Locus Awards Shortlist

LOCUS has announced the shortlist for its annual awards, and I'm pleased to report that SONGS OF THE DYING EARTH, the Jack Vance tribute anthology I co-edited with Gardner Dozois, has been nominated in the Best Anthology category.

((Three of the five nominees in Best Anthology were edited or co-edited by Gardner, who is also up himself in the Best Editor category. Despite which, he is convinced he is going to lose both awards. That's why we call him Eeyore.))

Neil Gaimain's story for SONGS OF THE DYING EARTH is also a finalist, in Best Short Story, and Vance's autobiography has been nominated in Best Related Book.

It's a *great* antho, and certainly deserves the nod. Though to be honest I had to read a pal's copy b/c the hardcovers are now going for like $100 on Amazon right now, and, well, I gots mouths to feed over here :)

Will it be out in trade paperback at all? I'd like to own it.

In general, a lot of great stuff in most categories on the Locus list. The fact that DJA's Price of Spring didn't make the fantasy novel cut, though, kind of drives me batshit.

Get the British hardcover on Amazon.UK. Those are still going for cover price. They're not as nice as the Subterranean edition, admittedly, but the text is exactly the same.

The Tor edition will be out in the fall.

Congratulations! Was very pleased to see the nominations this morning. Also glad that Vance's memoir was also given a nod, and I kind of hope it wins.

NFL Mock Draft?
GRRM, sorry to put this here but I wanted to put it in a place where you would be most likely to read this.

How about a first annual mock draft in the "Not A Blog?" Perhaps you and your readers might like to take their chances 'on the record' as to who will be picked in the top-10 in Thursday's draft. Trades make a full 32 pick draft almost pointless, but a 10 pick mock draft tends to have some chance for accuracy and it is so much easier to put together.

first off, congratulations. Your friend Gardner is up for 3 awards. That might split the vote on you.

There sure are alot of different Sci-fi/fantasy awards. Hugo, nebula, locus, world fantasy, romantic times, and others.

That's a bit out of context, but TOR.com has an interesting interview with David Peterson about conlanguages and creating Dothraki.
