a great addition for my gaming table.
I will order it in just a few minutes.
Have you had a chance to actually play the game, George?
I hope HBO is as good at adapting your greatness as Green Ronin is.

God Komarck is a master of his craft if I ever saw one.

Thanks for uploading this hi res version George, it's wonderful to see the brushstrokes and details. :)

Awesome picture. It would be cool if HBO thought about using Komarck as a conceptual artist for the TV show, as New Line did with Alan Lee and John Howe on the LORD OF THE RINGS movies.

Roleplay gritty goodness
Not only a worth while roleplay gaming addition for game nights.

But also great to see Michael being used a lot more for ASOIAF stuffs.

Thanks for the high res image also. Its beautiful. I should also thank Komarck!

I don't roleplay, but I can surely appreciate new Komarck art. Here's hoping we'll keep getting ASoIaF art from him for a looong time :)

Awesome artwork, nice attention to detail concerning Aerys's long nails. But am I the only to notice that Jaime's scabbard is on the wrong hip? The only reason I caught that is because I just finished the chapter where Jaime's thinking about how awkward it is to draw left handed, and how he drew across the body from the opposite hip when he was whole. I will however buy this tome just for the source material.

You were not the only one to notice that, don't worry.

Awesome! I'm such a fan of AD&D + ASoIaF, so this is just perfect for me:) only bad thing is i cannot get this in Serbia:(

Best of luck:)

Now I wish I didn't have another game going on, or that I had more friends into this 'verse.

Komarck is the best! Awesome!

Can't imagine a cooler RPG.

Komarck gets all the details right, for sure. But it's the mood that he captures best of all. I LOVE this work in the throne room. But (and I will be vague to preclude the sharing of spoilers), I would imagine Jaime would have a more tortured and/or resigned look on his face, rather than this more vicious self-satisfaction.

Oh cool, thanks for the info.
Hope i can get it soon in Japan.

Komarck's sort of the definitive ASoIaF illustrator right now, I think. Here's a brief gallery of his work on the Game of Thrones card game, which probably has the single most impressive depiction of Jaime Lannister I've yet seen. And you can order prints.

I hope eventually he'll get his 2009 Calendar art up there and maybe sell prints if rights issues are sorted out.

GREAT book.
I registered at LJ just to post comments here :D

I've had the book for 2-3 weeks now (preordered it) and it IS wonderful. I recommend it to everyone running an ASIF campaign, of course, but also to anyone interested in a pseudo-official ASIFpedia. It has LOTS of information about Westeros; you could locate almost all the tiny bits of data in the books, but you've got it all comprehensively organized here. And some illustrations are gorgeous (I love the Hound).

By the way, some info about people and places seems to be original, at least partially (such as a lengthy description of Highgarden which I think was never given in the books). I think I read you revised the Campaign Guide, so is this supposed to be canon, non-canon, or somewhere in between? :)

Re: GREAT book.
From my experience of working on Guardians of Order's RPG, GRRM has provided the GR material to work with ... but until it's actually published in his own books, it can't quite be considered canon. It's changeable canon.

The description of Highgarden's structure, the marriage of Rhaenyra Targaryen to Lyonel Strong and his fate and that of their three sons, are all things I can attest definitely came from GRRM. There's a few other details like that in there. But ... until it's actually published in something GRRM has written, beware. :) Much the same goes for any details GRRM offers in in this collection of correspondence, and we've a disclaimer to that effect.

We have an extensive collection of information at the Concordance, whose structure may look a wee bit familiar to you as GR's RPG (and, for that matter, GoO's) liked how we have it structured and asked to use it in their publications.

(And while I'm talking about it, hats off to Jesse Scoble (who we worked with at GoO and who was involved in GR's book) and Green Ronin for a fantastic job on the book, according to all reports.)

Has anyone played the game? I've only played old school D&D, d20, and HERO system, but I'm interested in trying ASoIaF. Thanks for your thoughts.

High res <3
Love the high resolution cover image, I hope we get to see more from of them from Michael Komarck! Also, are the long fingernails common among Westeros nobility or unique to Aerys?

Re: High res <3
It's noted in AFfC that Aerys became so paranoid in his last months that he refused to let anyone barber, shave, or clip his nails. Full-on crazy.

Re: High res <3
Oh of course, how did I forget that! Anyway it's great seeing details like that in the artwork.

If only I had people to role play with... I've never really done
it before, but seems like it'd be fun.

I'm interested in what classes there are, and if there is a role
to be a dire wolf (although I suppose that can always be
incorporated anyway). ^-^

Jolly Good!

Does he do some of the artwork for the card game as well?

i wish there were better places online to see komarck's ASoIaF art. He has some on his website and you can find some searching google, but i wish there were a bigger collection somewhere. All his art for the series has been stunning.
