Double Victory

Spain
Last night in London SFX magazine announced the winners of their annual readers's awards, and I am pleased and proud to report that A DANCE WITH DRAGONS won for Best Novel, and HBO's GAME OF THRONES as Best New TV Show.

I was not able to be in the UK for the awards (though I will be, come April, for Eastercon, and signings in Bath and London), so I taped my acceptance speech ahead of time.

Thanks for everyone who voted... and to all my readers everywhere, who waited for the book so patiently, and have received it with so much enthusiasm and acclaim.

(For a full list of winners, check out the SFX website. And do be sure to play Neil Gaiman's acceptance speech, it's a hoot and a half.)

((Now all I need to make the day perfect is a Giants victory in the SuperBowl. GO BIG BLUE!!))

Well deserved
All your hard work (and despair and moments of hair tugging) have paid off. I, for one, am grateful that you take such care with your stories, deadlines be damned. Thank you for persevering and for holding yourself to such a high standard. You done good.

And even though I'm not a fan of Eli (spurn my Chargers, will you (although in hindsight it's blatantly obvious the Mannings made the right choice)), I'll be pulling for the Giants defense to destroy the Pats and take home the Lombardi trophy.

Also, nice vest!

Fun speeches
Gaiman's was indeed great. Stan Lee's also bears watching. George, you're in company that includes quite a few overacting thespians, maybe you should cry on camera or something next time. Can't let yourself be outdone like that on a regular basis... :-)

Congrats on your wins!! Thats awesome!! I think youre going to be very happy after the Super Bowl too! What makes me happy is the upcoming DVD release of Game Of Thrones, the start of season 2 of GOT and of course the eventual release of the last two books! :) Any news on that front you might care to share after your victories? hehe

Well your perfect day came to fruition. Giants played great in an all around great game. One of the best Super Bowls ever, just like the last time these two teams player each other. The only thing that baffles me is the Eli Manning denial still persists even after another Super Bowl victory and MVP. Anyways congrats!

What a game! Exciting to the end. I bet your heart nearly stopped when Gronkowski reached out for that ball...

Good win by the G-Men. Shows that momentum to finish the season is nothing to take for granted...

Go Giants!!!
I know this is probably not the right entry to do this, but I wanted to be the first to congratulate you on the Giants win at the Superbowl :) I don't watch American Football myself (being born and raised in Europe), but I see the game was tough and tension was up basically to the very last second, so it's all more so a deserved win. I hope the G-men will win many more Superbowls, so ...

GO GIANTS!!!

Giants Win!
Well Mr. Martin, your team won, and your book won. "A Dance With Dragons" isn't just the book of the year... it along with "A Storm of Swords" and "A Feast for Crows" are the books of the 21st century (so far)!

P.S. - Go Giants!

Dance with Dragons
Hi George,

Just wanted to let you know that I was one of your fans who grumbled as I waited 6 years for Dance. And I an happy to announce it was worth the wait - every bleeding second!

I missed the July 2011 release; having all but forgotten about Dance's progress. But after seeing a reference to the Game of Throwns on HBO tv series (recently), I checked your website. To my delight, the word 'DONE' appeared and my heart grew light.

I watched the HBO series first before reading Dance, to give me a refresher. A great series by the way! But then, when I started reading, I couldn't put it down.

All 1000+ pages gobbled up as fast as my wife allowed. It was fabulous.

For a couple of weeks, immersed myself in the wonderful place you call Westeros and beyond. Just incredible!

I will happily wait another 6 years for the next book!

Thank you and thanks again!
