Season Three

Yes, it's official.

HBO has ordered a third season of GAME OF THRONES.

Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.

I'll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title "Autumn Storms."

Full details can be found at a dozen other places on the web, so I won't rehash 'em here. Just wanted to pass along the news to my faithful readers.

We had a grab event tonight at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Now I'm tired. night, all.

You news could not possibly make us happier. My husband and I actually bought an HBO subscription ONLY because of your show. We have a tight budget right now and consider our "leisure expenditures" very carefully. We have appreciated HBO since we were children but until now, we couldn't justify the expense. I can honestly say that we would not have even considered it if it hadn't been for Game of Thrones.

My favorite genre to read is Fantasy, as is my husband's, and we discovered your work some years ago, now. I consider myself to be a pretty fair judge of the genre as it's been my favorite and made up the bulk of my reading since I was about 8 years old. I was hooked within pages of the first book in GOT and haven't "let it go" since.

We love your books, have introduced several people to them and were just discussing them with a fellow fan tonight. We are all on pins and needles waiting not only for your next book (hint hint HINT!) but for the rest of Season Two and everything that comes after. We're watching. In fact, we host several guests at our place to watch the show along with us on a weekly basis.

I hope you are able to pass this along. It has been my experience that HBO has some of the best written and best shot shows on cable. When it comes to GOT, though, you and the production team (correct terminology?)have completely outdone themselves (I know you have limited involvement in the show but they'd have nothing to work with without your masterful story). We have very few "complaints" about the casting (none really, aside from the eye color of a few characters) and we are seriously excited about most of it. I have to say that Danny in particular is absolutely captivating on screen, we couldn't ask for a better Imp or a better Baelish. This season we were delighted with Stannis and really, I can't say enough good things about the cast.

GOT is hands-down the best series I've ever read AND the best series I've ever watched. That's not something I have ever expected to be able to say. Do keep up the amazing work you do and know that you're touching people's lives in a profound way. Reading has always been my escape, with a good show as a close second and your stories dominate both for me right now. This is one stay-at-home-mom who looks forward to your books and your show on a daily basis. :) Thanks for your dedication to your fans and for your amazing attention to detail. I could go on but then I'd be all stalkerish so I'll stop. Just know you inspire many people and we all appreciate you from the bottoms of our hearts.

Does this then mean that a potential Season 4 would be the second half of A STORM OF SWORDS plus possibly part of A FEAST FOR CROWS or only the second half of STORM? I was surmising the other day that it would make more sense for TV viewers for one of the seasons to start out by mixing chapters from A FEAST FOR CROWS and A DANCE WITH DRAGONS in time sequential order. What do you think of that idea, George?

Great news for us, George! Well, we hope that HBO orders ALL seven seasons, 'cause it's not fair with the audience they stop in some way in the middle. We want ALL of them at HBO, dvd's and blu-rays! It's a collection and I already bought the first one on blu-ray. =)

P.S.: of course I have all books too... lol ;)

I am very glad. I am currently going through Storm of swords book 2, and I agree that they would not manage to cram both into 10 episodes.

Just finished Dance with Dragons about five minutes ago - as brilliant as the first four books and worth the wait (even though at times I despaired of it ever coming out)! thanks for persevering.

(I read book 1 in 1997, at the age of 14 - back in the days when I would just randomly pick up a book from the shelves at my school library - and have been enthralled ever since.)

and yes, great news about the TV series!

Great news about season 3
Great news Storm of Swords will be split in to 2 seasons, because it practically guarantees a fourth season.
Great news that you'll be writing an episode for it.

But any news on when the next book will be out? That's what I really want to know!

Hi George,
Keep up the good work!
I heard a rumour you read a Tyrion chapter at EasterCon. I wonder if you could find a place on your website for the chapters you read at the conventions because, I probably speak for most people when I say, I want to know as much about Winds of Winter as I can!
Hope your well

In an age of internet access and a lack of HBO, I am glad that me seeking out the most expensive blu-ray edition, I could find, that I may have contruibeted in some small way to the renewal.
While, I could easily be contented with the books (the best books I have ever read, and I have read a lot of books (and I knew it was my new favorite after the first Bran chapter of the first book)) I am glad to see the show is going on. Greatest story ever told! I have convinced five of my friends/family to read your works, and now they too know the pain of waiting for the next book (AH HAHAHAHHA!!!). Now I am off to go but more HBO/A Game of Thrones swag to do more of my small part.
