Amazon Exclusive

Spain
If you're reading this journal, the odds are good that you've already read the first four books of A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, and have them sitting on your shelves...

But if you're looking for hardcovers to replace your worn paperbacks, or want a nice matching set, or are just one of the completists who wants to own every edition... Amazon has just opened pre-orders for a boxed set of A GAME OF THRONES, A CLASH OF KINGS, A STORM OF SWORDS, and A FEAST FOR CROWS. You can order them here:

http://www.amazon.com/George-Hardcover-featuring-Thrones-Exclusive/dp/0307292134/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1317326305&sr=1-3

These editions are an Amazon Exclusive. Under the terms of the deal they cut with Bantam, the set will be available only through Amazon, and will not be sold in any bookstore, be in chain or independent.

I've seen some jpegs of the cover designs, which look pretty cool, but have not actually a set of the books myself yet. Looking forward to it, though...

Matching set? Why start now? :) Isn't the Song of Ice and Fire about harmony in discord? lol

Do you know if the aesthetic of the covers will match A Dance with Dragons? ADWD is the only hardcover of the series I own right now, and I'd like to get the others, but it would be nice if they are relatively close too :)

The covers of the Amazon set will match each other, but not the Bantam DANCE, no. They're using images from the tv series.

Ahh ok thank you! :) I figured from the side of the box being the TV series throne but just wanted to make sure.

Amazon Exclusive Boxset
So okay the covers are not gonna be the old Stephen Youll illustrations? Cos I will just die if it was. Those books are so rare it'd be great if the are published again.

They're so shiny! No way I'm going to be able to resist.

Complete set?
This is really tempting, but I wonder if it's likely there will be a similar boxed set after the final book in the series is published?

Re: Complete set?
I wish I could give a definitive answer to that, but there's really no way to know.

Re: Complete set?
Darn...I'll just have to buy all of them then. :)

And the other obvious question: will these be obtainable through Amazon.co.uk, or will we have to get them shipped from America? (Obviously we want them. I mean, that's not even a question.)

Damn my addictions...
George when you used to say "the first kid on the block to own them all" - it may soon need to be "the first kid to own a block to store them all." - love it. Thanks for letting us know. :)

Speaking of the books on Amazon...
Why are the ASOIAF audiobooks so bloody expensive? I bought my mint condition first edition hardcover Game of Thrones for less than the $45 Amazon wants for each audiobook.

Any suggestions where I could pick up reasonably priced used copies?

we don't have any control over the price of the audiobooks
so we don't have any idea why the cover price is what it is. You might want to check to see if your local library has or can order through an inter-library loan the audiobooks for you to borrow. I think Audible.com had a deal on at least GoT a while ago, you can check there as well to see if they offer a better price.

Re: we don't have any control over the price of the audiobooks
Just for kicks I checked and my library system has probably a dozen copies of the AGOT audiobook. All were checked out. Worth the wait though.

Probably because the books are so long. In print, what's a few extra pages? But recording takes time and effort, so longer books cost more. I agree that $45 seems a bit steep, but I would guess that's the reason.

Heh, like I'm going to buy a "matching set" that's unfinished. In a few years, when I can buy a complete matching set, now... In the meantime, I'll be buying each one as soon as it's published.

Also covers with shots from the tv series seems like it would work better after those seasons are shot. Though, of course, they could all be iconic things like the Iron Throne, ravens, weirwoods, etc.

I have yet another "deluxe" edition (only of Game) on preorder at B&N, which appears to be exclusive to them. Any more info on this, George?

this post led me to head over to amazon.co.uk to see if the CoK Limited had been announced yet and it turns out the entire set is being released in limited form. My wallet is feeling the pain. But they're so pretty in their black slip cases.... Must own. Darn international shipping costs.

Call me a purist, but I prefer my book covers not have tv or movie screen shots splashed all over them.

I personally prefer the beautiful UK slipcased versions. Simple and classy.

I already own GOT. The other four will come out in the next months. And there is no problem with the next two books. Just put them next to the others in your shelf and voila! Just very well made.

I thought you might get a kick that "Game of Thrones" was referenced in the Irish Presidential election debate. The SF candidate mentioned HBO coming over, making the show, and emplying Irish people.

Was this in the Republic?

Amusing. HBO if filming GAME OF THRONES in Belfast and Northern Ireland, after all. It was CAMELOT that was based in Dublin and filmed in the Republic.

I was just wondering if you can divulge any information on when A Dance with Dragons will be coming out in paper back (preferably trade paperback)?
My father is halfway through A Feast for Crows and he is pestering me about it.
