I suggest you to give a try. Well.. when I started reading novels in English, it was also pretty slow and painful - had to have my notebook constantly open with dictionary to check out all those cool and fancy words :). I think it would be best to start with rereading the whole series in English as then you already have clue what is happing in the chapter.
