Second Season!!!

Just received from HBO:

LOS ANGELES, April 19, 2011 – Following strong critical and viewer response to the series’ April 17 debut, HBO has renewed GAME OF THRONES for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

“We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers,” said Lombardo. “This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership.”

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” by George R.R. Martin, GAME OF THRONES follows kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and noblemen as they vie for power in a land where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime.

Among the early critical raves, TV Guide has called the show “a crowning triumph” and “brilliant,” while the Los Angeles Times termed GAME OF THRONES “a great and thundering series,” as well as “wild and bewitching.” The Hollywood Reporter praised the “excellent storytelling, superb acting and stunning visual effects,” and the New York Post observed that the “art directing, acting and incredible sets are as breathtaking as the massive scope of the series.”

The gross audience for the premiere night of GAME OF THRONES on the main HBO channel was 4.2 million viewers.

The season one cast includes (in alphabetical order): Mark Addy, Alfie Allen, Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Harry Lloyd, Richard Madden, Rory McCann, Jason Momoa, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

Season one credits: GAME OF THRONES is executive produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss; co-executive producers, Carolyn Strauss, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis, Ralph Vicinanza and George R.R. Martin; producers, Mark Huffam and Frank Doelger; directors of photography, Marco Pontecorvo, Alik Sakharov and Matt Jensen; production designer, Gemma Jackson; costume designer, Michele Clapton.

That from HBO.

From me again: I'm thrilled.

Ten more episodes! A CLASH OF KINGS.

Looks like I'll be writing the Battle of the Blackwater. David & Dan give me the easy stuff.

P.S. A late correction. Actually, I don't KNOW how many more episodes. Could be ten. Could be more. Could even be fewer, I suppose, though I don't really think so. Myself, I'd love to see twelve episodes this second time around, since CLASH is a hundred pages longer than GAME. But that's a call for HBO and Dan and David, and I am sure they will let us know once it's made.

Congrats to you George! Lets hope that this series does for your novels what True Blood did for Charlaine Harris's in terms of cranking up sales to dizzying heights. Not that you need any more of us giving you a hard time about the next book, of course :)

Just wow. I've been waiting years to see this series done live and it ROCKED! Luckily the cliffhanger won't haunt me for a week but that was terrific. "*sigh* The things I do for love." *Splat!* Standing ovation!

I hope to see the Red Wedding at some point. Maybe Quentin Tarantino will let you borrow some of the leftover Kill Bill blood?

I have a little question if you ever have time to answer (or if anyone else here knows!) - on the main titles you all (cast and crew) got little sigils. Did you get to choose yours or was it assigned? I'm so curious as to if there's any added meaning to them! So excited to see more episodes!

YAY. But I'm not surprised. ;) Just finished watching the first episode. Everything was just... so perfect. I'm surprised they managed to fit so much into an hour.

Congratulations!! I can't wait to see more of it!! The first episode was spectacular, and I'm thrilled to hear there will be another seaon of it!

Huzzah! The more episodes the better, imho. I can not *WAIT* to see the house of the Undying. That has been one of my favorite scenes since I first read it.

If it goes to season 3 I hope you'll be the one writing a certain colored wedding... I don't see how anyone else could do that scene justice (it's still the first and only time I have ever thrown my book across the room because I was emotional about the book - and not my boyfriend). That's still a long ways off though.

Are you surprised? I'm not surprised! It was pretty epic :)

Excellent news! They must be extremely satisfied with the show to renew after airing just one episode. Huge congratulations.

Congrats to you and HBO, George.

As a Belfast boy I was chuffed to bits to watch the show as it aired on SKY last night. Just wonderful.

Here's to another Season and hopefully another Moot in a fine Belfast hostelry. Monday nights cannot come around quick enough.

Alright, now lets get the NFL going again and all will be right with the world. By the way, if the season starts on time there will be three matches with the Cowboys and the NY teams this year. Bring it on!

Wait! Is it REALLY Season 2?
Or Season 1 of HBO's New smash hit, "Clash of Kings"?

Seriously, I'm assuming they will keep the name "Game of Thrones" but its kind of a misnomer after Season 1, innit?

They should have called it "A Song of Ice and Fire"!

Re: Wait! Is it REALLY Season 2?
We have all finished book 4 and they are still playing the Game of Thrones, aren't they? Still a bit light on the Ice and Fire. I think it is a safe title for the series.

That's great news. I was worried that all of us here would be the only ones watching. Glad to see other people have good taste in entertainment as well.

Congratulations, George and down with Kong!!!

Seems a little rushed. I would think Game would take more than 10 hours to be fleshed out. And how about some slow-mo... like when certain females were rushing to Tyrion. Yeah... :)

This is the greatest news I've heard yet this month!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

And I just have to say here (as well as in the other forums you posted about) that when I was done watching the first episode I was breathlessly speechless. It was just so well done, so deep, so intense, and as perfectly true to the book as can be. And I'll probably be telling all my friends/coworkers etc. that it's the greatest fantasy screen adaptation I've ever seen (and I've seen them all). For real. No exaggeration. All you guys working on this show, you've blown me away! :)

Congratulations! Maybe down here in Australia we'll get to see the 1st season before the 2nd one starts screening.
