One more signing...

About 1100 people turned up this afternoon in Carmel, Indiana. Another great event. Thanks to my hosts at b and n , you were all great.

Oh, almost forgot. New Yorkers looking for signed copies should check out the HBO store. I signed a ton for them as well.

Tomorrow I head home for Parris s birthday, and to catch my breath for comicon.

Peter's going to be at ComicCon but the two of you crossing paths is slim unless you meet on your way elsewhere.

A very nice event, and I don't know how you have the patience to do it! Thank you again from a group of grateful Detroiters who drove down. Be well!
Jul. 17th, 2011 02:57 am (UTC)
Thanks for doing the signing! I lucked out that you were doing a signing in Carmel while I'm in Bloomington for a summer language program. I don't think you've come to Michigan in the past (where I normally hail from) so I've never gotten to go to a book signing until today.
Jul. 17th, 2011 03:21 am (UTC)
I was at the signing today in Carmel and thanks for answering so many questions. From the lead up info available about the event I expected it to be much less informative and I was happy that you took questions from those of us attending. Safe travels!

Congratulations on the success of your books and the Emmy nominations. It is well deserved. Sorry about the cramping from signing so many books, but sometimes I wish it was me. Not to take anything from you, just wishing on a star. Twinkle, twinkle Martin Star.

Hope this isn't a bother, but I didn't know where else to ask this: where can we email or send a letter to George? My friends and I had the idea to send a joint message/letter so we could all tell George what we'd like to say (or ask) him, without making his mailbox (electronic or otherwise) overflow. I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this, or if it's cleay on his offici site and I completly missed it.

this afternoon's signing
This was my first signing and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it from geeking out with other fans, to listening to the Q/A, and of course the best part-that one, brief, moment of getting to say hi!! Congratulations on the Emmy noms and all of your other recent success! Finally, even if you didn't clear up the point of contention between my bf and I, I am so glad you did not say that he is right and I am wrong :) Best wishes on the rest of your tour!!
Jul. 17th, 2011 03:54 am (UTC)
Have fun on your tour. I considered coming to your signing in NYC, but I have four books signed from you already, so I elected to stay home and read instead. I just finished ADWD minutes ago ...thank you. It was brilliant and wonderful, even if you did break my heart over that-which-shall-not-be-named-for-fear-of-spoilers. I look forward to The Winds of Winter, the next Dunk & Egg novella, and season two on HBO.

Keep up the great work! This is something for the ages.

I was there!
I was the guy with the very bright super mario hat on who froze up once I got in front of you lol. Totally couldn't think of anything to say, so I stood there like an idiot. Congrats on everything, and keep up all the amazing work is what I wanted to say!
Jul. 17th, 2011 04:10 am (UTC)
Thank You!!
Thank you Mr. Martin for creating such an awe inspiring book series! Thank you for 'finalizing' my dreams and for being the light that shone through the darkness for me. I now know how strongly I truly want to be a writer and thanks to you and your work I believe that I can do it! So once again I thank you Mr. Martin and hope that your work can help others find their way.

Carmel Signing!
I was so glad I was able to make it out there! I was Group 21 (not last at least) and it was great to finally meet you. Hope the rest of your tour goes well and This "Kong" gets all the success it deserves.
I've been following this thing for years but never posted until now... sorry.

ps. Good handshake

A Dance with Dragons
I got Dance at a midnight release and just finished it, all I can say is that it was incredible!!! My friends were all going to see Harry Potter and I told them, "I've been waiting 4 years for this masterpiece, I'll see potter when it comes out on dvd or something." Keep up the great work, you rock!

Happy b-day to the wife, and have a lovely rest! Sorry I wasn't able to see you, but I'm still basking in toy glow of the book!!
Jul. 17th, 2011 05:14 am (UTC)
My dad was there; he said he had a wonderful time. He also picked up a signed copy for me, as well as himself, and I'm so excited. Thank you for taking the time to do signings.
Jul. 17th, 2011 05:39 am (UTC)
Hi Mr. Martin, this is Nicholas Andrews from today's signing. I realized I only had about a twenty second window to speak to you, so I just want to add it meant a lot to me to give you a copy of my book. I've been reading Ice & Fire since 1998, and you've been such an inspiration and influence on my own writing since then. I assume you get a lot of comped novels from amateur and professional alike, so I was thrilled that you accepted it at all.

By the way, Dance was awesome. I happened to have a couple days off when it was released on Tuesday and slammed through it in about thirty-six hours, marathon style. I have my usual little nerd rage gripes, but nothing that hindered my enjoyment of the book in any way. It was great to finally get more Tyrion/Dany/Jon/Davos chapters after so long.

Congratulations on all the success. Take care, sir.

Happy birthday and best wishes to Parris!
Jul. 17th, 2011 08:30 am (UTC)
Some friends have bought the book at internet. We are all spanish and they just can't wait. I tell them that your books aren't goods for reading in any languaje diffrent than our, because of the big amount of names that change and make very hard the reading. In any case, will be more than a year of waiting, so I'm not sure if I will end reading as they are doing right now. :D

It really was an awesome event, George. Great getting to see you. Looking forward to Chicon 2012

Just wanted to say thank you for the signing. I was somewhere in the 450 range and asked about The Hedge Knight being reprinted, which would be great. I gave A Game of Thrones to my aunt and uncle and they are hooked. They have read the first four books in about five months and are about to start the fifth when I send them their signed copies. I would like to give them the tales of Dunk and Egg, but it looks like The Hedge Knight can only be gotten used online from Amazon. Maybe the first three novellas could be released together? Anyway, thanks again and I am looking forward to reading your new work.

Indy signing
Wow 1100 people! I wasn't sure what to expect so I got there around 12, that wasn't early enough. I was about 450th in line. Thanks for coming though.
Just wondering, I think you mentioned this was your 3rd signing in the Carmel b and n. Is that your preferred spot? There is a very large b and n in plainfield, IN that wouldn't require you to travel across the city. It's about 15 minutes from the airport.

Hey what do ya know
I share a Bday with the famous Parris. Finally someone to be proud of other than Kristen Bell or Nick Faldo!

Re: Hey what do ya know
we also share our birthdate with John Glenn and Nelson Mandala. if that's any comfort.

Re: Hey what do ya know
well they're better than who I listed but I'll stick to you and I being the top holders of this day. Happy Birthday Parris
Jul. 17th, 2011 05:50 pm (UTC)
Thanks for showing up here George. It was the 3rd time I've met you and were your usual nice and humorous self.

BTW, still not trading Peyton for Eli. Oh, and big brother HAS won the big game and will hopefully win another soon....maybe this year on our own homefield of Lucas Oil Stadium.

book signing
The fans here in Dallas miss you stopping by for a signing here, but we are actively consoling ourselves by attending big, red, dog book signings instead. Thank you for such an incredible tome, and I hope that you get a chance to sit back and have some enjoyment from the fruits of your labor.

It was great to finally meet you! The Carmel signing went really well. B&N did a great job keeping everything orderly. Have a safe trip back to NM!

Thailand is SOLD OUT
On Friday I made a 5 hour journey into Bangkok by bus. The sole purpose was to purchase Dance. Apparently every book store in the city is sold out! The horror! Now I'm back home in English language book free Buriram and I'm totally bummed that I'm on the internet instead of reading your book! I guess I've been patient this long so I can wait another month. =(
Jul. 17th, 2011 10:18 pm (UTC)
I was there, and yes, it was great! Thanks again, and thank you to the B&N employees who so nicely offered to take pictures for everyone in line!

Life is meaningless and full of pain...
I just have to say that to you now I've finished reading it.
Jul. 17th, 2011 10:52 pm (UTC)
Not just to catch your breath, but to rest that signing hand in a bucket of ice.
Jul. 18th, 2011 12:27 am (UTC)
Thank you
Hi George - I was the very talkative girl from NU at dinner last night in Indy. I just wanted to once again thank you for all the time you took out for us, and of course Random House for the pizza. While your writing is quite enough to keep us fans ecstatic and eagerly awaiting each page, it is your accessibility to said fans that puts you in a special place in our hearts. Best of luck on the remainder of your tour, and I hope to see you at some more gatherings in the future.

P.S. What you said about Cubs fans was pretty much the cherry on top of my already magnificent day :)

George!!!! Spring sickeness question
Thanks for a great couple of hours in Indy! I am the one who asked the question about the Hand of the King between Daeron 2 and Aerys 1during the Great Spring Sickness. I really appreciate your consideration...it was a fantastic moment for me. Unfortunately, you had the answer in your notes. As I mentioned our group is running a GoT game at Gencon, and would love to have correct canon. (We are obsessive on details!). I know you are crazy busy, but if you could help...it would be awesome, and stuff of Gencon legend!

Wow, that's an amazing turnout! I will be at your Seattle signing, I plan on traveling up from Portland for it and I can't wait. Looks like I'm going to have to get there extra early though. ADWD was amazing, btw, I'm already reading it for the second time (admittedly because I was so excited to finally have it that I blew through it in about a day and a half so I think I may have missed some finer details!)

thanks from the Cincinnatian
Thank you so much for doing the book signing, I was so excited I could barely speak at my turn!! I hope you like the Skyline, the mead and the chips...they are all iconic Cincinnati things. I wish I could have found some dry ice, I would have brought you some Graeter's ice cream.
The book so far is fantastic (as expected)
thanks for being so awesome

I used to live just east of Carmel.

Congratulations on such a successful tour! :) :)
