No Foolin'

hiya hiya hiya
Another tradition bites the dust. (In fandom, anything you do twice is a tradition).

I know, I know, it's April 1st. For the past two years I've made a bogus April Fool's post on this day, but not this year. The day came rushing up on me too fast, I fear. I had a vague notion of announcing that HBO had recast the part of Tyrion, replacing Peter Dinklage with Gary Coleman, but somehow I don't think that would have fooled anyone. Then I thought maybe I could post that William Shatner had been added to the cast as Barristan Selmy... but that would not have flown either.

So I'll have to take a pass. Next year, maybe.

Of course, this being April Fool's day, this means that these things have actually happened, doesn't it?

Being as it's April Fool's, this can all be part of some elaborate ploy on your part to get us to let our guard down, so that you spring your prank upon us later in the day. So be warned that if I see any other posts from you today, I shall remain wary. ;)

Don't feel disappointed! Look at it as an opportunity to spend a whole year planning the best thing ever for next time. :D

Or better yet: I can imagine George claiming ongoing unhappiness with the direction Dance is taking, and announcing he decided to scrap most of it and start over.

Then again, given how, erm, intense the discussion tends to become whenever the word 'dance' comes up in George's posts already, maybe we're better off with the Gary Coleman idea, right.

This is what I was thinking. I think we're all smart enough to catch on, but news might get out erroneously to other sources if he posted something here and people might end up being disappointed.

I, for one, would have laughed. I know if I were in his shoes I would have announced finishing ADWD, but I'm an utter bastard.

I think Alan Moore's 1980's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen prank would have one-upped anything you came up with, so no harm, no foul.

Me too, man.
Last year I had a great prank that worked well. (Told a bunch of friends I was being transferred to London.) This year, I didn't even think about it. It made me sad! It must be an off year for pranking.

Speaking of Shatner, have you seen GQ's amazing interview/profile of Shatner?

A true original, and an American national treasure (no, Canada, you cannot have him back), much as the article indicates.

But Bill Shatner would be a much better Ser Jorah Mormont.
I can just... see him... giving his well-meaning advice *and*... somewhat feeble amorous advances *to*... Princess... Daenerys.

Kvothe is currently beating Jaime on Suvudu and I'm still hoping that you'll have a chance to write a story of their cage match. It would certainly make me forget all about the lack of an April Fool's joke. (I admit voting for Kvothe and Jaime primarily in hopes I'd get to read dueling battle accounts)

I also meant to set the clocks back or something but never got around to it.

I've shared A Game of Thrones with my cousin, grandfather, and a few friends. I really love the series and thanks for your work.

WAY TOO FAST
This year is going by way too fast... I forgot all about April Fools, as a matter of fact I forgot about March itself...

Patiently awaiting the next, and enjoying your blog!!!!!!

Jaime
Off Topic I know, but Patrick Rothfuss wrote a story about the fight against Jaime and now it seems that Kvothe is winning.
We cant let that happen. You need to write something for Suvudu George.

Hurry or it will be the end of the Valonquar....

You gave me a chuckle even without playing a prank. William Shatner would make a great Selmy! Hah! Great image that. Thanks much!

You should have said that the roles of Sansa and Dany were now going to be aged and played by Britney Spears and Mandy Moore helping both musicians grow as actresses and that the role of Arya would be played by Miley Cyris because the pop star/nickid was trying to break her sweet and innocent typecast :)

Suvudu Cage Match Semifinals
Hey George.
Jaime is losing right now, and the vote ends tomorrow. He might benefit from another livejournal link post by you

Help the Kingslayer Slay!

Totally off-topic, as this is no joke: Jaime needs your help! (And someone needs to tell Rothfuss no Westerosi would never bark the expletive, "Good lord!")

On an unrelated note, it would be awesome to see a post about the recently settled Google Book Settlement. That is if you have any strong feelings on it. I'm kind of ambivalent, personally.

Re: Inquiry
Oh. Is that because you haven't heard much about it, or you just don't want to get into it? I think it's one of those things any writer, unpublished or ridiculously famous, should form an opinion on, even if it bores the dickens out of 'em.

Just in case, here are some articles (granted, they are slanted):

1. Ursula Le Guin petitions against Google Settlement
http://www.ursulakleguin.com/GS-Petition.html

2. Justice says Google Book Settlement isn't good enough
http://fictioncircus.com/news.php?id=510&mode=one

I would really enjoy hearing what you think about it, should you decide to comment. Okay, I'll shut up now since this is very OT.

I still laughed at the Gary Coleman as Tyrian joke, and mildly chuckled at the thought of Shatner as Barristan Selmy. Thanks George!
And thanks again for the Jaime vs Cthlulu write-up! Great stuff! I'll be getting to "Warriors" shortly (and preordering your newest anthology).

April Fool's
You should have had one of your helpers post that you were hospitalized after an unsold stack of last year's calendars fell on you. It would have played nicely on people's fear you will die before finishing the series and advances the misfortunes surrounding the calendars.

I am not sure anyone would have believed it, but I don't think anyone would have been confident enough to entirely disbelieve it either.

It's so weird -- so many people seem to have slacked off this April Fools'. Is everyone just tired?

Not that I mind. I hate April Fools' day; I'm way too gullible. But still! Tradition! It's worrisome! (Ok, not really. :-D)
