Battle on the Trident

Spain
Green Ronin Games will be bringing out a new edition of their popular A SONG OF ICE & FIRE role-playing game this April. They've just unveiled the cover for the new edition, and Michael Komarck has struck again with his own smashing version of the Prince of Dragonstone and the Lord of Storm's End meeting on the Trident.

If his eye-popping Wild Cards covers weren't enough to convince you to nominate Komarck for the Hugo Award, this sure as hell should do the trick. The guy is WAY overdue.

Komarck is my favourite of all the calendar artists!

A Song of Ice and Fire is finally coming alive and getting it's due credit through media/television/gaming etc.

It is about time :)

AGoT Edition - Difference
It's pretty much a clean-up of the rules by including errata, a few new rules and some new artwork.
The first edition really shows it's age, as the system has needed quite a few changes.

Love the artwork. Hopefully by the time the Ice and Fire books; and all the Dunk and Egg anthologies are out we can have another 'Art of' Book :)

does this artist do some work on the LCG cards? the card for the Fox's Teeth for instance is one of the greatest. love this style.

Re: artist
Komarck did do some of the FFG cards early on, both for Game of Thrones and Call of Cthulhu. You can find his website at Komarck Art. The only characters he depicted for the GoT CCG (as it was then) were the Lannister family and Gregor Clegane, but... well, they're pretty definitive depictions!

However, "The Fox's Teeth" is by another excellent artist (and someone worth considering for future calendars, George!) Tomasz Jędruszek, aka Morano, who has done quite a lot of work for FFG.

Re: artist
thanks for the info - I love the styles of both this one and Tomasz Jędruszek. I connect them mentally due to the hazy realism that sparks my imagination.

Is this print available without the title graphics? I have seen a few depictions of this scene, but I have to say I have never seen Robert's rage toward Rhaegar illustrated in such a "striking" hammer,..er...manner...
Yeah, bad pun but fantastic artwork..

Nice pic, but there details which make it unlikely.

You're right ;) without his death the story wouldn't have been the same.. :) It's my love for Rhaegar who was speaking instead of me! Eheheh

We already need an "Art of Ice and Fire" book.
Yeah, thats it, we already need The Art of Ice and Fire book. It should include an heraldry section, with all the known heraldry.

Re: We already need an "Art of Ice and Fire" book.
There are two such books, called THE ART OF ICE AND FIRE (Vol 1 and 2) published by Fantasy Flight games :-)

If they have a heraldy section, I'm not sure.

Wish I could get some book and calendars!
I guess I'm not computer savvy enough to buy things yet---but would LOVE the chance to get books and calendars from GRRM. Oops--hubby just said no buying things online---so I guess it's moot. Any of this stuff going to be in a store in the southern US anytime soon?

I am a huge fan of Komarck, ever since he started work on Magic: the Gathering. All of his portraits are fantastic, and his work on backdrop pieces (such as this one) are eye-popping, as George noted. Glad to see his work on this! :)

A song of ice and fire update
Hello George, glad all things are going well for you. I'm especially happy Komarck is getting some support, his art is just amazing.

On a slightly different note, I'd like to use this post, on the off chance you will see it, to ask if there are any news or thoughts on writing a Song of Ice and Fire. I don't mean this as a criticism or pressure to you, I just appreciate reading any thoughts you offer on writing my favorite fantasy series of all time, and lately these thoughts of yours have been overshadowed by other things, or perhaps, understandably, your life lately revolves more around these other things than writing, but a post of any sort is always great.

Take care and may good things continue to happen!

I love this piece.

Robert in all his glory, when the horns on his head signaled his animal magnetism and power, instead of cuckoldry.

This piece is just so true to the mythology in ASOIAF, I can just imagine that 5 seconds later in this scene that all the rubies on Rhaegar's armor will be knocked off his armor and into the Trident.

Very cool.

That hammer had to hurt. Really fantastic design in this work. And the rage is captured just as it would have been.

Art/Costuming
Any chance Mr. Komarck's wonderful interprations of the characters can be sent to the HBO costuming department?

They could certainly benefit from his vision....
