The Game of Food

Spain
My fans never cease to amaze me. Some of you are crazy. Some of you are wonderful. Most of you are crazily wonderful.

Like the two women in Boston who have started up a food blog they are calling the Inn at the Crossroads. Their mission appears to be to cook up both medieval and modern versions of all the dishes mentioned in A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE.

They're already off to a great start. You can read about their adventures and get all their recipes at the Inn: http://innatthecrossroads.wordpress.com/

I have cautioned them to skip the seagull when they get to it. The rat-on-a-stick is probably worth a pass as well, and I'd be wary about the bowls o' brown served in Flea Bottom. You never know what sorts of things go in them.

Anyway, do visit their blog and give them some encouragement. They have a lot of cooking to do. Why, Joffrey's wedding feast alone featured seventy-seven courses.

Oh, and I love their motto: In the Game of Food, you win, or you wash the dishes...

Best. ASOIF. motto. evar.
They cook AND have a sense of humor? Wish I lived in Boston. Yes, George, you have some of the best fans around.

The only problem is that everyone wants me to cook like that every Sunday night!

I coulda told you that would happen, going in. :)

Where, ah, where did you say you lived...? Sunday nights, you say...? :)

Yum!
Um...totally hungry now. I'd guess westeros is the post-spice-trade Europe? Cause otherwise it would kind of suck.

The Inn at the Crossroads? Isn't that the one where Catelyn grabbed Tyrion, and where Tywin later had the innkeeperess hanged for no reason I could ever discern?

If so, I hope that they haven't jinxed themselves with that name.

please no teasers
as george has said many times before don't put anything inparticular to the story in your comments as it would give away important info to people who haven't read the books

I found them the night of the premiere! It's an awesome site, also if you are a history nerd and want to try Elizabethan recipes. I defintiely want to make the Night's Watch buns and one of the variations on Lemon cakes.

And now I am hungry, looking at that blog. Scuse me while I go find a way to satisfy a craving of carrots, raisins and flaky bread with butter.

I've wondered about beer too. I'm guessing the beer in Westeros is more akin to English ales than continental European lager styles. Though the Wall would be an easy place to lager beer for long periods, it's cold enough.

Wow, I love it! Interesting from quite a few different points of view. And the bloggers are good writers as well. I'm not much of a meat eater, and these recipes are heavy on the meat, but I still enjoy reading the posts as entertainment in their own right. In regards to mulled wine they write, "Bottom line? Modern if you are throwing a party, medieval if you are planning to walk The Wall at night."

I know how odd this might sound, but I'm *really* glad you posted this. I must've hit a dictionary / encyclopedia more often for food in your series than for any other reason. Although I think I spy some utensils..!

Cooking with Ice and Fire
I've had "Cooking with Ice and Fire" on my list of things to do before I die for several years now.

I thought it would be great to partner with a professional (like Sarah Foster, or someone similar) and write a great cookbook, complete with appropriate illustrations or photography, and really set the mood.

Of course, we'd skip some dishes. Lamprey Pie sounds awful. ;)

Looks like they beat me to it.

This sounds great. Good luck!

I've bookmarked it
because a lot of those things look really really good and well within my cooking skills to make. (Well, I also know how to do the medieval food process of figuring out recipes, I'm just lazy.I

Much love for sharing, Paula in Kansas City, MO.
