Ser Ilyn Payne

I've been looking over tapes of half a dozen actors auditioning for the part of Ser Ilyn Payne in the HBO series. The strangest auditions I've ever watched, since all the actors do is stand there and react silently to the lines being read at 'em.

No decision on Ser Ilyn yet, BTW. But soon, I think.

Meanwhile, though, the talented folks over at Dark Sword Miniatures are about to issue their own version of Ser Ilyn, sculpted by Jeff Grace. Here's a couple of peeks at the green:

More details on Ser Ilyn and several more new Dark Sword releases can be found on their website at http://darkswordminiatures.com/

And... back on the TV series... look for a whole bunch of new casting announcements soon.

May I recommend you watch Vinny Jones' performance in the 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' remake for a 'tall, silent and looming' type? (If you haven't already, of course.)

I didn't see that one, but if it's the same guy who was in the (flawed and totally over-the-top but interesting) Clive Barker adaptation Midnight Meat Train where he played another silent loomer, then hell yes. That was some great silent looming-- there's a nicely directed bit in that movie where he manages to be very scary by just standing there doing nothing and all you can see is his back. In fact I can barely remember what the guy's face looks like in the movie, because the rest of his physical presence was so intense.

Use the guy from Rome
Clearly you need my advice because I have no experience in any entertainment field whatsoever, but in Rome, the guy who was about to kill Titus Pullo in the arena when Vorenus jumps in to save Pullo pretty much has the part nailed. You remember him, he was really tall and had a mace fashioned in a skull shape. Maybe he's too tall (he seemed freakishly tall) but he's seriously already nailed the character. Just sayin.

Man, that is dead on for how I pictured him.

What scale is this? Can it be used with FFG's Battle of Westeros?

How about someone like Robert Davi? He’s got some piercing eyes and pockmarks…
