Have Gel Pen, Will Travel

passport
We have added two more appearances to the schedule for my DANCE WITH DRAGONS signing tour.

I will be at:

Sunday, July 24
2:00pm
Mysterious Galaxy
7051 Clairemont Mesa Blvd
San Diego, CA 92111

and

Tuesday, August 2
7:00pm
Joseph-Beth Booksellers
161 Lexington Green Cir.
Lexington, KY 40503

And that's it. I know, I know, there are a lot of other wonderful cities out there, and I wish I could visit and sign at all of them... but, alas, there's only one of me, and I only have so much time and energy.

If I'm not coming to a city near you, please remember that I attend conventions as well. In the next couple of months I will be hitting the San Diego Comicon, the World SF Convention in Reno, Nevada, and Bubonicon in Albuquerque. There will be ample opportunity to have me sign stuff at all three events. And a lot more time to hang around and talk at any of 'em. Bubonicon is especially good for that, since it's very small and friendly.

Speaking of Albuquerque... I will also be appearing at Hastings Books on Saturday, June 4, at 1:00pm.

HASTINGS BOOKS
6051 WINTER HAVEN ROAD, NW
ALBUQUERQUE
NM
87120
(505) 898-9227
(505) 898-5019

You won't be able to get your copy of DANCE autographed there, alas, since the book will still be a month in the future... this event is to promote the release of the DOORWAYS graphic novel, a hardcover from IDW.

Hastings will likely have copies of my other stuff on sale as well -- the first four Ice & Fire books, the recent Wild Cards volumes, maybe more -- and I'd be glad to sign that as well for my New Mexifans.

Well, I live in Reno, have my WorldCon membership, and will say hi to you in August! Might even dig my copies of the first Wild Cards books out for an autograph, if I can catch up with you.

George will be doing a autographing session at Reno
and many other WILD CARDS writers, from the original series founders like Melinda Snodgrass and Walter Jon Williams to the more recent additions to the WILD CARDS team, such as Daniel Abraham, Paul Cornell, Carrie Vaughan, Ian Tregillis will be in Reno doing autographing sessions as well (and there's a few other members I have yet to confirm as attending the WorldCon, but that's just because we've been so damn busy I haven't had time to ask everyone in the WC Consortium if they're coming).

All the writers I just mentioned have novels and collections of their own out as well, and would be delighted to have you bring some of their own stand-alone works to their autographing sessions. Lots of good reads are available from so many of the WILD CARDS writers this post would be a list of dozens of titles if I didn't control myself. If you haven't tried Melinda Snodgrass' "EDGE' series, or Daniel's quartet, THE LONG PRICE or his newest novel THE DRAGON'S PATH, you'll find a lot of damn fine stories to enjoy by other members of the WC consortium. Oh! Did I mention that the collaborative novel by Daniel and Ty Franck, written under the name 'James S A Corey', LEVIATHAN WAKES will be out this summer as well? No? Well, let me urge you to give it a try - it's 'SF space opera' at its finest.

So bring your WILD CARDS books collection and if you haven't already bought them, pick up some of the new titles in the series in the Dealers room to get signed to add to your collection by several of the writers who are now part of the longest-running shared world in SF/F.

I must advise you that it's likely that there will be limit on how many books you can get signed by George at his autographing session in Reno, as there will be on his official ADwD tour. But you can bring a friend or two to stand in line with you to spread the books out to more reasonable amounts per person. And if there's time, you can always go to the back of the line and come 'round again with more books to get signed. That's totally fair. It's when people turn up with two boxes of books and magazines that they want George to sign all in one go that make the autographing sessions seem endless while there's a hundred people waiting patiently to get just three or four books signed behind a 'collector' who may or may not be intending to keep George's signed books for themselves or intend to put them up on eBay as soon as they get through the autographing session. (Really, I've seen it happen - George signs something at an appearance and 2 hours later it's up on eBay. It's more like a scalper selling great seats for a major rock act at inflated prices than a GRRM fan who wants signed copies for themselves, or someone who wants to get a signed copy to give to a friend).

Living in Reno will make it easier to deal with transporting your books you bring from home or buy at the convention. You don't have to worry about if you can fit them all in the luggage, coming and going!

R.I.P. Houston
The city of Houston always gets crapped on.

Of course, we have brought it on ourselves to some degree. How can the 4th largest (might be 3rd now...did we pass Chicago yet?) city in the country have such a god-awful media market? We are not even ranked in the top 15 nationally! The fact is that there is just no incentive for anyone important or interesting to come here ever.

I need to move to CA.

Re: book tour
We were just in Oz last August/September, where George did 2 signings at the WorldCon and a signing at Sydney's Galaxy bookstore.

RIght now, there's no plans for George to return to Australia this year.

Atlanta, GA
Please come to North GA on one of your future signings. I live in Norcross about 20 miles north of Atlanta. On the Feast tour I drove to the Nashville signing where I got Game and Feast Signed. But gas has risen since Feast! Either way love your work and the show is awesome.

Visit to Slovenia
I'm wondering, is your visit to Slovenia just a rumor or is it a fact? Fans here are really hyped up, but are still not 100% sure, as the visit is not listed on your appearances page... If it's true and you really will be visiting three towns in Slovenia, it might be a good idea to update the page, so the fans from the neighboring countries will know as well (Koper is practically on the border with Italy and Croatia, Maribor is very close to Austria, Hungary and, again, Croatia, and Ljubljana is accessible to all our neighbors... We fans from Slovenia do want you just for ourselves when (and if) you visit but, alas, Slovenia is a small country (2 million people) and the number of us fans here is thus fairly limited and we do not want you to sit in front of only half filled rooms.

Re: Visit to Slovenia
details are still being worked out, but yes, George's publisher in Slovenia is working on having him do signings in Slovenia. Once we have firm dates and more knowledge, we'll get it up on the web site as soon as possible. If you can contact George's Slovenian publisher by e-mail or phone, you might be able to get more information directly, and at least impress the publisher that there interest in having George visit and do signings in Slovenia. Your direct contact with the Slovenian publisher could help influence how much work and publicity they create for their own web site and other venues about George's visit.

Often, the 'voice' of the fans who make contact with George's publishers in non-English speaking countries has more impact than you might think. Getting ten friends who also want George to come to Slovenia to do the same will increase the publishers' interest and activity in arranging events.

You'll enjoy Bubonicon
if you haven't been before, they hold a mass signing event in the main function room on Saturday. So check out the authors who are on the announced guests lists before you come, and pack a box of books to get signed. Lots of the original and new members of the WILD CARDS group will be there, so if you have any WILD CARDS books, or plan to pick some up at the convention, you'd be able to get multiple signatures on the WC books pretty easily.

The Dealers' room is not big, but there's a couple of very good book dealers who come every year, as well as some other merchants that offer jewelry, costuming, all sorts of interesting stuff. The Art show often has work by Harry Morris, very strange and unsettling sorts of art, and some good other local artists exhibit there as well.

You'll have a great time, and it won't be too hard to get to your books signed by George, unlike some of the planned stops on the book tour, which will have several hundred people in line at some of the stores.

any chance of you heading over the East

Re: Appearences
I'd also love it if you'd add another east coast city. I see you're stopping in NYC, but the sheer mobs of people that will attend that one really scare some of us.

I'm in Philadelphia, but I'd much rather attend a signing in DC (or Baltimore or even Virginia) than trying to wrestle through a Manhattan crowd.

I cannot get a signed copy of Dance because you are coming nowhere near the southeast. In fact, you are not coming to the southeast until 2014 (according to your appearances page). Why do you not like us?
