More on the RPG

And here's another taste of the video RPG, coming next year from Cyanide Studios and Atlus Entertainment.

And yes, that's James Cosmo voicing the Old Bear. Cyanide has reached agreement with HBO allowing them to use elements from the television series in their game.

Looks pretty cool to me. That shot of the Wall, panning up from the courtyard, is pretty stunning.

For those wanting more information about the RPG, the French fans at La Garde de Nuit and Fantasy.fr were invited to an hour-and-a-half long presentation of the game, and shared their reports (and video!) with us over at Westeros.

Here's the most detailed report, from LGdN, and here's some added details, including the video of the presentation which shows a bit more of the game in action, although not in high detail, and of course in French.

Interesting stuff. I think that maybe "Ragnar" should be "Ranger" rather than "Magnar" in reference to the classic Dungeons and Dragon's class whose primary ability was dual wielding weapons and of course the order within the Night's Watch.

The official site clarified it -- Magnar was the intended term. The skill class apparently relates to Mors having observed and picked up the fighting style of a wildling tribe or something like, and it's true, looking at glimpses of the wildlings in this, that they seem to be dual-wielding berserker types.

Actors
I had the pleasure of talking with Sylvain Sechi recently at a game conference, the designer on the game, and he said there were only 3 or 4 of the characters from the TV show lending their voices, but that's not bad! The gameplay looks very good and the engine they're using is pretty impressive.

The graphics look awfully last-gen, but if the gameplay and story are good I won't care.

Ser, do you have any idea about your cameo character, the maester, who briefly appeared in the other video? I'd love to learn more.

The MMO
Can you say anything about the MMO yet? The only things I have read have me a little worries. First it is a browser game and second it is being done by BigPoint, a company who is very notorious for cash grabs and selling in-game advantages which is a pretty big no-no as far as most are concerned.

I would be happy with a MMO where I can be a wandering sellsword or work my way up to an officer of one of the lord's bannerman. I know there won't be anything canon altering in these games, but it would be nice to just be able to set foot in the world without my credit card being charged every 5th step.

Hopefully you can clear up any misconceptions.

Re: The MMO
The MMO is a sublicense through HBO, and is still in the early stages of development. The team of BigPoint did give us a presentation at the HBO offices, and what I saw looked pretty impressive... but, as I have said before, this is not an area in which I have any expertise.

Re: The MMO
You could still use one of the ASoIaF mods for games like 'Mount & Blade: Warband'. Then you have your sellsword setting. (For those who don't know the game, it is some kind of medieval 'Pirates' with real time combat)

RPG
If only Bethesda could have taken a shot at this game! I think it could have made an amazing RPG, but Cyanide has me worried. It may be too big a task for a small studio.

Re: RPG
Meh. Bethesda games have lovely scenery and some nice features but what they lack is story and characters. Tell me the names of twenty characters from Skyrim or Oblivion without looking. And then tell me 100 names from ASoIaF. I bet it would be easier to find the 100. ;)

I think they should change the name to "Videogame of Thrones" :)

Looks great!
Is this going to be a single player or MMORPG? Is it going to be one of those monthly-fee games that I can't afford or a one-time fee that I might have a chance at? Looks exciting in any case, and looking forward to its release!

Nice
Really cool looking graphics, I always love the scenes around The Wall and anything to do with the Night's Watch!
