Whip and Hammer

The bloody lash knows what it's like to be dead. He's met his waterloo and been a casualty, and seen his share of apparitions too. The horny-headed hammerhand is older than you might have thought, but too young to need a pacemaker, though he might have ridden on the ferry with Gerry. Another friend of our kraken's sister, he knows the doctor and the wizard too. Damned if he doesn't play what he calls football (not the real kind).

(Ooops, screwed up the clues again. Fixed now. Resume).

Yeah gotta be. He was in Waterloo Road and Casualty and according to IMDB, he's going to be in something called "Strawberry Fields", which ties in with all the Liverpool references in the clue.

The last one will have something to do with The Damned United (a film about real football, where you play with your feet :p)
Timothy Spall? Appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire with David Tennant.

Hrm ... Joseph Dempsie. Appeared on Lily Allen and Friends, plays a good friend of Merlin in the UK show, was in a Doctor Who episode, and in The Damned United.

I think that's our Gendry.

Oh, and he's from Liverpool, too. Didn't quite make the connection until I saw Merseyside mentioned. I guess Mersey (Gerry & the Pacemakers "Ferry Cross the Mersey") is the river that empties there.

I've got as far as Jason Salkey, who died as Rfileman Harris in Sharpe's Waterloo, and played with Natalia Tena in About a Boy. But he played frisbee, not football of any variety.

Hah, I was thinking of Sharpe, too, but if it's any consolation (it was to me!), Philip Martin Brown was in (one episode of) Sharpe too....

Got 'em!
Pretty sure over at WiC that Joe Dempsie = Gendry, and Shane Zaza = Jhogo.

I like Joe Dempsie, but over at Winter-is-Coming we seem to have hit on Elyas Gabel, who fits the clues a bit closer than Shane Zaza.

So...Joe Dempsie for Gendry, Shane Zaza for Jhogo?
