wedding guest

Hiya, kids. Heh, heh, heh.

Olivier as Big Daddy? Well, no, but sort of. Dunk found him annoying. Harry had dealings with him, Jason with a namesake. He's done Dickens, Shakespeare, Thackeray, Chaucer, and Pratchett, and might have run into our dog as well.

I'm thinking someone who's played Laurence Olivier, and has worked with Harry Lloyd and possibly Rory McCann.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:03 pm (UTC)
Played Olivier? Or shared a character with him? HMMM
Nov. 23rd, 2010 07:47 pm (UTC)
Christopher Lee as Aemon or Aerys II?
Nov. 23rd, 2010 07:49 pm (UTC)
Lord Walder Frey?
Richard Briers?
Nov. 23rd, 2010 07:54 pm (UTC)
Just a shot in the dark but:
David Warner as Walder Frey?

If not, that would still be really cool!

Re: Just a shot in the dark but:
David Warner always plus super-evil guys (and does them SO well) - Time after Time, Tron, Time Bandits (EVIL!). Walder Frey isn't evil as much as he is petty and proud. Dunno. :)

The folks at WiC are thinking David Bradley for The Late Lord Frey
Nov. 23rd, 2010 07:59 pm (UTC)
I don't know if this is just wishful thinking on my part, but some of the clues fit -- I really hope you're talking about Derek Jacobi!

not related to this but...
just watched the new post on the weapons on the hbo site, and if Donal Noye hasn't been cast yet, I think Tommy Dunne would be perfect... :)

I've never been so giddy about a tv show before...!

Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:42 pm (UTC)
Re: not related to this but...
Alas, Tommy is not an actor. And he has one arm too many. Aside from that, he'd be great.

Alas, alas, Donal Noye will not appear in the show. At least not in season one.

If it is David Bradley (the farmer with the sea mine in HOT FUZZ, which is where he appeared with Rory 'Sandor/YARP' McCann), that's a brilliant choice. I was thinking of him previously as Craster, but he'd be a great Walder Frey as well.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:26 pm (UTC)
Was also in Harry Brown with our Jorah (although they didn't have any scenes together)

Great Movie: If Michael Caine was The Punisher.
Nov. 24th, 2010 12:31 am (UTC)
I concur.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:16 pm (UTC)
I'm wondering if it's someone who has played Olivier in a movie somewhere (he's been a character many times, played by many actors).
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:19 pm (UTC)
Re:the wedding guest
Ah, super tricky. That's got to be David Bradley, not sure who else has been in a version of Vanity Fair and a Pratchett series (Color of Magic)...pretty clever not mentioning JK Rowling and Mr. Filch. Also, you are one of the few fantasy authors who can type in the same room with Terry Pratchett. For this, you deserve honor.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:36 pm (UTC)
It has to be David Bradley (Harry Lloyd played a character called JASON bradley in a tv movie called Vital Signs), plus all the aforementioned clues.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:41 pm (UTC)
Although I'd love it to see Pete Postlethwaite involved (the Jason clue had me thinking), I'm going with David Warner as well. Which would be great.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:52 pm (UTC)
I'll have to line up with the David Bradley line here... his trivia line on IMDB says:

"He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1991 (1990 season) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for "King Lear" at the Royal National Theatre."

Now, "ran into our dog here" - that means he's run into the sandor clegane - which means he's been at Kings Landing...

Looking at him playing Finch... he sure looks a lot like... Ser Ilyn Payne.

How'd I do?
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:52 pm (UTC)
..was my first choice, but none of the other clues matched up.

So perhaps it is David Bradley. We'll know soon enough I suppose.

Walder Frey at last. Here´s hoping we also get news for Roose Bolton and Podrick Payne for Season 1. :-)
Nov. 23rd, 2010 10:24 pm (UTC)
My guess is that they'll hold back Roose and Podrick until Season 2 for reasons of cost. Podrick they can introduce in S2 easily enough (maybe he gets assigned to Tyrion in King's Landing rather than earlier), whilst perhaps Roose Bolton and his troops show up a bit later. Bolton in particular is a great role for a bigger-name actor.
Nov. 24th, 2010 10:52 am (UTC)
I think so, but is a shame: i would like so much seeing Bolton in the first season. I think i can wait until the second for Payne, but Roose bolton... Well, i guess you´re right.

And yes, Bolton must be played by a great actor.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 10:56 pm (UTC)
If Jason Isaacs gets cast as Roose Bolton I will probably die of happiness.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 09:01 pm (UTC)
I think you guys have missed an obvious choice -- Kenneth Brannagh, who had "dealings with Harry" as Gilderoy Lockhart.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 09:15 pm (UTC)
Krusty the clown?
Nov. 23rd, 2010 10:03 pm (UTC)
Bill Nighy as Walder Frey!!!!!

Nominated for an Olivier (no, but sort of); Harry Potter movies as Scrimgeour (dealings with Harry); in Hot Fuzz with Rory McCann (run into our dog); was in some sort of TV show or something called Canterbury Tales (Chaucer); I'm sure he's done Shakespear, etc...

Dude, everything fits! :-D If I figured this out, I'll be so pleased with myself its disgusting.
Nov. 23rd, 2010 10:50 pm (UTC)
I'm convinced you're right. :)
Nov. 23rd, 2010 11:13 pm (UTC)
I can't find any Terry Pratchett in Nighy's credits, unless he did an audio book or something, but googling isn't turning up anything for me, either.

Nighy would be great, but I don't think it's him.

Big Daddy?
It's also possible the "Big Daddy" clue may refer to someone who's played the character Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof...
Nov. 24th, 2010 12:39 am (UTC)
Re: Big Daddy?
I wondered about that too.

(Incidentally, apropos of nothing, I always pictured Peter Vaughan as Walder Frey...)

i believe the clue about "might have run into our dog as well" would mean we should cross reference the guy playing Sandor, as the two might have done some screen time together already elsewhere. and i love the idea of "Argus" being Walder Frey!! He he he

Re: wedding guest
David Bradley was in Hot Fuzz, which Rory Mcann (the Hound) was also in, but I don't think he saw Mcann's character in the film: 'might have run into our dog...'
Nov. 24th, 2010 02:41 am (UTC)
Has Greatjon Umber been cast yet?
I don't have a clue who the actor might be but the character sounds more like the Greatjon than the late lord Frey. Walder is a prolific daddy, but he's anything but big.
Nov. 24th, 2010 04:02 am (UTC)
Okay, you nailed another one... some of you, anyway.

Yes, the role is Walder Frey, Lord of the Crossing. The Late Lord Frey, wedding caterer of infamy, who annoyed Dunk when just a child in "The Mystery Knight." And the actor is DAVID BRADLEY, best known for his portrayal of Argus Filch in the Harry Potter films. Who was presumably named after Argus the shipwright, who built the ARGO for a lad named Jason once upon a time.

Bradley has also appeared in works by all the aforementioned writers, and crossed paths with our Hound, Rory McCann, in HOT FUZZ.

Good work, all.
Nigel Bradley

Well, as Frey would say

Really glad to see that he didn't get pushed back to season two.
