Season Three

Yes, it's official.

HBO has ordered a third season of GAME OF THRONES.

Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.

I'll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title "Autumn Storms."

Full details can be found at a dozen other places on the web, so I won't rehash 'em here. Just wanted to pass along the news to my faithful readers.

We had a grab event tonight at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Now I'm tired. night, all.

Wohoo! Congratulations!

That means you've got a three-season deadline, pal.

How do you do the math there? Storm looks like its going to be split up into 2 seasons. My guess is Feast and Dance will be mushed together (since they already are contemporaneous for the most part) and split up into multiple seasons. By my reckoning, he's got at least four, and probably five seasons before they need to get into Winds.

Of course...Winds itself may only be one or two seasons long, so if he takes the full five seasons to write Winds, then we're going to see that issue spring up for book 7.

As far as problems to have, though, "We need to get to work on season 8 of an HBO series" seems like a pretty awesome problem. Just saying. Let's be happy that there's a three, and go from there.

Made my day. My hats off to you, Martin. You've done an outstanding job and the books and the show are wonderful, each in their own way (I'll admit I favor the books). Congrats on all of your success!!

Autumn Storms? Does that mean what I'm thinking it does?

What are you thinking :p ? Because personally I don't think it will cover the RW at all.

Does this mean the Red Wedding will be in Season 3 near the end (a cliffhanger perhaps?) Or do we have to pray that Season 4 is picked up and signed?

Yay, congratulations! Much deserved! Looking forward to it already.

Season Three
The first half of 'A Storm of Swords', eh? I think I know where they'll be ending the season (if the showrunners have an ounce of sense, that is). And let me say that it'll make a hell of a season finale.

Re: Season Three
I'd end it on pigeon pie - at least complete the prophecy.

Really glad Book 3 is getting split, I couldn't have imagined the slash job of trying to fit that into 10 episodes. Especially if they are going to keep adding extra scenes like they have been so far in season 2.

Fantastic news! i was hoping you'd write the RW episode, but the title of the one you'll be doing is quite intriguing! i'm sure S3 will be just as epic as the second one has been so far! hope you're enjoing London and have a nice rest :)

Wow, took them all the way to the second episode this time. Why so long HBO?

Anyway, wonderful news!

So is A Storm of Swords going to be split into two seasons?

I asked this when the series was first announced, and you said I shouldn't get ahead of myself - it seems like a good time to re-ask; are they going to focus on half the characters, the way the book did, or will they intersperse more of what's happening, drawing material from the later book, to make things more linear?

Just wondering.

This sums up my feelings:

A day of kittens and ice cream for Sean. He deserves a break. LOL

Really excited! Technically we'll have 20 episodes of Storm of Swords - which will give us a lot more breathing room!
