Home Again

I'm back at home in Santa Fe, after five days in LA for the TCA and Vroman's signing.

The LA trip was great for me. Yes, it was tiring, and I faded a lot faster than before my hospital stay... but it gave my spirits a huge boost to become George the Writer once again, after the dehumanizing experience of being George the Patient. The TCA was an amazing experience... seeing the new trailer, doing all the interviews (many on video, clips from which you'll doing be seeing in the future of CNN, E, Sky, and all the other channels that sat me down for questioning), and of course the big panel. That last one I did with David and Dan, Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, and Peter Dinklage. What a rush.

The Vroman's signing was also amazing. I've heard various estimates of turnout... but considering that it was sort of a last-minute thing, the number of readers who showed up was staggering. I'm sorry we had to cut off inscriptions halfway through the queue, but it was the only was to make certain everyone got at least one book signed.

And all the readers were so kind. I have the best fans in the world. I appreciate all of your good wishes.

Anyway, I'm much stronger now than when I left, and getting better every day... but the work has piled up as well, so tomorrow my nose goes back on the grindstone. For a few hours, anyway. Parris and my docs agree, no more twelve-hour days for a while. So posts here may be less frequent than before. Kong comes first.

Happy you're feeling better!

It was absolutely fantastic meeting you on Sunday. I'm hugging my signed books as I type this (which makes typing quite difficult, I'll have you know! Hehe).

Seriously though, what a great day. So glad you were able to make it, and even more glad you are feeling better!

Much Love,

After seeing a few different pics like this, I think I'm starting to understand why George enjoyed his trip!

You know you've been spending too much time training dog when you read a line like "Kong comes first" and your immediate response is to wonder why your favorite author is writing about doggie chew toys. Of course, now I'm wondering what Kong would do with a very large Kong, and whether he'd rather stuff it with bananas or Fay Wray, a clear indication that I need sleep, or possibly psychiatric care.

Anyway, glad you're feeling better, and may you never confuse your Kongs.

Glad you had a great time. Take care of yourself, bud.

And congrats on the Jets giving football fans the opportunity to see the Manningface so early in the playoffs.

Good to hear you're on the mend.

Very much looking forward to GoT on the small screen and the delayed big announcement.

I'm glad the signing and everything went well. It must be pretty exciting doing all of that publicity over something you have created. I just finished reading "A Feast for Crows", very excellent read. I don't understand why everyone gave you so much criticism over it. I enjoyed the book as much as the others, it provided a great deal of content surrounding Jamie and Cersi Lannister.

Glad you are getting some much deserved rest, and hopefully you can finish Dance soon, I can't wait to see what you have waiting for me in your adventures in Westeros.

Yay getting better. Rest as appropriate, and also when in doubt whether it's appropriate.

Glad to hear it went well!

Really, really happy you were feeling well enough to make the trip and that it was a success! We were really worried about you there for a while.

Congrats on at least one of your teams making it to the NFL playoffs, too, much as it pains me to wish the Jets success :->

Yes, good luck to the Jets. The Dolphins... blah.

What do you think of the Sparano situation, smofbabe? They tried to find a replacement but it was a no-go, so they're stuck with him. Although I saw a journalist the other day suggesting that the real problem was the offensive coordinator.

Not sure I buy that, but Henning certainly fell on his sword (or was pushed onto it? I don't know), so we'll see what a new offensive coordinator will bring to the mix.

good news
it's good to hear you had lots of fun and that you are feeling much more healthy!
But remind yourself... you can only kick kongs ass if you ARE healthy, so do yourself a favor and go slow on yourself.

take it easy.
I was uneasy when you said you were still going to LA. I am glad you had a good time, but Please do take it easy and get enough rest. Healthy George is more important than Ice and Fire. Just barely though. JK ;)

Laugh often.

Far be it from me to correct you, but I think as far as your fans are concerned, Kong comes second. Your health, and your family, comes first. Glad to hear you're on the mend.

There's the news that you can be the GoH of Russian RosCon that will be held on the border of March and April near Moscow. Will you go there?

Greetings from Estonia (I ams the guy that interviewed you in Tallinn :)

Great seeing you again George! Thank you for taking the time to hang with the Socal BwB. Hope we see you again real soon.

Sounds like a great time, though it must start to feel repetitive after a bit, sitting down for one interview after another.

I noticed that someone thinks TCA could be a goldmine for them, though, if this is any evidence!

I don't get it...
The whole point of getting an autographed copy of [something] is the sentimental value. Sure, maybe after many years the original owner passes on or whatever, but to just turn around and sell it off of ebay like that...I don't see the point in buying it.

300 dollars for a trinket signed for a person to whom the inscriptions mean nothing. No thanks.

Welcome back, Mr GRRM! Glad you feel better. Greetings from a your Italian fan. Thank you for the great work you are doing!

glad to hear that LA went so well, George. May the mending continue!
Jan. 12th, 2011 02:26 pm (UTC)
Yes, George, please stay out of hospitals!!

My countdown clock to GoT says 95 Days 13 Hours 34 Minutes & 3 Seconds, give or take an hour.

Thank you.

Many thanks for doing the signing despite the rigors of recovery and travel, I really appreciate it and I know everyone near me in line was just as excited.

Was indeed a pleasure to meet you. Got stuck in the long line due to an accident, but saw several math wiz's leave early due to their calculations on not reaching us. The fact that you cleared the house says much about you. Also glad you're health again. Cheers.

I'm very glad to hear you're doing better. I'd only suggest that you put yourself first and Kong, et al. second for a time. As much as we all must want to crack open that sweet, sweet binding, I think we'd all agree that your own well being should come first. Best of wishes from another fan!
Jan. 12th, 2011 07:28 pm (UTC)
Good, sounds like you deserve some serious rest!
Jan. 12th, 2011 07:31 pm (UTC)
Keep getting better!

Of interest to your Irish and UK readers: Sky TV have announced a new TV channel, Sky Atlantic, which is their collaboration-with-HBO channel. First teaser on the advert was Game of Thrones! Shiny!

Great tidings
It is good to hear that you are back home and on the mend. I will follow with interest any news that are bound to trickle once the interviews start appearing on mainstream television shows. Over at Winter-Is-Coming.net, the coverage ot the TCA as well as the book signing has been reported in great detail and with a lot of humour and originality, they are doing a great job supporting you sir and the series-to-be.

Once again I wish you all the best, a speedy recovery, be well always and take care! A belated Happy New Year 2011 for you, your wife and the rest of your family and friends!

PS Today I am a very happy nerd, I just got my HBO-Game Of Thrones t-shirt (the one with the raven and "Winter-Is-Coming" incription), plus I am stoked with the "Ice And Fire" calendar...I can barely control myself from jumping ahead and seeing all the art work, but...it would feel like cheating...LOL, still, I can see the little preview drawing for February in the lower right hand corner, and it is Storm's End, and it looks magnificent, just as Winterfell looks now in January. Great work by Ted Nasmith!
