Cool New Maisie Video

... on the HBO site and YouTube.

The latest installment in the "Artisans" series.

Maisie is amazing. As are Sophie and Isaac, who play Sansa and Bran. The kids haven't been featured in any of the teasers or trailers to date, but I think you're going to love them once the show hits the air.

Needle needafied?
Maisie is doing a great job! Small gripe, but is it me or has needle gotten shorter and even more.. needle like as the hilt's gone; can't exactly slash with a blade like that.

Re: Needle needafied?
The TV show has gone with something pretty explicitly in the style of a small sword, which is certainly not what was described in the novel. Valyrian Steel's version, with GRRM's direct input, looked more like this in Maisie's hands. (That said, while some small swords relied purely on the point, I think most non-ceremonial examples have edges, so they could give a nasty cut.)

I have a feeling that there was a more practical reason for the cut-down version. Maisie is not left handed, so she needed a lighter blade to help her learn to do the swordwork in the film.

It actually fits with how I've always envisioned needle. The "Braavos Blade" always called to mind a Rapier, such as a swashbuckler might use. I think it's perfect.

There's a hilt there - it's just a little hard to see since Jon Snow's hand is in the way. It actually puts me more in mind of this:

...which would work, since the technology of the period seems to be a little early for true rapiers.
