No News Is ... No News

Lately I've been getting a lot of emails asking me for the latest news about HBO and their prospective adaptation of A GAME OF THRONES.

I appreciate the interest, really, but there is no news. No good news. No bad news. No news of any sort. With much of Hollywood presently shut down because of the writer's strike, I can't even say when there will be news.

I try to keep my fans and readers updated on everything that's happening -- with this and with all my other projects -- here on my Not-A-Blog, and on the News page of my website. If there was any news worth reporting, you'd read it there. Honest.

Meantime, check out this YouTube video that was recently brought to my attention:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szQ-ZhVxZSU

No, it's not from HBO, it's not for an actual film. It's a labor of love that one of my readers put together, all unbeknownest to me, using clips from other films. It's really cool, however. I don't know about you guys, but I'd buy a ticket.

I dug it. Especially the part with the running wolves and the girl with the sword.

But... am I wrong or did the intro voice-over guy distinctly say Hyborea?

Well they better not back down, I subscribed to HBO solely on the news that they were producing a series based upon the series..

I'll ask for a refund if they do not :)
God I can’t wait to see these!

That's an awesome video! Thanks for recommending it - it's a good placebo while we wait for news concerning the actual tv series :-)

[info]pojypojy: Your icon is fantastic, but I don't want to snag it unless it's okay. Yes/no? (I'd credit [info]sparrow_wings of course.)

GRRM: After reading your not-a-blog and website for a while now, I'm still shocked that so many people email you just to poke and prod for updates. You don't live to serve us fankids or anything...

...and now I'm off to daydream about being five and having "Daily Story Time with George."

Well, HBO could do worse than using Lord of the Rings and Ladyhawke for inspiration. Or even Gladiator and King Arthur despite the issues I have with those. (A Roman villa north of the Hadrian's Wall? C'me on.)

Cool trailer.

Celts with catapults? That's what really blew their credibility.

King Arthur is a fun movie if you think of it as alternate-history fantasy fiction, and try to ignore any actual historical references.

You should hire that guy to help script the movies. At times I didn't even realize that I had seen all of those scenes before. When you can see a sequence like that, and only say "I've seen this" a few times, that speaks to a damn fine job of cutting and scene selection.

I recognize the scene with the red forest from HERO, but has anyone pinned down the shot of a guy with a sword in front of a single red-leafed tree, and the two horsemen on the mountain?

It is indeed a pretty cool video. Great idea, largely focusing on the landscape.

Thank you for keeping us posted and for passing along this fun teaser. The teaser underscores the conclusion that ASOIAF will be your legacy, having an impact comparable to the impact of some of the works that your fan borrowed from to make the video.

I'm a video editor and I've been thinking about doing something like this for a while now. I'm always too damn busy, but whenever Braveheart comes on tv, it makes me want to do it more. Why you ask? Because Tywin Lannister is in it (actually Patrick McGoohan, but COME ON! He's got the ice cold glare, the crimson and gold, even the friggin lion on his chest. All you need to do is shave him bald and there you have it).

Ice & Fire on HBO
Oh I'm so incredibly excited about the series, I can't wait. Does anyone know if there is a way to become involved, or who to talk to about it?
I'd give my left arm to be in SoIaF, even if it meant I could only star as a dismembered body. At least I could say I was a part of it.... :)

No, that's exactly what I was thinking. I always wonder what sort of person spends all that time on a project and can't bother to proofread.

That was some amazing editing.

However, I feel like the world's biggest dork because I recognized -every- scene that was cut from LOTR.

....I'm going to go watch Die Hard now, to make myself feel better about my perpetual nerditude.

(Also I feel bad, because I dragged my boyfriend to Golden Compass, having read the series several times (he's not yet read it), and had such high hopes for the movie, having not read any reviews. Yeah. I owe him several "man movies" for taking him to that horrible piece of film making. I was wretchedly disappointed in the whole thing, and if the same people are even remotely planning on doing Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass, I have no intent on going. I'll keep the books' wonderful imagery to my own mind, thanks and have a nice day.)

Sad that the real thing is stuck at the moment :'(

Anowyn-- I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be Arya, given the heart trees and direwolf pups :)

I totally appreciate the time and effort put into that trailer. Your choices of music and clips drew me in and intrigued me, even though I know the trailer is pieced together from other movies.

This old broad would buy a ticket too.

Good job, Castle Black.

Too bad we can't option the books on behalf of the fans who did the trailer. Or perhaps they could become aesthetic advisers when films are finally made.
