Good Stuff

GAME OF THRONES has been nominated in the Best Drama category of the new Critics Choice Awards. Check out the full list of nominees here:

It's an impressive list of nominees. Congratulations to David and Dan and the cast and crew and support staff at HBO, all the great folks who worked so hard to make the show the success it seems to be. Great work, guys!

((And yes, I do wish some of our cast had gotten nominated as well. We have some amazing actors on GAME OF THRONES. Traditionally, though, fantasy and SF have always been overlooked in the acting categories. But maybe we'll do better in the Emmys and Golden Globes))

On other fronts... Sunday's episode, "The Pointy End," got the highest ratings of the season. The show is building. I suspect that this record will endure until... well, Sunday.

Congratulations Mr Martin!

I think it is only normal that this series is nominated as the best drama, but i don't think it is unfair not to nominate the cast. Because this is not a drama about mainly 5-6 people, even though all the characters are great, they have very little acting time because there are lots of characters. And I was also continuously disappointed about fantasy novels after LOTR and a few other books till I met your books. Lots of magic, stock characters, poetic story telling without any dramatic tension, easily guessed ends, etc... Your blend of fantasy and reality - pshychology of characters, sociological impacts of events and impacts of society upon characters- is maybe unique among fantasy writers. This kind of quality is found a little more in science fiction, but i must say it is lacking in fantasy in general. Of course, there are books that are not seen as fantasy but in fact can be thought in the fantasy genre (like Steppenwolf, Perfume, etc) that are highly regarded but i am not talking about them here.
