Season Three

Yes, it's official.

HBO has ordered a third season of GAME OF THRONES.

Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.

I'll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title "Autumn Storms."

Full details can be found at a dozen other places on the web, so I won't rehash 'em here. Just wanted to pass along the news to my faithful readers.

We had a grab event tonight at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Now I'm tired. night, all.

Wow, took them all the way to the second episode this time. Why so long HBO?

Anyway, wonderful news!

So is A Storm of Swords going to be split into two seasons?

I asked this when the series was first announced, and you said I shouldn't get ahead of myself - it seems like a good time to re-ask; are they going to focus on half the characters, the way the book did, or will they intersperse more of what's happening, drawing material from the later book, to make things more linear?

Just wondering.

This sums up my feelings:

A day of kittens and ice cream for Sean. He deserves a break. LOL

Really excited! Technically we'll have 20 episodes of Storm of Swords - which will give us a lot more breathing room!

So the mishmashing of the books begins. Season 4 would probably be the remainder of ASOS and parts of AFFC and ADWD.

Have a pretty good idea what the 9th or 10th ep of Season 3 will entail. ;-)

Re: Hmm
Quiet, you: the Seven protect me from this spoilerish foofaraw! :-)

Congrats! Although I guess the downside of breaking Book 3 up into two seasons is that it potentially gives you an extra year before you'd have to release Book 6 to us ;)

I thought they might do a RW season-ender, sounds like I might be right! D:

Dear Mr. George R.R. Martin,

My name is Jo Maia, I'm from Brazil and I would like to congratulate you on your amazing and wonderful work. It was a long time that I did not read books so exciting and now my nights are filled with adventures.

I watched the first season and just loved it. But the season two is making me a little sad regarding the sex scenes. I'm no puritan (far from it), but I believe that the scenes from the brothel are graceless. They are completely unnecessary and displaced. Your books have so much to tell!
Could you please ask to the director/producer to reduce these scenes and fill the tv show with your stories??

Thanks for reading =)

the scenes from the brothel
Same here…

Unfortunately that’s the way the business go. The great majority of routine decision makers truly believe that (only) sex can sell goods. A pity though for that is why there is no room remaining for quite better stuff from the true source.

I'm so happy that my favorite book series of all time has been adapted into one of the highest quality television shows of all time. Wooooo!

Thank u HBO!!!!!!
***JUMPS up and down like khal drogo around the fire when he was making that go-to-war speech!!!!***

I've read all the books up to this point and hope all of them (and the two upcoming ones) are translated into TV:D

yay! do they/you write all the eps before filming so they can do the location shooting more easily and cheaply?
Apr. 11th, 2012 02:31 am (UTC)
Will the...uh...event be part of the third season (since it takes place a little later than halfway from what I remember)?
Apr. 11th, 2012 02:37 am (UTC)
Great news!
Apr. 11th, 2012 02:47 am (UTC)
Awesome news. Congratulations!!! I will admit I am worried that the over-the-top sex scenes that do nothing to move the story along (all scenes in the brothel) will begin to turn people off. They kind of cheapen a very rich story and amazing show. Just something I think about here and there. I feel the show is far above that sort of thing.

Congrats George! It isn't as if we are surprised by the news, but it's good news nonetheless!

This is the best news! Especially seeing as the seasons will stretch out a bit.. that's great.

Glad to hear it
That's great news! If this keeps up I guess that means you definitely have to finish Winds of Winter by 2016 :)

Aha! I knew that-certain-event-which-we-shall-not-speak-of would become a season finale.
