superior to any Lannister lion's, sorry to say that:-)

Does it have to be a straight Win or Lose in this contest? For Temeraire would rather tell Jaime endless stories about dragons and honor (and end up psychoanalyzing his entire family on top of that) until they call it a draw.

Just my 2 cents....

This next match just breaks my heart. You and Novik are my two favorite contemporary authors and the two of your blogs sit next to each other in my bookmarks. Enough so that, despite having followed you regularly for months I created an account to comment.
Frankly, what it comes down to is that we just don't know how Jaime would deal with a dragon. Obviously it's something we hope to see in the future (and my dear God, sir, do we hope to see it) but it just has yet to happen. I hope I don't presume to much to say that my, and perhaps others, votes will be predicated on the weighing in of the authors. Though Mrs. Novik has not yet actually weighed in with a passage the way you have, I for one hope for dueling narratives.

Better a dragon...
... than Polgara. I voted her out so that Jaime would have a better chance. It's just a dragon. (But... were any dragons killed battle in ASOIAF history? And how?)

Re: Better a dragon...
In ASoS, Dany is told that the Targaryen dragons were bred for war, and in war they died. It's implied Balerion the Black Dread was killed in battle during the reign of Jaehaerys the Conciliator, and a number of Targaryen dragons were killed in the course of the civil war called the Dance of the Dragons (but it's feasible most of those were killed by other dragons).

Yeah, that was it. If it wasn't for your hilarious account of what would occur I was going to vote for Cthulhu. Thanks for coming up with a way that Jaime could win!

Dany invades Vesteros? :( Oh, damn, that's a huge spoiler, I didn't know that. I wish I never read this post, but this journal is included into numerous Russian fandom "friend lists", so as long as one reads them, one can't help reading this journal, as well.

Please, please, avoid spoilers next time!

хотя на месте Дени я бы, конечно же, вторглась бы в Вестерос непременно)))
