We got back home last night, after a pleasant weekend at LepreCon. The convention was very small, only half the size of Bubonicon, but the Phoenix fen were a friendly bunch and we had a great time.
I should never go away, though. The amount of stuff that builds up when I leave, even for a short trip like this one, is truly daunting. Hundreds of emails, huge stacks of snail mail (bills, contracts, junk, with a few real letters salted in)... and, for this trip at least, must be a hundred or more new audition tapes for parts both small (Rast, Mord, Jhogo) and large (Lord Tywin, Ser Barristan, Lysa Arryn) in the HBO series. I was keeping up with the auditions pretty well. Now I'm way, way behind...
Well, nothing to do but get into it. I have another convention trip coming up soon, and lots to do before we go.

So when are they going to option Meathouse Man for a movie? Although an awesomely fresh idea in the zombie world, I think it would make a great "b" style movie. But I mean that in a good way. It's hardly cheesy, but it could be a beloved classic of the gore/edgy genre.
the fact that he's older isn't much of a problem IMO because a) he looks younger than his age and b) many in the series are being aged up anyways.
The one I've seen bandied about on some sites that I would LOVE is Terence Stamp as Ser Barristan.
good luck and i must say I am looking forward to the day when I see that there is new material in the fire and ice update section

I'm a 26 boy from Málaga on the South of Spain. Firstly, I wish to encourage you for all the work you are copying with and then, though you look really good in your avatars, I would like to say you to eat bunchs of soy food and salad in order to keep you healthy and unwind yourself. Also I would like to say that some of us cannot wait to see the series finished but we are really dying to have the next book in our hands... Talking about hands, I for instance, have no more nails to bite...
Keep up the good job!
Keep up the good work, Mr. Martin!
I purchased the Heinlein books you recommended. Starting with "Have Spacesuit" and working my way up to the "Moon is a Harsh Mistress." Gonna start on those as soon as I finish Sam Sykes' "Tome of the Undergates." Cheers!
Good luck in plowing through everything. You have my sympathies there.
What are your thoughts on the recent tourism boycott of AZ?
I am personally conflicted like hell; some of my close friends (artists and performers struggling to open a theatre) live and work there in Phoenix, but at the same time I believe in the boycott's cause and think that there is a real power in numbers.
Right or wrong, I'm mainly curious of what your stand on the situation is. There is a real human face on any given side; political action is always easier said than done :/

That to me sounds pretty definitive that Ms. Merchant will not be involved in the production as Daenerys.
:D
I hope you enjoy the con and can relax a bit, Mr. Martin. How do you feel about KC BBQ? Hopefully you'll be able to squeeze in a few BBQ platters while you're out there.
(And truth be told, a writer on a film set is often as useful as nipples on a breastplate. By the time the cameras start to roll, the project rests in the hands of the actors, directors, and showrunners. I am none of those things on GAME OF THRONES)
I may decide to visit the shoot when my own episode -- episode eight -- is being filmed. But even that depends on when and where and what I'm doing at the time. I will likely also drop by Belfast for a day or two after Octocon in Dublin come October, since I'll be in Ireland anyway. (If we're shooting in Belfast at that time, and not on some distant location). But only for a day or three.
Also, FWIW, I am now informed that the start of principle photography has been pushed back to late July.
My son gave me back my copy of SUICIDE KINGS this week and said it was great, and like me, he's looking forward to FORT FREAK. (His mother, though, is not as enthusiastic...ah, but that's a conversation for another time!)
