The Return of the Phipps

Spain
If the old gods, the new gods, and American Airlines all cooperate, Parris should be returning to Santa Fe this evening. Hoorah! I hear she had a great time in Ireland, but she's been sorely missed on this side of the water.

I won't worry about the gods (if nothing else you can bribe them with a freshly slaughtered bull), but the American Airlines.

Good luck for her safe return.

Especially with all the stuff going on over in UK, I wish her even more luck with getting back home without losing her sanity.

Gwen came home safe to me today. She came back from Ireland via a driving tour through England and a flight to Montreal through Heathrow. She phoned me to make me know she was safe despite all that stuff. So it is possible to survive! If Parris is flying directly from Ireland, the stuff in England shouldn't affect her trip much.

Well the airports here in the US are going all bananas too because of it, especially since 4th of July is this week. I live close to DC so our airports are getting extra security at the moment.

Thank goodness I don't fly at all. (If I can't get there in 2 days drive, it's not worth going)

*fingers crossed* that all will be smooth -- we'll drink a toast to appease the Gods of Travel. You may wish to fix up the garden hose to shower the front walk while she arrives -- after hearing about the torrential downpours, I fear she'll be disoriented with the NM aridity. ;-)

Safe travels to your lady love. I am so glad to hear that she had a good time in Ireland. Sounds like a great place to visit. Especially if seeing good friends is on the itinerary. :)

On an older note........
I don't mean to interrupt you or your writing but if we can't get a ADWD update, can we at least get HBO update? Is it possible that maybe you could get Mr. Benioff or Mr. Weiss to post something on here? Is the series even a definite yet? I know that in Hollywood nothing is definite & that when a company like HBO options it doesn't really mean something WILL be made. What it means is that for now nobody BUT HBO can make ASoIaF. If Weiss & Benioff do still intend to charge ahead on this do they at least have a projected season? 2009? 2010? Have they contacted Peter Dinklage yet? Is he available? Just anxious here.

Hopefully there won't be a problem - here in Scotland it's only really the Glasgow flights that are badly affected.

Sounds though like she's had a great time from her updates. And you'll get to here ALL about them when she gets back I'm sure :)

I'm sorry, but American Airlines is not affiliated with God. Judging from our last two trips with them, they are affiliated with Hell, unless, of course, they've had a recent managerial change.

Wow, I can actually relate to this. My fiancee is in England right now and I miss him like crazy. Trying to plan an impossible intercontinantal wedding in the meantime...

Have a great time when she returns :) and hope all is well with you.

And you guys who just can't stop pestering George about writing need to lay off a bit and let him be just a man for a minute. Light! His life doesn't exist completly for your pleasure. Honestly, some people.

You cannot rush the creative process. Leave him be!

Looking forward to INCON this weekend. Woohoo! See you there George :)

A Wet Affair
Ask her did she enjoy the virtually ridiculous weather we have been receiving for the past two months - I know my country is a glistening wet emerald on a natural day, but even we are a touch shocked by this tumultuous soaking torrent. I suspect she may have enjoyed her time in-doors for much of her stay.

I am quite glad for you that she is coming back and well, she should be back by now... darn, well I hope she had a safe trip.

I know that you must get off subject replies all of the time, but I don't know how else to ask you. I apologize if this seems rude or is quite annoying. I just got wind of the HBO realization of the A Song of Ice and Fire series which is very exciting. I am a seventeen year old actor and was wondering if there was anything you could tell me that might help me get a part (however small or insignificant) in the series. I am willing to anything and everything in my power to be a part of what will surely be an amazing project. My email is 'hisorpheus@gmail.com'. I don't know if you will reply to this, but thank you anyways for reading this and being such an all around wonderful writer and person.

Glad you're not so lonely
I'm more the technology writer type (http://www.pocketnow.com, http://www.geardiary.com and http://www.wugnet.com), and have been professionally writing in that arena for about 11 years. However, I know how having a loved-one away can effect the creative juices. I'm glad that Parris (sp?? didn't mean to blow it...) is back and hope she had a wonderful trip.

I am a HUGE fan of Fire and Ice, and am waiting with a worm on my tongue (baited breath) for Dance to get finished. I must admit that I read thru Feast much too quickly. I may just have to go back and start the series over again while waiting for Dance to finish...

If you ever have computer or PDA problems of any type, please feel free to give me a shout. I'd be happy to help out in any way I can.

Wishing you gobs of creative productivity...

Ireland/NFL
its cool that ye're seeming frequent visits to the wesht of Eire are great craíc and all but we never get to see you and i never hear of you visiting irish cons. not to say i'm asking you to do this anytime soon because you got work to do and frankly its football season coming up and as a fellow NJ ex-pat i 'm left with envy that i can't Tivo the giants and the green machine kicking ass this year. but i do get some coverage of the beloved mets/yankees kicking ass/being mediocre this summer. thats right new jersey people can root for both teams just fucking deal with it there's no rule saying "were not allowed to" or any such bull shit

so to sum up after you finish dance and go on a spate of con visits plase drop by one in Ireland. or play a game at our local game shop if you want to be low key. please keep the NFL posts coming its acctually the main way i find out about my beloved Jets/Giants. its pissed really hard in ireland the past month so make sure you get Parris warm when she gets home.

Re: stop pissing around and start writing
You are a disgusting excuse for a human being. How dare you come in here and comment on a personal post about a man happy that his SO will soon be home just to get your rocks off about finishing Dance.

How bout you get your ass out of mommy's basement and spend a little time in the sunshine and GET A LIFE!

Re: stop pissing around and start writing
I agree with Balefont. In addition, I would suggest that if you really want to read the next great fantasy book you WRITE IT YOURSELF. Maybe that would give you a little empathy of what a writer goes through (I have written a couple small pieces and tried a novel that petered out).

Down time is needed for a writer to allow his mind to recuperate. Sometimes you get sick of what you are writing and need a break. Working on other stuff is a great way to prevent writers block.

As for caring about his fans, I have rarely met an author as accesable as GRRM. I know you think it is a crime that he have a life other than pleasing you but get over it.

Good to hear...perhaps you can now relax and get that rest you need.
I've found that people sleep best when they are happy, and for a man that means being with the women he loves. In your case it is good for everyone in that you will get better sleep and be more energetic...perhaps even finish Dances With Dragons. I think it's time to tidy everything up don't you? Get it out of the way so you can move to bigger and better things.

Well...OK...make sure all the stories are properly wrapped up, but I want to finish this saga before the end of the year. Please?
