Five Days...

... till Kong is loosed upon the world.

Feels strange, after so many years. I know that some of you thought I would never finish. Believe me, there were dark nights of the soul where I had my doubts as well. But now the day is almost at hand, and the dragons will fly.

In fact, they are already taking wing. Bantam informs me that DANCE has just gone back for its 6th hardcover printing, and it isn't even on sale yet. The first reviews are breaking today, and so far (knock wood) they have all been great. And in the UK, Waterstone's in Glasgow has put up a brilliant window display:

Exciting times.

I absolutely can't wait! I'm new to the fandom, but I'm absolutely in love with the first 4 books... And I can't wait to get my hands on the new one. You've done such an amazing job! I admire you deeply, ser. :D

The Dance
Also have Tuesday off and so does the boyfriend. We've done the re-reads and the re-listens, with Roy and Lee, and will be camping in the white mountains of NH with Roy (yay!!) once again for The Dance. I'll also be getting the audio from aubible and then awaiting the hardcover. Congrats on the 6th printing George and for making it this far! I know it can't come fast enough but at the same time I would not want it any earlier than when it was truly finished to you. Thank you for sticking it with it. Oh and that display is wonderful! Is that a dragon egg I see.

I actually always had a strong, good feeling that you would indeed finish Dance, sooner or later, because of your posts here about struggling with it - which was a very good sign that at least you were working on it! :)

I've got a copy on pre order and can't wait until it hits our shores and I have it in my hot little hands. Really looking forward to going back to Westeros for a visit.

Congrats, George. I loved the book, and I look forward to seeing you in Burlington on Tuesday night.

Que venha os dragões!
Aqui no Brasil ainda vai ser lançado "A Storm of Swords". Mas mesmo assim, estou ansioso por "A Dancing with Dragons".

Royal treatment.
6th printing already?! Wow!
I'm glad the reviews are very good. Unfortunately I won't read any more. The last one I read had too much info. Not quite spoiler material but too much for my liking.

I'm really looking forward to reading it.

why is this book so expensive? i paid $8.99 a piece for the previous 4. even the kindle edition is almost double that. i've been waiting for this book for 4 years, and now i can't get it because it costs so much! and if i do somehow scrounge up the money (rolling coins) i won't be able to afford the wine! Boo!

Seems like new releases always cost a little more. Wait awhile and the price will come down.

As much as I enjoyed Game of Thrones on HBO and the book, and am enjoying A Clash of Kings I'm not ready for A Dance With Dragons but I already ordered it anyway. I'll get there eventually after all the review books are done and I've managed to get through the other three books before it. Congratulations, George. You're a great storyteller.

I'm so excited! I haven't even read it yet, and I'm already sure the wait was worth it.

I am so excited for the new book!!

I shouldn't have brought up anticipation for book 6 in a comment I posted a couple days ago. it was unnecessary; especially since I read a review (non-spoiler review, can't handle anything else) and found out there WILL be more than the other side of the coin to a feast of crows... in dance with dragons..so some of my questions will be answered..and new ones created I know

Both editions
Pre-ordered on Kindle about a month ago (let's hope it's avaliable on Kindle at the same time it is on paper); and will also buy a hardcover Spanish edition as soon as it's translated. Happy times!

BTW, Mr. Martin, next time you come to Spain (whenever that is) I'll make you sign my Kindle! :)

Wow wow wow! We can't believe we got a mention on here from the Man himself! Thanks so much for posting our window and all the kind comments on it! We had great fun putting it together and are so impatient for Tuesday to arrive! Our window gang put in a lot of work for it , we're so happy! Congratulations to George RR Martin for the great reviews already, hopefully much more to come!

And yes to the question - That was a dragon egg!!

Just wanted to say a bunch of UK retail websites with ADWD up for preorder are calling it "The fifth volume in the greatest epic work of the modern age."

I thought that was pretty cool.

Brilliant. I just pre-ordered mine.

A question though. Can I already gripe bout the next one not being finished yet?
Jul. 8th, 2011 02:12 pm (UTC)
I pre-ordered from Amazon as soon as I got the email it had an official release date! So excited!! I've been listening to the audiobooks to refresh my memory in preparation. When will the ADWD Audio be out??

Confused. Help!
I'm confused. It sounds like you're saying the series is complete. Is this the final book to the series? This may be an obvious answer to some, but I truly don't know. I do love the series. Winds of Winter?

Please help and clarify!

Re: Confused. Help!
No, this is not the last book. Don't know where you would get that impression. Two more after this.

French e-book
I beg you sir. Force your french editors to sell us e-book version of your work. I'm forced to buy books, and then to find an illegal e-copy because I'm handicapped, and can't manipulate a book. French editors are really late, in e-book distribution...

Exciting times indeed!
I can hardly wait for July 12th, although I'm biding my time by re-reading the previous installments at a leisurely pace, to re-acquaint myself with all the subtle little details and sub-plots that I've forgotten in the meantime.

"The Song of Ice and Fire" pretty much proves that literary quality is not a question of genre, and that fantasy novels do not have to be formulaic and superficial.
I've rarely seen anybody else weave so many strands and yarns into a single, beautifully crafted tapestry. If I manage to rival your writing skills 30 years from now, I'll consider myself extremely fortunate.

Just finished Dance with Dragons
Well worth the wait! It's hard to pick a favorite from the series, but this is a strong contender.
