Cyanide Studios and Atlus Entertainment have just unveiled a trailer for their forth-coming GAME OF THRONES videogame RPG. If you missed the official premiere and presentation in Paris,
here's a look.
I'll be the first to admit that I have not played a lot of videogames myself. It's not that I don't enjoy them; rather, I enjoy them too damned much. Parris often says that Sid Meier owes her, seeing as how I lost a novel to RAILROAD TYCOON and another one to PIRATES. But looking at this, I can't help be impressed by how far game graphics have come.
I haven't played the game myself yet, but the Cyanide gang has visited me a couple of times in Santa Fe to give us presentations, and discuss details of game play and background. They are presenting original stories here, with characters of their own creation, but it was important to them (and to me) that they get the look and feel of Westeros right, and I think they have. Their enthusiasm and passion for this project is palpable.
This preview has me very excited. It's another way to visit Westeros, for those of you who can't get enough, and maybe the game will even help fill some of those long years between books.

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Mr. Martin. And thank you for being such an awesome writer and blogger. ;)
Best regards from your Chilean fan,
Andrea.
Fingers crossed though.
The graphics are good enough not to be a turn off, based on that trailer. Now the only thing I personally am gonna keep my fingers crossed for, is the gameplay.
But if there's a 360 version, I'll be having it!
BUT, graphics does not make a game, and I for one are pretty darn stoked that they've actually devoted a lot of time to get the characters and the setting right.
(and, do I spot a Red Priest? With a flaming sword?!)
Is the guy in red robes Beric? He lit a sword on his hand...

I will agree the graphics are lacking, but they can more than be made up for with an awesome story / great game play / reveals/events.
Atlus may not be a huge developer but this may turn out to be a really good thing. I've played some of their other offerings (Demon's Souls (CRITICALLY Acclaimed) and 3D Dot game Heroes...) and they are certainly a capable developer. Do we really want this developed by an EA studio?? I think no!
They have their own graphical style (kinda japanameish) which is yes, somewhat dated... but I'm still excited for this title... particularly what kind of story is contained within... just how awesome is the story and are there multiple outcomes?
The development team at Cyanide wrote the story.
To be honest, Sid Meier's Pirates is one of the top five games ever made, in my opinion.
You know, the new Elder Scrolls game (it's a huge hit) has a BUNCH of SOIAF refrences in it.
But, hey, it´s cool. Pretty amazing guy, 1:52.
Another thing that caught my attention was the music for this trailer, taken directly from the final scene of the series. Such a lovely music, this song, perfect for that scene, it couldn´t be better. Wow.
Was that a glimpse of Mr. Martin...in the game...alas my eyes deceived me?
More importantly, I'm concerned about the lack of females in this game. We only briefly saw a couple. I would hope some of them might be playable. I'm really, really tired of video games being all about men, and whatever females you might find being little more than hood ornaments. And I also hope that whatever female characters they present won't just be sex objects, but characters as interesting and as independent as Arya Stark, Asha Greyjoy, and Daenarys Targaryen.
Is that an Avatar of you at 1:51 in the video??
Love it! Can't wait!!
