Five Days...

... till Kong is loosed upon the world.

Feels strange, after so many years. I know that some of you thought I would never finish. Believe me, there were dark nights of the soul where I had my doubts as well. But now the day is almost at hand, and the dragons will fly.

In fact, they are already taking wing. Bantam informs me that DANCE has just gone back for its 6th hardcover printing, and it isn't even on sale yet. The first reviews are breaking today, and so far (knock wood) they have all been great. And in the UK, Waterstone's in Glasgow has put up a brilliant window display:

Exciting times.

Hehe, already have mine pre-ordered and looking so, so forward to it!!!:D

This is all so exciting! Some people get excited about movie launches, but I get over-the-moon excited about book launches. I can't wait to get my copy of A Dance with Dragons, even though I have to read the other books first!

I hope you have fun on your tour!

Audio version?
Gratz on the release George! Can't wait. Can you tell me if there are plans for an audio version, and when I might be able to purchase it (via a service such as Audible, for example)? Thank you!

Re: Audio version?
I don't know about a downloadable copy, but Amazon is showing the Audio CD version as shipping on the 12th, same as the books. I imagine it will be available at your local book store on Tuesday as well, if you'd prefer to get it in person.

Woo Hoo
I'll be reading mine on kindle when it comes out. Then I'll get a hardcover for you to sign at Redwood City. E-readers are great, but they aren't any fun for book signings. Yes, I'm a rabid fan! See you at the end of the month, sir.

Re: Woo Hoo
He'd probably sign your kindle...

I'm starting to get twitchy. I did my re-reads. I've avoided the spoilers. Now that we are in the home stretch I'm excited about what wonders await and apprehensive of what horrors will be lurking to break my heart.

Jul. 7th, 2011 04:52 pm (UTC)
I feel the exact same way. Squeeeee!!
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:50 pm (UTC)
Honestly, these five days are feeling like forever. The waiting is harder now I know it's only a few days until I get my hands on it.

:D I seriously can't wait now.

That's one hell of an awesome display. Pity I don't live in Glasgow, lol.

I've got my copy on order from Amazon, can't wait to get stuck in!
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:52 pm (UTC)
That display looks awesome! I eagerly await my copy of the book, though sadly I have to wait longer since I pre-ordered it along with another book that is not released until August. Maybe Amazon will take pity and ship it first.

I took time off of work for this
I have never taken time off of work to enjoy entertainment mroe immediately. I've always thought it was dumb to sacrifice vacation time to get to something faster.

This is different. Cannot wait until my Kindle downloads the book as I feverishly re-read the series up to this point. Took two days off just in case.

But that is a fantastic display. :D

Ah, I am envious. In this little corner in Asia *sob Philippines* we have to wait a bit longer.
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:56 pm (UTC)
so excited to get my hands on a copy! though I'll have to find someone to hold it for me while I go and graduate university that day, only something very important could take me away from reading!
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:56 pm (UTC)
Nice display...

But you realize this means in 6 days people will complain the next book is taking too long! :) :) :)
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:56 pm (UTC)
The wait for Dance was definitely worth it...
I've finished reading yesterday and now it's off to waiting again for Winds :(
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:57 pm (UTC)
Pre-ordered on kindle, and harcover. Plan to take my time and enjoy it <3
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:59 pm (UTC)
Can't wait
6th printing already? Fantastic news and that display is gorgeous. I am excited to see the noise and buzz that Kong will unleash. Colbert interview? Jeopardy category? National ASOIAF Day? The best thing about this Kong is he has wings! :)
Jul. 7th, 2011 03:59 pm (UTC)
I will be buying the book on the 14th at B&N in Union Square so I can get a better spot in line. I am not sure if I can hold out that long. :(
Jul. 7th, 2011 04:11 pm (UTC)
Best wishes! Looking forward to the book, meanwhile - don't wear yourself out at the book signings/publicity. We want you around for a long time, you have plenty more books we want you to write.
Jul. 7th, 2011 04:13 pm (UTC)
If you're in London on the 12th, Waterstones in Picadilli will have the actual Iron Throne from the series, not a replica, the actual 6' high throne, in store.

And some lucky punters will get to sit on it and have their pic taken.
Jul. 7th, 2011 04:13 pm (UTC)
why isn't it next tuesday yet?? SOB
Jul. 7th, 2011 04:14 pm (UTC)
Glasgow!? (runs off to see for himself)

I bought one of the red-cover hardbacks of Feast for Crows out of that store. Found it in the sale section for cheapness and it had a GRRM scribble inside! THAT was a good day.

Tuesday may well surpass it though.
Jul. 7th, 2011 04:59 pm (UTC)
I got my Feast signed there back in 2005, making a special trip to Glasgow for it. I only found ASOIAF with the first 2 books in a charity shop a couple of months before that.

I'm exceedingly excited for the release! I've pre-ordered it on Kindle so I'll get it on the release day without even having to leave the house. It will have the honour of being the first book I will have paid for on kindle (as I just bought the device a few weeks ago and have contented myself with free classics and ebooks I already owned until now). I'd say it feels strange to finally be getting it after however many years, but I felt the same way about Feast as well, in addition to ever-so-many other releases from long-running fantasy series. Waiting is kinda part of being a fantasy fan. But the wait being over? Definitely the best part.

Was ready to preorder on Amazon last week. Unfotunately they all must be on reserve for their stock because will not let me order it!
Jul. 7th, 2011 04:55 pm (UTC)
Are you sure? I'm going to the page right now and it's letting me preorder. I don't think Amazon will run out of stock, it is the number one selling book on the world's largest on-line retailer.

I am taking the 12th off form work and got two copies pre-ordered from Mysterious Galaxy. I can't wait to crack that book open and will see you at the signing on the 24th!

Can't wait...
but I am also not done with rereading yet. Just got a new job and new place to live so was running a little behind, started Storm of Swords this morning. I'm going to either Meijer or Wal-Mart at midnight on Tuesday to get my first reading copy, then will buy a second copy at B&N to get it signed in Indianapolis on the 16th
