Painted Miniatures

Spain
Dark Sword Miniatures has posted lovely pictures of some painted versions of their latest crop of Ice & Fire miniatures over to their website. Gorgeous stuff. I thought I'd share them.

Here's Varys the Spider, painted by the amazing Jen Haley.

And here's Bronn, son of no one in particular, again by Jen Haley.

And this one is Benjen Stark, First Ranger of the Night's Watch, painted by Marike Reimer.

These figures, and the rest of the range, are all available (unpainted) from the Dark Sword website at http://darkswordminiatures.com Lots more pictures there as well... including the two latest additions to the range, sculpted by the incomparable Tom Meier -- King Robert I Baratheon, and Lord Tywin Lannister.

I commented on an older post, but I doubt you or anyone else will see it now, so here 'tis again: What is the release date for "Game of Thrones: Genesis?" And are there any plans for a second game set during then primary storyline?

Bronn looks perfect. ;)
And Tywin and Varys are so expressive.

I often wish I had more skill in painting. Dark Sword does excellent work.

Chello!

That's a really nie one of Lord Lannister. That's pretty much the way I pictured him.

Likely the second Ben Stark is more accurate. At the Wall he would not carry a shield with a House device.

The guy with the Lannister-looking shield is Bronn, not Benjen. The shield looks awesome though, whoever's holding it!

The Mountain that Skates
So I know you're a football fan and this probably isn't the right place to post this, but if you get a chance to follow the NHL playoffs at all the Boston Bruins have a guy who when on skates is 7' so we have officially dubbed him The Mountain that Skates

Now that he's growing his playoff beard he's even starting to look the part of Conan Stevens

Thanks for the kind words.

Benjen Stark is the one in Night's Watch black with the chipped shield and winter cloak. The one above it with the Lannister shield is Bronn.

Thanks!

question
Hey Mr. Martin huge fan I have two questions for you. My first one is have you seen the Aiden Gillens performance in The Wire that makes him just as corrupt as LittleFinger? Also (sorry for the spoiler question) do you wish you gave ned a bigger role in future books? I only ask because he along with Tyrion and LittleFinger are my favorite characters. If you don't respond I completely understand keep up the hard work!

Apropos of nothing but... This season is going way too fast! :(

Awesome!
As much as it hurts me to say (after all the expectations and high hopes i had for the tv series): those miniatures tend to meet my "inner picture" of the characters from your book far more often than the television people did. I can't even remember when the last pictures of a miniature came out that i could not approve from the point of "that's close to what i imagined". Those guys are doing awesome work.

Maybe one day the designer who made the sketches from which the miniatures were finally made could participate in doing one of the calenders?

Varys looks absolutely exceptional, from the detail of the mini itself down to every brush stroke upon it. Many accolades go to all the artists involved.

I second the season going too fast...

Also, the show was mentioned on "The Morning After" (on Hulu.com) today.

My favorite was the comparison between the Dothraki and the Kardashians. :)

Terrific paint jobs. I really do need to tuck away some extra coin and start buying up this line of minis...

The paint job on Varys is excellent - draped cloth like that is one of the hardest things to paint on a model.

I've been a big fan of Jen Haley's since she was winning Golden Demon awards left and right. The scratched Lannister paint job on Bronn's shield is perfect. Hopefully the folks at Dark Sword will get her to paint the finished Tywin.

I have been coveting this line of miniatures for a while now - I think all that's stopped me so far is that I'd want them all. Your writing is so visual that it's hard not to picture the scenes and characters from your stories, and the folks over at darkswordminiatures.com do a really gorgeous job. Bronn is wonderfully gritty and Robert and Tywin are perfect! Someday I'd love to see a photo of the whole set together.

I have birthday money to spend now. Just have to figure out which one (or two or three) of my favorite characters to get.
