The Sweet Taste of Victory

Spain
Life is magical and full of joy.

There's nothing better than a Sunday on which both of my NFL teams win. (Well, okay, I take that back. There are a few things that are better. Finishing a book, winning a Hugo, kissing a hot babe, a new book by one of my favorite writers, a great pizza pie. Having both the Jets and Giants win is still pretty high up there, though).

Today's games were both pretty exciting. In the morning game, the Jets had a commanding 31-13 lead and the game was well in hand. Then they decided to go into the infamous "prevent defense," which, as every football fan knows, usually just prevents you from winning. The Dolphins came storming back and almost pulled it out, and the Jets had to recover a last moment onsides kick to hold onto the victory. They did, though. Phew.

The Giants game was even sweeter. The Redskins were leading them 17-3 at the half, and the G-Men looked thoroughly beaten. Plaxico Burress was playing as if he'd coated his hands in oleomargarine before sprinting onto the field. The second half was a different story, however. This time it was the Giants who came storming back. Plax was suddenly catching everything in sight, and the Giant defense woke up for the first time this season. It came down to the final seconds. The Skins had first and goal on the Giants one-yard line , but the defense kept 'em out of the end zone and the G-Men collected their first victory of the season.

A pizza, a Hugo, and a few hundred kisses would make this a perfect day.

Well as a diehard Redskins fan, I will say that that game was depressing beyond belief ("prevent defense" indeed), though I was about ready to drop from the strain at the end. I will tip my hat to the Giants though; they deserve a big pat on the back for stepping it up in the second half. And you just wait for the rematch.

Paying attention to the 49ers for the first time in over a decade, I'm amazed it took them 'til Week 3 to lose a game!

Man, I could go for a good pizza now too.

I'm glad you're happy
And my beloved Patriots CRUSHED yet another opponent, so I am happy too. Although it would have been nice for the Redskins to make that last play a FG and cover the spread, but hey, can't have everything.

Although genetically a Redskins fan, I owe you a bunch of kisses anyway as I sit down to read the rest of A Clash Of Kings. Good luck on the pizza and the Hugo.

Bah, the skins should have had that! The Giants weren't playing well at all, but the skins shot themselves in the foot with their dumb mistakes. :( My whole next two weeks are shot now, since next week is a bye-week.

If I would have known....
I'd have snuck a kiss to you two years ago in New Mexico at the con. Well, if you make it back to Seattle, I'll have to go for it then. 8)

It is such a sweet feeling. I'm sorry the first two weeks were dissapointing for you, but I can't be sad that my Cowboys beat your Giants. I wish Eli all the best, and I'd love it if they beat the patriots into the ground (after the Cowboys of course). Anyway, it's been a Great weekend for football for me. My old High-school running back Justin Forsett got two TD's for UC Berkley, Cowboys won, Packers won, and there were a ton of great games to watch. Can't wait for next Saturday.

And Buffalo...still sucks. At least I have my Sabers! On a related note I've often wondered if GRRM given his love of football, fantasy and toy soldiers has ever enjoyed a game of Blood Bowl, the game of fantasy football, (though granted it plays a little more like rugby from what I'm told).

Well I am glad your teams won, but frankly I love my Packers more than any other team. Favre is an amazing player. did you see the end of the game? Two touchdowns in 64 seconds! He looked like the man who won the Superbowl today, yes the Heart Attack Pack is back!!

I haven't checked to see if the Bears won, but I agree that a few kisses and a pizza would definitely make this day sweet. On the other hand, shrimp scampi followed by homemade lemon pie ain't bad, either. :D

Glad your teams won and provided you with a happy Sunday.

Drool! Sorry I could not resist. They looked like, I have no idea what that was they were playing yesterday. I think I heard my brother screaming and he lives 2 hours away in Illinois.. MMM lemon pie sounds good too. mayhaps I need to bake today..

congrats on the win!

Being a die-hard Steelers fan, and living in the Washington, DC area, I'm always happy when the 'Skins lose. My partner is a Giants fan, and he was thrilled they pulled it out today.

I just wonder if this team would be better w/out Tom Coughlin. For some reason, that guy makes it hard for me to cheer for the Giants.

If they were able to get Bill Cowher, I would all of a sudden be a Steelers/Giants fan!

Hidden Message?
Perhaps I'm sleep deprived, or this is just wishful thinking, but...

Read the second paragraph again.

Now read the last paragraph again.

I caught it too. I don't think he'd joke and I doubt he did it by accident. Dance is so done.

Tell me about it. I watched the first half, a lot of tense back and forth, Rams defense playing hard and going into the second half TB 3 STL 0. I had a bunch of stuff to do, so I figured I would record the rest of the game and when I saw the final score on the news before watching I just deleted the recording in disgust.

I was at the Jets game, it was awesome!

I caught the last quarter of the Giants game, and from what I heard I'm glad I missed the first half.
