It's snowing.

On Jon. On the krakens. On me.

We all slog onward.

Finished a chapter a few days ago. Revised another. Then re-revised it.

The days go too fast, the work too slowly. But onward.

Snow, Snow... Summer?
It's good to hear that you're making progress with Kong, I'd love to see snow, where I live it doesn't snow even in winter, but not having to worry about the Others destroying my hometown has it's good side I guess

It could be worse...it could be corn falling from the sky instead of snow. XD Good thing our weather isn't dictated by ravens!

Apparently he worked on two chapters. One involving Jon and the Wall, and another involving some Ironborn (either Asha, or Victarion, or Euron - luckily not Aeron, as he has been moved to WINTER) or real krakens. If it's really snowing in the Ironborn chapter, then my guess would be that it is a chapter involving Asha or Euron, as Victarion should be off to Slaver's Bay now, and I'd be really surprised if it would be snowing this far in the south.

*Hugs* You can do it! Slow but steady wins the race you know. ;)

Ohhh, I wish I could see some snow..

I am proud of you, G. You'll get there.

In totally unrelated news, I wanted to say thanks for blurbing Robin Hobb back in the day. I picked up the first book in the Farseer trilogy based solely on the Martin seal of approval on the cover and have been in love with her stories ever since. My undying gratitude is yours, sir.

Also, keep in mind that once this book is finished you still have (at least) one more to go. It's not as much a big monkey on your back as a barrel of big monkeys.

And, lest you forget...you are the one that chose to put a monkey on yourself. Not just any monkey even...you went out and grabbed the biggest monkey you could find. And, that's why we love you...you are the hero that stepped out with pen in hand to subdue the giant monkey. Keep at him...you got him on the run now.

Two more to go after this one. Not one. (I wish).

But first Kong. Never look at tomorrow's monkey until today's is off your back.

Do you ever see ASOIAF becoming a shared universe (a la Wild Cards) in which other authors will spin tales with the rich assemblage of characters they would have to work with?

Not EVERY story will be completely resolved by series' end, will they?

I am in the midst of my fourth re-read of the entire series since AFfC. Each time I discover new nuances, new turns of phrase that leave me giddy as a schoolgirl, new hints and foreshadowings that I missed the previous times, and ever more reasons to anticipate the final volumes. But as a wise person once wrote, "Every you time you ask when the next book is coming out, GRRM kills a Stark." So I won't ask. :) Just know that your amazing story keeps so many of us enthralled year by year, even as we wait. Thank you for writing it for us all.

Thanks for the status update...
And I'd always heard it was "Whenever you ask GRRM about when it's coming out, he adds another one of Robert's bastards to the narrative."

Just realised its been so long since I read these I can't remember anything that happens. Not sure if I should reread now or wait for the next book and reread the whole set, or at least the whole set so far.

grrm works and wrighting
I am writing this to give my support to a great writer, but only in the sense that a person that believes can.Weather the cause of the delay are from a mareade knot, writers block or just because you needed time for your self.I thank you for the work you have done and hope that the HBO series will bring forth the blizzard that brings winter."WINTER IS COMING". You must put the coals on the fire and burn bright in a way only you can.burn bright through the long nite.

Not to say I haven't been looking forward to your next book more than any other book or series I have ever read, but I really agree with I would have rather it out late or way late like it has become, than to have it rushed or with continuity problems or minor chronology errors. I think you posess witty diaglouge and unique take on character devolpment, but much more than that you have great story twists and turns, that keep suprising me, and if it takes more time for your creative mind to work out kinks and keep the quality high then I encourage it. I read "Game" in '99 and I understand how the story grew in the telling so the books wont be produced as quick as in the begining when you had it more worked out. I feel bad so many people don't see these things, but you must feel some sense of pride that you encourage such strong feelings among fans, and readers alike. I can't believe how this story has evolved, and all the merchandise and the show that has come of it. I feel like I am a fan of something truly special and I hope you feel the same and more as the creator.

In a more recent post you mentioned: "Might have an exciting announcement {Jan. 9 in LA} as well. Maybe two. But don't quote me on that"

(Oops, I guess I just quoted you on that)
Am I the only one hoping these exciting announcements and the recently completed chapter(s) might be somehow related?

I'm re-reading the series (as eBooks this time) to refresh myself for the next installment. And I'm glad I am since so many of the details are hazy. I rarely read books twice and I'm enjoying this time around almost as much as the first.

My first reading was when Feast of Crows was published and I'm guessing by the pace of releases I'll need to re-read them twice more. Maybe I'll get the audio books for the third go-round.

Slow and steady win the race, Mr. Martin. I'll happily wait another decade to hear this story the way YOU want it told.

The day you announce the release date for DWD, I'm asking for that and the following day off of work. Actually, given how merciless you can be when it comes to your characters, I'll probably schedule a third day off for emotional recovery.

Sanchez is obviously a GRRM fan
Whenever you complete a chapter, the Jets win, clearly because Sanchez is buoyed up by the news. Conversely, whenever he hears that you're having a tough time with a POV, he throws a high slow pass into triple coverage.
