That Toddling Town

Spain
Off to Chicago tomorrow morning.

C2E2! Greektown!! Funny books!!!

It's all good. Especially the flaming cheese. (Len Wein likes to say that "opaa" is Greek for "the cheese is on fire").

(We won't talk about the alleged pizza).

Hope to see some of you at the con.

Back at the old stand on Tuesday morning.

(P.S. Had a good day writing today. Half the day on the book, half the day on the script. That's something I NEVER do. But today everything seemed to click. Taxes are done too).

((Need more days like today)).

(((Soon))).

Have fun!! And remember to send us a blog update while you're away!

PS. Might we be expecting a big reveal at said con? Hmm? About a certain novel? Hmm? Perhaps a certain special novel being finished with a shelf date? Hmm? Perhaps a certain novel might have a pre orderable special edition with artwork? Hmm? ... okay I know I know wishful thinking right? Well if I'm gonna dream at least I dream big!

"Soon" encompassed in triple perenthesis makes me hopeful. Glad to hear it, GRRM!

Yeah, that soon got me ecited, like it was a 1 word hint at something. But, then I realized it just meant George needs more writing days like this one, and I frowned.

Being Greek and a Chicagoan, I can tell you that saganaki (the flaming cheese) was actually invented in Chicago, at the Parthenon restaurant.

I used to get Saganaki on Crete 30 years ago. It was my impression that it was a Cretan appetizer, since it's hard to find on the mainland. The Cretans don't do the "oopa" thing, either. It's just like Gyros. We used to get those all the time off base, and most places just called them "pitas (or in some cases, gyrospita with no space). I'm not Greek, but I make my own Saganaki when I can find Kasseri cheese at a reasonable price. I also make some mean Tzatziki!

Great day then :) Hope you get a ton more of those right around the corner.

Have fun in Chi-town. I wouldn't even care to guess at the weather but it's gotta feel nice now and then to get out of Santa Fe's heat.

Alleged pizza? I can assure you Ser, it is pizza. Best you'll find without going to the place where it was spawned! Have fun in the windy one, and safe travels!

I think it's funny that people find ways to make your posts cryptic when they're not.

(Watch: now this will be the cryptic post and I'll look silly.)

Optimistic, productive days are some of the best. I'm glad you got to have one, and are looking forward to more - soon.

Alleged Pizza. Pshh.
Amen to that. I say that, outside the boot, the only place in the world with real pizza is NYC.

(((Soon))). Dude, I hope this means what I think it does, despite the parentheses.

it's looking to be beautiful here this week.

some new local awesomes: if you are into medium-nice restaurants at all, i highly recommend province on jefferson and lake. it's pseudo-upscale but shockingly cheap, all organic and sustainable in a leed-certified building, and stunningly well executed. if you'd more of a unfussy-cheap-bite-in-a-cafe sort of person, cafe lula in logan square or nightwood in pilsen (same people) have also proven that hippie food can be really, really freakin good from a foodie/pro/restaurant industry snob perspective, and not just another hippie coffeehouse with ye old hummus plate.

cafe ba ba reeba for tapas and osteria/pizerria via stato for italian are also awesome, and if you've never been, kuma's is a hilarious and amazing divey metal bar with gourmet burgers and a fantastic beer list.

i always tell people coming to chicago to eat :>

It is always a good day when GRRM has a good day.
It's really odd that when you have a good day of writing it makes hundreds of people who read this blog feel good about their day. A splash of hope? A twinge of optimism for the futre? I'm not sure, but keep it up.

My two hopes:

1) Someone gets a picture of you and Jim Shooter together, just so I can geek out. You know he's relaunching the Gold Key books (Dr. Solar and Magnus Robot-Fighter) at C2E2? Kind of hoping they get Barry Windsor-Smith involved somehow, someday.

2) Have a chat with Colleen Doran, get her to illustrate something, anything! She'd do a beautiful job adapting some of the short stories, like "A Song for Lya" or "Bitterblooms" or, heck, Dying of the Light. Or something from ASoIaF, if one must...
